It was stunning. The way the scalpel glided down the man's dark skin, a line of crimson in its wake. The precision of the slice made the tips of Iwaizumi's fingers tingle in excitement as his green eyes eagerly followed the hands of a true professional at work. Someone who clearly had years of experience tucked under his belt lightly placed his scalpel before he grabbed the appropriate tool to begin cutting through the patient's exposed sternum. Iwaizumi brought his hand up to his mouth, his fingers fiddled with his bottom lip while he looked on, watching this fluffy brunette man casually humming along to a Somei Satoh composition while the nurses kept his line of vision clear or moved around the next tools he would need. With each movement of his hands that didn't dare tremble, Oikawa gently tapped his foot and nodded his head along with each note the music echoed in the OR.

"With the way you're staring at Ass-face down there, it would seem like you're falling in love with him," Makki sighed from behind Iwaizumi.

Iwaizumi's face flushed red as he snapped out of his trance. He had been dragged into the little observation room above Oikawa's OR with only glass separating the two rooms. At first he hated the idea of being stuck in a room for a few hours watching Shitty-kawa perform a basic surgery but the more he watched the more he lost himself in the neverending march of time. He wanted to stand there for years, decades, hell even centuries just to learn how Oikawa was able to do his work without a single second of hesitation.

Iwaizumi looked over his shoulder at the sandy-haired man who was slumped down in his chair near the glass casually balancing a pen on the tip of his nose. "I'm not into self-centered pricks like him..." He grumbled before he slowly crossed his arms over his chest and continued with an earnest tone, "I was just awestruck by the way he moves so fluidly. It's quite beautiful, really."

Makki smirked as he gestured to the nurses and other doctors standing in the room, "Careful what you say there, his entire fanclub is here watching him perform!" He snickered.

Iwaizumi felt himself shrivel up into his lab coat as the glares from the female workers bore deep into his soul like thousands of daggers. 'Jesus, I knew the guys were conventionally attractive but to have a damn fanclub full of women in their late twenties is a bit much!' Iwaizumi shuffled over to the empty seat next to Makki and shrunk into it hoping to hide from the women's looks of disapproval. Simply insulting a man didn't warrant this hostile attention he was receiving.

"Sheesh," Iwaizumi turned his body slightly to the left to hide behind Makki, "You'd think I'd just murdered him."

"To them," Makki lifted the pen from his nose and pointed it towards the ladies, "You basically did. He's got a reputation around here you know. For one, he is the most attractive man in the hospital," He scoffed slightly, "and number two, he tries his best to outshine every other surgeon. Him forcing you sit here and watch him is a challenge to you so make sure you provide him with suitable competition. He's quite competitive. I can only imagine what he is like in bed!" The thin browed man snickered in amusement.

Iwaizumi rolled his eyes. So this was simply a way to show off his skills to Iwaizumi? Iwaizumi felt his nose scrunch up as he watched Oikawa work his magic on his patient. "He thinks his job is a game?" He spoke, "That's a bit inappropriate, is it not?"

"Oh no, don't misconstrue my words Iwaizumi," Makki began to wave his black pen around in the air as he raised his other hand up and mimicked a conductor as the song hit its crescendo, "Tooru takes great pride in his job and would nevver put a person's life at risk over something as stupid as self importance, he just likes the feeling of having to improve his techniques and grow as a surgeon. After all without a need to evolve, humanity would still be apes banging against their chest for a woman to notice them, wouldn't we?"

"Why the hell are you bringing up apes?"

"Why, such a vulgar young man!" Makki gasped dramatically as he relaxed his hands. His brown eyes peered over at Iwaizumi as a mischievous look came over his face, "You are a neurosurgeon, you're smart enough to understand what I'm saying." He winked.

Iwaizumi looked back down at the scene below him. The need to evolve? Perhaps he did understand what Makki was trying to say to him after all. Humans evolved into the species they are today due to the ever changing environment around them. When given fire, they learned to cook. When given clay, they built fine homes for their small family. When given sticks they made spears to hunt and provide food to their people. Without the environment giving these small opportunities to humanity in their early years, evolution occured. Sure there were other factors but competition to live and do better than the other humans helped this process. So was oikawa challenging Iwaizumi to become a better surgeon or was he asking Iwaizumi to give him the reason to strive towards much bigger goals and achievements that would lie ahead in his future?

