My First Kiss Went A Little Like This
AN:
Heads up, there's quite a bit of making out in this.
Everything was tame and peaceful just for a moment, but now? Now there are vivid, scarlet lights urgently flashing before his vision; sirens screeching in his ears. All ceremoniously for one, shitty question.
"So, Neeks," Will had started casually, "What was your first kiss like?"
Nico knows that this, right here, is dangerous territory, but it was also very, very inevitable. Not that the Italian has ever had a particular problem with it, but Will has a habit of just spewing out every single, iddy biddy detail of his personal life. Sure, it's reasonable cause they are best friends after all and Nico has no problem sharing his own personal matters with the blond, but it's just small things —romanticised things — that he'd just like to keep to himself.
Though (like the naturally kind hearted person he is) Will was extremely accepting of Nico's sexuality, that's about as far as Nico got about discussing his love life. And it's not because he doesn't trust the blond (because hell he's the only person he can put his full, absolute trust in) but it's more so to do with the fact there wasn't exactly anything about his romantic life to discuss.
In other words, his love life is nonexistent.
It's just embarrassing, really. He's seventeen years old and hasn't even had his first kiss yet. Though, initially, Nico never really understood what the whole big deal about kissing was. Like, what could possibly be so enticing about just a pair of lips gliding against each other? However, then he soon realised that it's because he didn't particularly fancy just kissing any random guy, but Will on the other hand, he's a totally different story.
The whole realisation of being in love with his best friend didn't hit him like a ton of bricks, it was more like just slowly sinking into quicksand, having no control over anything as he was just dragged down deeper. Because sure, Nico could have just left as soon as he felt himself starting to blush more in Will's presence, but Will sure as hell deserved a lot better than that sort of treatment.
So he hung around, and yep, he fell in love, which really isn't all that much of a shock. And as soon as he realised, he only then first felt the urge to just press his lips against the other's.
However, it's been four years since they've known each other, and still, no kiss. Which sure, Nico could live with that, because at least this way he can be close to Will without dragging him down with his own baggage.
Now, Nico just shrugs in a manner he hopes is nonchalant, "I dunno, normal I guess," lying between his teeth. But he knows he doesn't sell it when Will gives him the stink eye, evidently unconvinced.
"Oh come on, Neeks," the blond presses, "I've told you mine and it was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life, I doubt yours could be any worse."
I bet admitting that I haven't kissed anyone is a fuck lot more embarrassing.
"Wait, you've never kissed anybody?"
Fuck, did I just say that out loud?
Will laughs a little, "Yeah, yeah you did."
Nico can't will away the creep that crawls his neck, staining the prior pale skin with a healthy splash of crimson. He only further makes a fool out of himself and he blames his incapability to bite back his blush as the worst thing to have ever happened to him.
But he also just sighs because the cats already out of the bag now, "Yeah, I've never kissed anyone before."
Will takes one firm, surveying glance of Nico, sitting perched across him on his mattress, who froze a little at the sudden attention. The Italian's sure Will's going to burst out laughing, and, honestly, the sooner the better because he just wants to get the hurt over with — he's already humiliated himself enough.
However, Will just doesn't laugh, his eyebrows are just knitted as he takes a hard look of the Italian's face.
"How?" is all Will says, as if it was the most mind boggling question to ever stump mankind.
"What do you mean 'how', I just haven't," Nico states a little defensively because he wants to retain at least a little of his dignity.
"Yeah, I know, but just," the blond clearly struggles for the right words, whacky hand gestures flapping around which, admittedly, do mildly amuse the raven haired boy, "I mean just look at you!"
Nico splutters rather unflatteringly, and he thinks he's blushing so hard that his cheeks are probably smoking.
"Oh shit," Will cusses and Nico's a little satisfied with the tinge of red across his freckled complexion, "What I meant to say is that surely there's have been a lot of people that have shown interest in you."
Nico knows that Will's only saying that to make him feel better and he does appreciate the gesture — since he supposes it's better than being mocked because it sounds so genuine.
So, he just shrugs, "I guess not."
"Bullshit, you're just blind."
Nico rolls his eyes, "I think I'd realise if someone was into me."
"You'd think," Will echoes with a sharp edge to his tone that the Italian can't quite put his finger on.
