Soulmate AU (First Words)

Will doesn't think he could possibly forget the day he saw the black ink bleed into his skin, shadowing his freckles gracefully as the delicate curves danced to form letters, words, to be permanently etched into his forearm for the rest of his life.

It looked perfect to Will, it truly did.

But the only slight issue was that he had no idea about the meaning behind the words.

The 10 year old William Solace only looked down, perplexed, trying to make sense of the foreign message, only to blame it on his dyslexia. When he first found out about the soulmark, he was desperately eager to know what his future soulmate would say upon laying eyes on him the first time. However, the language barrier made it difficult, only drawing out little Will's excitement a little longer.

Upon asking his mother for what the words on his arms meant, Naomi smiled slightly before producing her phone to make a quick translation of it. However, Will remembered seeing her green eyes widen in slight shock and a small smile just about tugging at the corner of her lips, and Will remembered how she never told her what the words meant, claiming it to be a surprise.

And now Will, aged 11 years since the revelations of his soulmark, sat there during the lecture that he should probably have be paying attention to, staring at the very same words scribed into his arm. Still as awed by it as all those years ago.

Che giorno è oggi? Cazzo con Nico giorno?

Will smiled down at it, even with the language barrier, he could effortlessly recite the words from memory from having staring so intently at it on a daily basis. He recalled on how long it took him until he actually understood what the soulmark read, he was around thirteen if Will remembered correctly. Anyone could of easily typed it up on a translator, but with the dyslexia that plagued the blonde, bright eyed child made it tremendously hard to even type up the letters in the correct order from the cursive writing on his arm.

It made him chuckle to himself, currently imagining what crazy scenarios would actually lead to such a greeting. An educated guess would indicate that Will would have certainly done something to piss his soulmate of, not everyone told Will, 'What's the date today? Fuck with Nico day?'. The slightly vulgar language almost made him understand why his mother hadn't immediately told him the translation, but it's not like Will minded, he'd never met anyone so forward upon first meetings.

Day dreaming about this Nico seemed to have made time fly by, the pre med students now flooding out the narrow exit doors of the lecture theatre. Will gathered his own items, an uncapped pen and a notebook that had no notes whatsoever during this lesson, and exited the room too.

Within the sea of heads that were eager to leave the doors of the uni, Will caught a glimpse at his best friend's greatly contrasting ginger and green hair standing bold against the crowd.

"Lou!" He called out amongst the chatter of the students, his voice just about grasping the attention of his bright friend, confirmed by her whipping her hair on some poor bloke who walked besides her as she looked back to determine who exactly called out her name. Will saw her smile, pointing towards the glass doors, signifying to meet her outside rather than trying to swim in the swamp of students.

"How'd your class go, Will?" Lou Ellen asked of him, as they met up with each other besides a great oak tree that stood tall on the fields of campus.

Will shrugged, "Same as always." Will enjoyed pre med, he really did. However, something in the back of his mind would always distract his attention and the blonde blamed it on nothing other than his ADHD.

"So just daydreaming about you soulmate?" Lou Ellen teased, the blonde failed at stifling an eye roll, even though his friend did assume absolutely correctly.

"Psshhh, no of course not," he replied sarcastically, there was no point of denying it anymore, Lou Ellen could always see straight through him as if Will was glass.

They walked to the coffee shop together, Lou ranting about an upcoming exam that she had not prepared for nor was planning to prepare for, yet still blamed the lecturer for not doing their job correctly. Will smiled at Lou's antics, it reminded him of his high school days, back when the stakes were so much lower and no where near as stressful as university life was. He appreciated Lou Ellen, she was a refreshing reminisce of how simple life was.

Lou excused herself of Will, claiming she was certain there was something wrong with her ponytail despite the countless times the blonde told her it looked fine. She just rolled her eyes, huffing 'guys' as she sauntered into the girls bathroom.

Will, being the great friend he is, already knew Lou's obnoxiously precise coffee order, so he waited in the semi short line without her company, simply just to save time. His blue eyes scanned the chalkboard menu overhead the barista that was currently taking orders who wasn't even attempting to even fake smile at the customers. Will understood the feeling, having worked as a waiter for a while and pretending to smile at every single customer just hoping for a few extra tips. But it wasn't really a problem for the blonde, he was often told that he was always smiling anyways.

When his turn arrived, he walked up to the seemingly angsty barista who suddenly seemed to perk up by Will's presence, no longer leaning on his elbows that rest upon the counter but instead straightening his back, letting a coy smile spread across his face. Will didn't want to admit how much he was effected by the simple, seemingly nonchalant action, but his heart fluttered none the less.

Will certainly did admire the barista, he was very easy on the eyes. Deep, coffee coloured eyes that looked bored prior were now just had a sort of sly edge. His smirk was, if Will was assuming correctly, was flirtatious and he wore it like a second skin. Will appreciated the inky black hair, styled as an undercut which revealed the prominence of his collar bone in which the blonde tried his best not to drool over. But all the effort put into this made Will forget the coffee order that brought him here in the first place.

The barista opened his mouth, lips shaped as he was about to say something, but before any words could escape, there was a sudden, loud crash that sounded from behind the barista. A latino looking teenager gave a nervous, sheepish smile, as he was the one that caused the kettle to thud on the ground, causing almost boiling water splashing everyone in the zone, included the raven haired barista.

He looked just about as fuming as the kettle. And Will was absolutely certain at this point he was about to witness the murder of the clumsy, curly haired teen.

"I'm sorry, N—"

"Che giorno è oggi? Cazzo con Nico giorno?!" The barista exclaimed in reflexive anger, eyes murderous causing the kettle boy to shrink. But that's not what Will focused on, he was more focused on what the Italian just said. And the fact that he understood.

"Wait, I actually understood you holy shit," Will half breathed half yelled, watching as the back of the barista tensed as soon as the blonde finished the sentence, he turned away from the Hispanic boy, once again providing his full attention to Will who only came in for a cup of coffee, and was apparently getting a soulmate as a side order with it too.

"You?" What Will presumed to be Nico sputtered, he saw his place fingers brush against his forearm, the exact same place where Will's soulmark lay, "Holy shit indeed."

The shock of the moment diffused from Will in no time, only to replaced with manic bliss all to be gather in one hell of a beaming grin. "So It's you huh? I can't say I'm disappointed, wanna grab some coffee with me?

"I... uh..." Nico froze, before regaining his senses, "Yes, definitely. Coffee. Not here though, somewhere else."

"Great," Will said, "FYI it's the 29th of August today."