Oikawa glanced up from his patient for only a moment but in that brief second his brown eyes met the green gaze that had been studying his only move. Those brown eyes didn't belong to the same, pompous young man Iwaizumi had been following around earlier that day. They belonged to a man of power. A man who knew that he was better than any normal professional, a man who would crush his competition without a second glance. He was a mighty wolf in that moment and Iwaizumi? He was a simple little runt who didn't belong near the OR Oikawa was in. That look was a challenge.

"You called him by his first name," Iwaizumi shifted his position so that he could lean his forearms against his thighs. "Are you two... how do I say this-"

Makki clamped his hands against his mouth as he tried to contain his laughter. His eyes were practically bulging out of his skull. "Jesus, hell no! I am not dating my childhood friend!"

Iwaizumi felt his cheeks warm up as he looked down at Oikawa putting a wire into the breastbone to close it up. "S-sorry I just thought that since you were calling him by his given name meant you two had a much deeper relationship than just friends."

Makki calmed down enough to wipe a tear from his eye and stuck his pen behind his ear before he crossed his legs, "I met him in middle school, we were both new to the school and had no friends so we stuck together and protected each other from bullies. He was pretty shy back then, he had nearly no social skills and his ears were always bright red whenever he was forced to speak during class but all the girls swooned for him, even the upperclassmen."

"He was shy? Oikawa was shy?" Iwaizumi asked in disbelief.

Makki nodded as he looked on at his friend finishing up the surgery below. "The idiot had been homeschooled all his life up to that point so he could barely hold a conversation with anyone outside of me. By the time we got into highschool though, he was a bit better but still timid."

"Weird."

"Eh, as you can tell with him; all change isn't bad. Sometimes it is better to embrace it rather than fight it. It will always happen eventually so why postpone the inevitable?" Makki slowly raised his hands high above his head and yawned.

Before Iwaizumi could crack a joke about the man's words, Oikawa turned towards the theatre and raised his blood soaked gloved index finger up in the air with a little wink, "Hope you enjoyed my little show Iwa-chan!" He then hid an arm behind his body and held his other out in front of him as he took a little bow. "I hope to watch you do a surgery one day if you wouldn't mind a little company!"

Iwaizumi heard the women nearby whispering about how cute Oikawa looked as he bowed, winked, and held up a little peace sign to them as he walked out to get out of his protective gear. "He sure does enjoy putting on a show, doesn't he?" Iwaizumi asked as he stood up.

"Oh, he thrives on the attention," Makki snickered as he rose up and began to walk out of the theatre.

Outside of the room stood Mattsun with two cups of coffee in hand. He handed one to Makki and began to drink from the other, "Sorry about not getting one for you, didn't know what you liked," He dipped his head slightly towards Iwaizumi apologetically as he brought his cup up to his lips and sipped on it.

Iwaizumi glanced down at his watch and brought his hand up to the back of his neck as he shook his head and gave the taller man an appreciative smile, "It's alright, I had one for lunch anyways but I have to go bring my daughter home since my shift is going to end here in a bit."

"Oh right," Mattsun glanced around awkwardly before he finally met Iwaizumi's eyes, "You know the nurses in your department offered to watch you daughter after the daycare closes if you ever have to stay late, right?"

Iwaizumi felt his smile fade away slightly, "What? I could never make them babysit my sachi, they don't get paid enough to handle patients and a little girl who requires so much attention!"

Makki rolled his eyes, "Oh please, the nurses wouldn't mind taking your daughter on a little lunch date in the cafeteria or even playing hangman with her at the reception desk so don't fret over the little things Iwazumi!" He smacked the back of Iwaizumi's head and stuck his tongue out a little bit.

Iwaizumi stumbled forward a little bit and rubbed the back of his head. He was grateful for the nurses in his department for wanting to do something they weren't required to do but it didn't feel right. Hopefully he never had to make those women take care of his child for a day and if they ever do then he would buy each of them the biggest chocolate asket he could find to show his appreciation. He thanked Makki for their little conversation from earlier and then exchanged emails with both men before he waved goodbye and began to head down towards the locker room before Oikawa had a chance to stop him. He found his way to his locker relatively easily and began to take his scrubs off. He slid his top off and held it in his hands as he stared down at it. Purple. The color of it was a royal purple that stood out against the white lab coat he would walk around the hospital with. This was Wakumi's favorite color. He remembered how she would always happily point out any article of clothing with the shade of purple as she smiled so radiantly. Her beauty was indescribable. Even the Goddesses above would be jealous of her.