There's only a few, small seconds of silence before Will's azure eyes are abruptly filled with brilliant light, as if he's figured out the solution to all the questions in the universe. They're wide and excited, and Nico can't stop himself from admiring the shimmering hue, reflecting the bluest sky on a perfect summer's day in spite of the stormy, grey clouds hovering just beyond the window.
"How about I teach you how to kiss?"
It's so casually said that Nico finds himself nodding before he even comprehended what the blond had even suggested. Of course, when he eventually does come to his senses, his entire face flushes, eyes wild and incredulous.
"You're joking?" The Italian asks in disbelief, no way Will, his best friend whom he's been pining after for years, had actually suggested that they kiss.
The way Will manages to keep his cool is a science beyond Nico's understanding, "Why not? I mean, you've never kissed anyone, and after this when you do have your first, proper kiss you won't be bad at it."
"But why would you want to kiss me?"
"It's what friends do."
Now Nico is no expert on relationships, but he knows enough to be pretty sure friends don't just randomly ask to kiss the other — and surely Will knows that too. So perhaps this is just a prank, or maybe a dream if he's lucky, but then there's a sudden switch on Will's face from confidence to concern that reminds him that this is all very much real.
"Obviously, you don't have to, you can say no, Neeks. And if you want you can just leave out through that door because I get I might have pushed the boundaries way too far—"
"—Why not?" Nico finds himself announcing before he can even think about what he's saying. Once it's out there, Will's eyes flash with something undeniably primal, but Nico just chooses to brush it off.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure."
Nico can trust Will enough to know that he's not pranking him. One thing that the Italian especially loved about the blond was his sensitivity, and how frustratingly selfless he is without even trying to be — as if putting others before himself was coded into his genes. Nico can be certain that his best friend would never do anything with the intention of hurting him, and with that in mind, the Italian agrees to the blond's proposal.
Will seems to pick up on the lack of hesitation from Nico, so he shuffles forward across the mattress to sit close and cross legged in front of the Italian. Nico's not sure why, but it all seems so childish, like it's something they should've done a long time ago.
"Okay, so how do you want to do this?" Will asks with a gentle smile, ever so slightly hinting at that irresistible dimple placed on the hollow of his left cheek bone. Nico eyes it just for a second before he glances back at the blue eyes, only then a little bit intimidated by the close proximity between the two.
The Italian chuckles breathily to try and keep himself composed, "You tell me, I've never done this before."
Will nods slowly, a soft smile curved against those lips as he looks upon Nico under heavy lidded eyes. He can feel a involuntary shiver run through him as Will's gentle, healer hands cup his jaw, tilting slightly skywards, their lips just barely a hairbreadth apart.
Then, there's a tender press against his mouth and Nico stiffens like a board before shooting his head over his shoulder, pulling away out of sheer reflex. It's embarrassing; utterly unreasonable. Nico's not at all sure why he abruptly pulled away, but he supposes it's something to do with the fact that he most certainly didn't expect that sudden, unanticipated spark exchange a thousand volts within that single split of a second, it just shocked him — a lot.
"I'm sorry!" Nico exclaims, burying his face in hands and tugging at the particularly long strands of hair that tease his forehead, "I'm sorry, that was just— I don't know..."
Will's laugh isn't teasing or derogatory, it's blissed and breathy, "Let's try that again, yeah?"
With a shaky nod, the blond once again tilts his face towards his own, and this time there is no long, charged draw, Will just presses his lips firmly upon Nico's. They slot together like jigsaw pieces, and Nico enjoys it for a few moments before Will glissades his lips over his own. It's then, that the Italian is left stumped on what to do with a little, barely audible "hmph," but then he catches a glimpse Will's closed lids and eyebrows softly furrowed with both concentration and emotion; only then does Nico shut his own eyes and let himself get carried away with the captivating sensation.
It's like drowning in overloaded sentiment, which not only reminds him to apply his own pressure into the sweet kiss but also to remember to breath through his nose. There's a certain grace to the way Will's lips move against his own, and Nico insistently tries to mimic the movements but it only causes their noses to clash together. He can feel Will grinning when it happens, that jerk, but still Nico doesn't pull away.
He only pulls away when he gasps at something dart out, swiping across his bottom lip with a flash.
Promptly, Nico hides his face in the crook of Will's neck, with the hope that he can perhaps hide there forever because he'll never be able to look at Will as just a friend ever again. (Still, that doesn't stop him from inconspicuously inhaling the scent that lulls him.)
