Chapter 47

Here we were. All of us in King's Landing.

It was amazing to Tara that they all were now heading straight into the dragon pit. Theon and her would sit directly across from Cersei and Euron. They'd be able to look each other all right in the eye.

It filled Tara with a sense of dread. There had to be so many ways today could go. Most of the ones that came to her mind were not happy endings.

Tara walked alongside Theon. Little did she know, Theon was stewing in his brain. Yara was somewhere in this city, he thought. He just had to find some way to look at his Uncle and find out where. It seemed too impossible. He knew he would have to probably leave Yara again. He doubted that he would see her today, even though he wished he wasn't right.

"Why did they build it?" Missandei asked Jorah.

"Dragons don't understand the difference between what is theirs and what isn't." He started.

"Land, livestock, children... Letting them roam free around a city was a problem."

"I imagine it was a sad joke at the end."Tyrion added, "An entire arena, for a few sickly creatures smaller than dogs. But in the beginning, when it was home to Balerion the Dread, it must have been the most dangerous place in the world."

As Tyrion finished his sentence, the King's guard came into view.

"Maybe it still is." Davos remarked.

The two groups came to a halt in the middle of the diverging paths.

"Welcome my lords." It was Bronn who broke the silence. "Your friends arrived before you did."

He gestured over to Lady Brienne and Podrick. It was odd for Tara to see them again. It felt like forever ago.

"I've been sent to escort you all to the meeting." Bronn concluded. With a wave of his hand, the Kings guard separated leading them all down the path.

The Dothraki walked down first before everyone else followed behind. The Hound led up the back with the crate, the reason any of them were there.

The whole group continued down the path. It would only be another minute now.

Tara walked closer to Theon. Everyone around them was talking to each other, so she knew now would be an ok time to ask.

"How are you feeling?"

Theon took a minute to think. "I have no idea."

Tara nodded. "Me too."

It was another moment as they walked side by side. "I just wish we didn't have to see him."

"I know exactly how you feel." Theon responded.

That's when they finally reached the dragon's pit.

The broken walls of the coliseum towered above them. Tara just tried to imagine what it used to look like before. Even now when it was falling apart, it gave her a feeling of being small and powerless.

The Lannister banners hung on the crumbling rock. In the center of the coliseum were where they had set up the meeting. Red banners hung over the chairs, another sign of the Lannisters.

Tara and Theon stayed close together as everyone took their places near the chairs. No one sat, however, not yet.

Tara could feel even more uneasiness in the bottom of her stomach. Tara brought her thoughts onto herself. She hoped that this meeting wouldn't go wrong. The last thing she wanted was for anyone to die. However, she did have faith in Tyrion. That was what was keeping her going at the moment.

Tara reached down and held Theon's hand. It made him snap out of his own doubts. He looked down to her soft hand wrapped up in his own and felt some relief of calm.

They didn't say anything to each other, they only met eyes for a moment, but at the same time, they were both saying so much with just a look.

Theon was repeating his broken promise in his head. Even though he felt he had broken it times before, he was still trying to keep it. He knew that no matter what happened, he would protect her at any cost.

Finally, the Lannisters entered.

They had lots of men behind them but Tara kept her eyes locked on Cersei. For some reason, she couldn't look away. This is the woman she had heard so much about.

Theon was looking at Euron. Euron made that same grin as he walked past him. This time, Theon wouldn't let Euron get to him.

Everyone took their final places and sat in their chairs. The Hound didn't waste any time.

He walked straight towards the Mountain, "Remember me?"

"Yeah, you do." The Mountain said nothing, "You're even fucking uglier than I am now. What did they do to you?"

"Doesn't matter. That's not how it ends for you brother. You know who's coming for you."

"You've always known." With that the Hound walked away.

Now it was Cersei's turn. "Where is she?"

"She'll be here soon." Tyrion responded calmly.

"Didn't travel with you?"

"No."

Cersei seemed to grow an even angrier look onto her face but that's when the dragon's screeching filled the coliseum.

Most stood up in amazement as they watched Daenerys on her dragon. For most, this would be their first time seeing a real dragon. With a flap of his massive wings, a gust of wind and dirt fell onto everyone.

Drogon let out another roar as he bowed down to let Daenerys get off. Daenerys walked calmly towards everyone else as Drogon took off again into the skies. Tara was glad to be behind a queen such as Daenerys. She did feel better now that her dragons were watching this meeting too.