Her long, black hair was always placed up in a bun to keep the locks of hair from covering her caramel eyes up. She had these cute little dimples on her cheeks from smiling so much and her thin brows would always curl a tiny bit when she did while her nose scrunched up ever so slightly. She never said a single negative thing. She was always speaking highly of Iwaizumi and Sachi to her coworkers and she would look for the good in everyone if she was given the choice. She was too good for this world and even the Gods knew this and made sure that she understood that as well.

"You're crying?" Oikawa's voice sounded in Iwaizumi's right ear. His hot breath tickled the bare skin on Iwaizumi's shoulder.

Iwaizumi instinctively flinched and took a step away from the absolute freak who had been standing so close to him just a second before. How the hell did he get this close to Iwaizumi without him even hearing the door open up? "W-What?" Iwaizumi stared bug-eyed at Oikawa as he held his top in his hands.

Oikawa neither smirked smugly nor did he wink at Iwaizumi as he stood a foot away from the shorter man with his lips parted and his brows turned upright in concern. He raised his hand up but quickly retracted it back into his pocket with an unreadable look on his face. "You're crying Iwaizumi, did something happen? Did I do something?" His voice quivered slightly as he lowered his gaze away from the half naked man standing before him.

Alright what the hell was wrong with this guy? One moment he was throwing up peace signs, winking, and making all the women swoon while he boosted his own ego and the next moment he acted as if he was the source of all of Iwaizumi's problems in life. What a total one-eighty turn. Iwaizumi raised a hand up to his eyes and tensed up when he felt a tear moisten the tip of his finger. He was actually crying? Enough of Oikawa, what the hell was wrong with Iwaizumi? Sure he was thinking about his late wife but he had done that so many times before and never cried so why was he crying now.

Using his scrub to wipe the tears off of his darker skin he shook his head and threw the top into his locker and grabbed his grey sweater from inside and slid it over his body. "You didn't do anything dumbass, I was just lost in thought is all, don't worry about me." he quickly stepped closer to his locker and switched his pants for his khakis and began to fix his belt around his waist and moved his personal belongings into his back pocket.

Oikawa had no sense of personal space in the slightest as he leaned against the locker next to Iwaizumi and looked at him quizzically, seeming relieved that it wasn't his fault that Iwaizumi was crying. "But are you okay?"

Iwaizumi's nose crinkled up and his brows knitted together in a tight frown, "Oh would you stop pestering me already? I have to get my daughter!" He slammed his locker shut and double checked his pockets for his stuff before he began to walk towards the exit leading to the front lobby.

"I'm just trying to be your friend!" Oikawa threw his hands up and followed Iwaizumi closely.

The two bickered back and forth about whether or not Iwaizumi would be okay or not as they walked towards the lobby. It wasn't long after they stepped out into the open space when Sachi ran across the lobby and threw herself into her father nearly knocking him over however, that really annoying brown eyed man standing behind Iwaizumi caught the two gently in his arms and braced himself by moving a foot back to hold himself up.

"Papa! How was work!" Sachi squealed as she buried her head in Iwaizumi's stomach while the shorter man shoved off of Oikawa so he could stand on his own.

Oikawa winced harshly as he braced himself up on the wall next to them, seeming to favor his right leg a little bit. Iwaizumi ignored his coworker as he turned his attention to his daughter. He knelt down on one knee and brushed Sachi's hair away from her face to reveal her giant, toothy grin that took up half her face with little dimples forming at the creases. "Papa had a good first day, he met tons of interesting people... but let's not talk about any of them. Right now, I want to know how your day was!"

Sachi peeked around Iwaizumi's shoulder as the man tried blocking Oikawa from her view. Just like that, Sachi no longer held any interest in speaking to her father but rather found herself totally intrigued by the man standing a few feet away from them. She nearly shoved her father over as she ran over to Oikawa and grabbed his hand in hers and beamed, "Are you royalty?" She asked in awe.

Oikawa looked down at her in confusion, "Pardon?"

"You're so handsome! You have to be a prince from a foreign land right? Like the one in Sato Hiroaki and Botan Haru's stories!" Sachi jumped up and down in excitement as she began to gush to Oikawa.

Iwaizumi glared at Oikawa as he watched the brunette slowly kneel down, wincing once more when he got settled in front of Iwaizumi's daughter. He grabbed her other hand and smiled happily at her. Iwaizumi was gonna kill this man. "You like Sato and Botan? What's your favorite story by them?" He asked in excitement.

