INTRODUCTION

     Riley Cho was twelve when his powers manifested. It started as a golden glow around his fingers while he was hiding under his covers late at night, trying to drown out the whispers of all the other kids in the orphanage. They only grew from there, until blasts of light would erupt from his hands whenever he was upset. The blasts would burn sometimes, and be so bright that they'd temporarily blind whoever was watching. This attracted the attention of very shady people who used mutants for their own personal gain. They promised him they would help him control his powers; all he had to do was help them take down people they claimed were bad.

Six years later, at age eighteen, he's working as a spy for men who illegally sell weapons to foreign countries, getting inside various companies that made and sold weapons and stealing whatever he could find. That was how he found himself as an intern at Stark Industries, where he came face-to-face with none other than the infamous Black Widow. Taking pity on him, Natasha Romanoff managed to get him out—taking out the gang that was forcing him to work for them with the help of Clint Barton in the process—and the next thing he knows, he's working for an agency called S.H.I.E.L.D. He has a debt to pay, after all, and a lot of bad things to make up for, and he figured actually taking down bad guys would do just that.

By the time he's twenty, Nick Fury is creating the Avengers, and Riley is a well-respected field agent. He can usually be found at the heels of either Black Widow or Hawkeye, and he finds his new life exciting, if a little lonely. He only has a few complaints—Hydra, robots, and aliens, to be specific—but he finds it rather easy to bite his complaints back. At least his life is never boring.

NOTE — This is the first of two books, and will follow three movies: The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Please be patient with updates. This book, as well as the sequel, will obviously have a lot of action scenes, and I struggle a lot with those—which is actually why it took me so long to write a fic for the MCU. But I figured part of the fun of writing is challenging myself, and this will certainly challenge me.