"We've been here for some time." Cersei said.

"My apologies."

Dany turned to Tyrion and gave him a slight nod. Tyrion stood to begin the meeting, "We are all facing a unique-"

"Theon!" Euron cut off Tyrion.

Tara felt her stomach drop. She held Theon's hand a little tighter. She knew how much Euron could have an effect on Theon. He reminded her all too much of Ramsay.

"I have your sister. If you don't submit to me here, now..."

"I'll kill her." He said it as if it gave joy to him.

Theon stayed calm. He refused to let Euron torment him. Even though on the inside, Theon was terribly afraid that his threats weren't empty.

"I think we ought to begin with larger concerns." Tyrion said.

"Then why are you talking?" Euron grinned, "You're the smallest concern here."

"Do you remember when we discussed dwarf jokes?" Tyrion turned to Theon.

"His wasn't even good." Theon said back. He was still keeping calm.

"He explained it at the end. Never explain it always ruins it." Tyrion said.

Euron got up from his seat, "We don't even let your kind live in the Iron Islands, you know?"

He leaned in towards Tyrion, "We kill you at birth. An act of mercy for the parents." It was obvious that Euron attempt at frightening Tyrion was not working.

"Perhaps you ought to sit down." Jaime was angry.

"Why?"

"Sit down or leave." It was Cersei's words that he listened to. He laughed to himself as he made his way back to his seat.

Theon stared down Euron. He hated him. He is just another Ramsay, he thought. Theon was sick of all the Ramsays in the world.

Finally, Tyrion could restart, "We are a group of people who do not like one another, as this recent demonstration has shown. We have suffered at each other's hands. We have lost people we love at each other's hands. If all we wanted was more of the same, there would be no need for this gathering. We are entirely capable of waging war against one another without ever meeting face to face."

"So instead we should settle our differences and live together in harmony for the rest of our days?" Cersei said sarcastically.

"We all know that will never happen."

"Then why are we here?"

Jon Snow stood from his chair and walked to the center, "This isn't about living in harmony. It's just about living."

"The same thing is coming for all us. A general you can't negotiate with. An army that doesn't leave corpses behind on the battlefield. Lord Tyrion tells me a million people live in this city. They are about to become a million more soldiers in the Army of the Dead." Jon spoke with great importance. He was well aware of the dangers and he didn't put them lightly.

"I imagine for most of them it would be an improvement." Cersei gave a slight smile. Tara felt a wave of anger rush over her. Cersei was talking about her own family.

Jon took a few steps toward her, "This is serious. I wouldn't be here if it weren't."

"I don't think it's serious at all. I think it's another bad joke." Cersei didn't waste a moment in her remarks, "If my brother Jaime has informed me correctly, you're asking me for a truce."

"Yes. That's all." Daenerys said.

Cersei looked over at Daenerys with the same disgust in her eyes that she always has, "That's all? Pull back my armies and stand down while you go on your monster hunt. Or while you solidify and expand your position. Hard for me to know which it is with my armies pulled back until you return and march on my capital with four times the men."

"Your capital will be safe until the northern threat is dealt with." Daenerys said back, "You have my word."

"The word of would be usurper." Cersei was getting angrier.

"There is no conversation that will erase the last 50 years. We have something to show you." Tyrion interrupted.

The hound carried the massive crate out in front of everyone. Tara was afraid herself to see what was inside. She knew what they spoke of was true but she still was yet to see it right in front of her.

The Hound bent on one knee and let the box fall to the stone ground. He took off the chains keeping it shut and started to slide the top off of it. Theon was focused on the box. He hadn't seen what lies past the wall yet either.

The hound took a moment before he kicked the box over. The wight came screeching out. Its blue eyes were filled with terror.

All of the Lannisters were terrified as it came running towards them. Right before it reached Cersei, the chain became taught. It tried to claw its way towards her but the hound yanked on its chain sending it onto the ground.

Once again the wight tried to run towards breathing flesh but the hound swiftly cut it in half. Still on the ground, the wight squirmed towards him. He proceeded to cut off its hand, the fingers still clawing even once it was detached.

It only ended when Jon came out with a torch, "We can destroy them by burning them." He lit the hand on fire. The smell of dead, burning flesh filled the air.