Any murderous intent in Iwaizumi faded as he watched Oikawa become a little puppy as he and Sachi discussed a famous author together. If Oikawa had a tail he would be wagging it a mile a minute by now. Sachi pursed her lips deep in thought before she gave an answer to Oikawa, "I think I like 'Akane's Thread' the most but I love 'The Crowned Prince' just as much!"

"Ah, those two are so good. I like their more adult books like 'Rakuen'. I'll totally let you read it when you get older if you want," Oikawa tightened his grip on Sachi's hands as she squealed in joy.

"Yes, yes, yes!" She squeaked.

Iwaizumi sighed as he stood up slowly from where he had been kneeling down. "Sachi we need to go if you want to eat dinner at a decent time," He grumbled. He totally hated his daughter's attention being focused on Oikawa.

Sachi's bottom lip stuck out in a little pout, "But i wanna talk to the prince! He's so cool papa!" She whined and glared at Iwaizumi.

Iwaizumi was about to speak once again but Oikawa beat him to it. With a tone sweeter than honey, the young man gripped Sachi's hands gently in his and smiled, "Sachi-chan, you should really prioritize your own health over talking to me. There will always be other days when you can talk to me about Sato and Botan another time but you can't make up for the dinner you missed any other day," he slowly slid his hands away from hers and placed his left one on the top of her head. She was so small that his hand covered the entire top of her head and looked like she was wearing it as a hat.

Iwaizumi tried to hide the grin that tugged at the corners of his lips as he watched his daughter's pout fade. She lowered her head in sadness, "Can we talk tomorrow Mr. Prince?" She asked in a little mumble.

Oikawa nodded and held his pinky out to her, "I pinky promise you that I will make time to talk to you tomorrow little Sachi-chan. Also, call me Tooru if you want, Mr. Prince is a bit strange."

Sachi wrapped her tiny pinky around his with excitement nearly bouncing around on the ground they stood on, "Prince Tooru! Prince Tooru is going to be spending time with me tomorrow papa!" She twirled around and grabbed Iwaizumi's hand and pulled on it so that he would get closer. "Will you be joining us as well?" Her green eyes darted back and forth between the two men as she bit her bottom lip to hide all the joy she was feeling.

Iwaizumi looked down at Oikawa and met his eyes. They were caramel. Something inside of Iwaizumi yearned for more time to stare into those round, caramel eyes but Oikawa simply looked away from his green gazze and rubbed the back of his neck as he continued to kneel down in front of sachi. Iwaizumi didn't have a chance to think before the words slipped from his lips without warning, "Maybe, if I have time sweetie."

"Yes! My papa and Prince Tooru will talk to me tomorrow!"

"I-If i have time Sachi..."

Oikawa let out a little 'phhhf' sound as he held the back of his hand up to his lips to hide the tiny smile that was beginning to show. "Sounds like a deal but you have to head home fast before it gets too late Sachi-chan."

Iwaizumi took this as an invitation to dip out of the conversation and he was not about to pass it up. He turned away from the brunette man and gave Sachi's hand a tiny tug to let her know they were leaving. She gave Oikawa one last toothy grin as she spun around on her heels and took the lead, lugging Iwaizumi behind her as the man let out a little sigh of relief

"I hope you and Prince Tooru become friends," She looked over her shoulder and spoke with sincerity.

Iwaizumi frowned slightly as he tossed the idea around in his head for a moment. Oikawa wasn't all that bad, Sachi liked him so he had the stamp of approval from her already so he couldn't possibly be as annoying as Iwaizumi initially thought, right? He also had that strange look behind his gaze back in the operating room that still puzzled Iwaizumi. The man was one of many faces but it made Iwaizumi wonder which is his real one. Was it the pompous dumbass that flirted with women, the man who would challenge the gods at their own job if he had the chance, or was it the soft spoken and concerned young man he had seen in the locker room? Iwaizumi glanced over his shoulder as he walked through the front entrance with his daughter, the cold air from outside scraped against his cheeks and ears as he felt a shiver run down his spine. Oikawa was hoisting himself up from the floor using the wall to steady himself. When he put pressure onto his right leg however, Iwaizumi watched as Oikawa winced in pain but he quickly hid it behind a smile when he noticed the black-haired man staring at him in front of the entranceway. He lifted a hand and waved goodbye before turning around and walked away with a slight limp.

Who exactly was Oikawa Tooru? With time, maybe Iwaizumi would find the answer to that question but right now, His daughter was begging him for a fresh bowl of ramen and who was he to say no to that?