"Where'd you go?" Will asks lightly, trailing warm hands up and down his spine in an overly intimate gesture. It urges a wave of goosebumps wash over him refreshingly. It makes him shiver.
Nico mumbles against Will's neck because he's not ready to face the outside world just yet, "I dunno what I'm doing."
He's sure that it come out as inaudible gibberish, but Will seems to understand regardless.
Nico can feel the vibrations of a smooth chuckle against his chest. The musical sound, the familiar scent, the embracing sensations, it makes Nico wish he can just stay there forever.
"That's alright, you're doing great," Will praises, "Come back up here."
Slowly, Nico faces the blond once more, but there's something guarded about his expression, he's regretting this.
Though Nico doesn't have time to question it since before he knows it, there's a soft palm placed on the back of his neck, drawing him in for yet another kiss. "Just follow my lead," the blond murmurs between them before really kissing him.
The others exchanged something innocent and sweet, something to be drawn out and savoured. However, this time the kiss is accompanied with a scorch that increases the intensity by a tenfold, and this time Nico parts his lips invitingly at Will's prying tongue.
It's also where it gets a little sloppy, since though Will is a fantastic kisser (well, as far as his own experience let's him think) he's still very new to this. Their teeth clash an awful lot when Nico attempts to match the languid movements, and Nico finds himself cringing every time. However, each time it's recovered with Will's skilful tact, and the Italian decides, for the better, to just submit a little and let Will take the higher ground.
And it pays off well, since Nico finds himself emitting a little, unrestraint moan when Will deepens the kiss. It must of triggered something wild with the blond though, because before Nico knows it he's being pulled into Will's lap, his own calves straddling across him. There's something possessive about the way the blond's calloused hands grasp firmly onto each side of his hip bone, Nico can't help but feel a little lightheaded and overwhelmed.
Nico doesn't snap away this time, he reverently parts the kiss with a drag of Will's lip between his teeth.
"I think that's enough for one night," Nico says with a tone both shy and breathless, before realising where he's perched and scrambling off Will's legs.
Nico half expects Will to roll his eyes at him, but when he glances at the blond he staring right back at him with fondness that floods through Nico's heart. Despite his bitten, swollen lips or healthily flushed cheeks, he still stares upon him with an inane adoration, and Nico really can't understand why.
"Yeah, whatever you're comfortable with, Neeks," Will sounds reverently; with a gentle tug of a smile that refuses to leave the corner of his lips, "I'm glad you stopped me if you were starting to feel uncomfortable."
"No! No! It's not that— I mean..." Nico scrambles for the right words, but sighs, "I mean, it just seems a little too extreme for just a pair of best friends to be doing."
This time, Will does rolls his eyes, "I'm pretty sure best friends don't make out like we just did."
"But you said that's what friends are for!" Nico splutters incredulously, blushing as he burns his gaze into the mattress.
"Come on, Neeks, I know you're not that dense. Though maybe you are, I've liked you forever and you've never seemed to notice."
Nico's head snaps up so fast it threatens to break his neck, "You what?!" He exclaims a lot louder than he anticipated.
"Oh, whatever happened to Mr 'I-Think-I'd-Realise-If-Someone-Was-Into-Me?'" Will snarks teasingly, obviously soaring off Nico's dishevelled self.
"I didn't ever think that you'd be into me!" Nico croaks at an octave two times higher than usual.
Will frowns a little, "What does that mean?"
"It means that you're Will Solace, all hot and smart and considerate and all that shit," the Italian flusters, attempting to explain in the most rational way he can muster, "And I'm just Nico."
"You're not 'Just Nico,'" Will replies with a much more fierce bite than the raven haired boy anticipated, "You're amazing, okay? You're beautiful and broody and I love it. Don't you dare think as yourself as 'Just Nico,' because you really are so much more than that."
It's fair to say Nico's speechless, lips trembling with a watery smile.
But Will has one more thing to say, "And you're also my boyfriend from now on."
He can't hold it back, he bursts into a fit of laughter, pushing Will with a playful nudge, "You're a fucking dork, you know that right?" He wheezes between breathes.
"So is that a yes?" Will asks, an unnecessarily hopeful tone woven into his voice.
"Yes," Nico answers with a grin, "I'll be your boyfriend, you dork."
AN:
It actually pains me sometimes to make them so oblivious to each others very obvious attractions. In my head I'm like, 'Just kiss already!' But then I realise I actually have the power to do that.