He dropped the burning limb onto the ground and pulled a dragonglass knife out of its sheath, "And we can destroy them with dragonglass."

"If we don't win this fight, then that is the fate of every person in the world." He gestured to the wight on the ground. It was still screeching and trying to crawl its way towards him.

Jon grabbed the wight and stabbed it right through the heart with dragonglass. Its screeching dissipated as it curled into itself. Finally, it laid lifeless on the stone.

"There is only one war that matters- The Great War." Jon didn't take his eyes off Cersei.

"And it is here."

"I didn't believe it until I saw them. I saw them all." Daenerys said.

"How many?" Jaime asked.

"A hundred thousand at least."

The fear inside Jaime was obvious. Tara felt it too. She had never seen anything so terrifying in her life.

Euron stood up and stayed focused on the dead wight. He grazed its withering body. "Can they swim?"

"No."

"Good." He stood back up from the wight, "I'm taking the Iron fleet back to the Iron Islands."

"What are you talking about?" Cersei questioned.

"I've been around the world. I've seen everything, things you couldn't imagine and this..."

"This is the only thing I've ever seen that terrifies me."

Euron walked over to Daenerys, "I'm going back to my island. You should go back to yours. When winter is over, we'll be the only ones left alive." With that, Euron left the dragon pit.

It was like Euron to be a coward, Theon thought. He was now an even bigger coward than Theon was. Theon just wanted to know where that left Yara.

"He's right to be afraid. And a coward to run." Cersei said, "If those things come for us, there will be no kingdoms to rule. Everything we have suffered will have been for nothing. Everything we lost will have been for nothing."

"The crown accepts your truce."

Tara and Then both felt relief. It was great that Cersei was now finally seeing the truth.

"Until the dead are defeated, they are the true enemy." Cersei started, "In return, the King in the North will extend this truce. He will remain in the north where he belongs. He will not take up arms against the Lannisters. He will not choose sides."

"Just the King in the North?" Daenerys asked, "Not me?"

Cersei almost let out a small laugh, "I would never ask it of you. You would never agree to it and if you did I would trust you even less than I do now. I ask it only of Ned Stark's son. I know Ned Stark's son will be true to his word."

Jon hesitated. He first looked to Davos before he turned to look at Daenerys. He was looking for a sign in their eyes.

"I am true to my word. Or I try to be." He hesitated again, "That is why I cannot give you what you ask. I cannot serve two queens. And I have already pledged myself to Queen Daenerys of House Targaryen."

Everyone looked to him. They were all wishing he hadn't said what he did. Tara had to admit that Jon had to be one of the most honorable men but at the same time he managed to be somehow idiotic. She couldn't decide if she agreed with what he just did.

"Then there is nothing left to discuss." Cersei stood angrily, "The dead will come north first, enjoy dealing with them. We will deal with whatever is left of you." She walked away briskly and all of her men followed behind her.

Lady Brienne went after Jaime but Tara could not hear what they were saying. Everyone else stood from their chairs. Tyrion was watching the Lannisters leave the coliseum. Tara knew he must be distraught. They were all so close.

"I wish you hadn't done that." Davos was the first to speak.

Daenerys stood and walked toward Jon, she was obviously upset.

"I'm glad to hear you bent the knee to our Queen, I would have advised it had you asked." Tyrion started, "But have you ever considered learning how to lie every now and then? Just a bit?"

Jon turned back toward Tyrion, "I'm not going to swear an oath I can't uphold. Talk about my father if you want, tell me that's the attitude that got him killed. But when enough people make false promises, words stop meaning anything. Then there are no more answers only better and better lies. And lies won't help us in this fight."

"That is indeed a problem. The more immediate problem is that were fucked." Tyrion was angry.

"Any ideas on how we might change that state of affairs?" Davos asked.

"Only one."

"Everyone stays here and I go talk to my sister."

Daenerys walked towards Tyrion, "I didn't come all this way to have my hand murdered."

"I don't want Cersei to murder me either. I could have stayed in my cell and saved a great deal of trouble."

"I did this." Jon interrupted, "I should go."

"She'll definitely murder you." Tyrion's temper was growing short with Jon, "I'll go see my sister alone. Or we all go home and we're right back where we started."

There was a moment before Daenerys gave him a small nod.

Now Tyrion was walking off to the actual dragon pit. This time, he was all by himself.
