Chapter 35

Theon and Tara found Tyrion and Daenerys in the council room. This time they wouldn't have Yara but Theon felt less intimidated because he wouldn't have to stand at the bottom of the stairs while they stood at the top.

Tyrion and Daenerys were sitting at a table. Tyrion had a cup of something alcoholic and Daenerys was sitting up straight in her chair. The commander of the unsullied, Grey Worm, and Missandei were there too. They stood off to the side.

Theon and Tara entered the room and bowed their heads to Daenerys. Everyone's eyes focused on the pair.

"What could we do for you?" Tyrion asked with sarcasm. He took a sip of his drink.

Theon looked up at Tyrion. He knew Tyrion disliked him as he definitely didn't try to hide it.

"What brings you here?" Daenerys said. She asked more sincerely than Tyrion.

"I know we are at a time of war, but I would like to ask of something." Theon started. He spoke calmly and smoothly.

"Go on." Daenerys said.

"I would like to have a wedding. It sounds ridiculous at a time like this, but I know there will be no time for marriage once we head to Westeros." Theon said. He hoped they would say yes.

"Maybe a wedding would be good luck before we left." Theon tried.

"Good luck?" Tyrion chuckled, "I have never seen luck come out of marriage."

Dany seemed to ignore Tyrion's remarks, "I'm guessing Tara here is the bride?"

"Yes. I meet her while I was a prisoner and she helped me escape." Theon replied.

Tara bowed her head to show respect. She could feel everyone's eyes on her now.

"We don't care about the particulars of the wedding because as you can see it is already unorthodox." Theon tried to convince them. Dany seemed to be in thought. She turned to look at Tyrion, almost for permission, and Tyrion answered by cheering to her slightly.

"A wedding sounds wonderful." She finally answered. Both Tara and Theon smiled at her positive response.

-

The wedding had become a celebration. Everyone was invited and there was a lot of food and drink. Apparently, the drinks had been Tyrion's doing.

Tara and Theon didn't really care who showed up or how they were to be married. They could have been married just the two of them and that would have been good with them. It was probably the most unorthodox wedding that anyone had been to. Tara and Theon didn't have any parents to be part of it, and there wasn't really a priest of any sort.

Since no one was really caring about tradition, Theon and Tara got ready together. They decided since they were both orphans that they would walk down together.

Tara stood on her toes as she helped straighten out Theon's clothes. Neither of them had been so dressed up in a very, very long time. Tara didn't think she had ever been dressed nicer.

Once she finished she went back down to her height. Theon smiled down at her.

"You look beautiful." Theon said. Tara blushed, "Thank you."

"And you look handsome." Tara laughed lightly.

Theon smiled, "Thank you."

Theon nodded, "Aren't you glad we don't have anyone who would say that we shouldn't be married?"

"What do you mean?" Tara asked.

"My father was a man of tradition." Theon started, "He's probably rolling in his grave while we walk down together and get married without a priest. And then I get married to a commoner for love."

"Agh, the worst. Marrying for love." Tara joked. Theon laughed.

"I didn't know you were funny." Theon said through his laughing.

"Just you wait. I'll get funnier." Tara smiled. Theon chuckled again. He leaned down and pecked her on the forehead. Then, Tara took his hand in hers and looked up at him. Theon gripped her hand back tightly.

"Are you ready?" Theon asked Tara this time. Tara nodded. Then they walked out the doors to their wedding.

The ceremony passed quickly. Theon didn't know but Yara had found a drowned man, a priest of the Drowned God, to marry them. Theon didn't really care either way. He had Tara and that's all he needed. At least maybe his father would be happier, he thought. Yara was up there too. Dany and Tyrion showed up too along with all their council.

Afterward, everyone was eating and drinking and laughing. All of the Iron born had shown up and they were definitely enjoying the free drinks and food. Tara and Theon didn't join in on the drinking like the Iron born. They sat next to each other off on the edge of the celebration eating some food. After a while, Tyrion found them.

He had a full cup in his hand as always. He walked up to them and started to speak, "Congratulations on your matrimony." Tyrion cheered to them, "May it be filled with good luck and good fortune." Sarcastic as always.

Theon and Tara cheered back with their cups that they only really took to be polite. After the cheer, there was definitely an awkward long pause.

"Can I ask, is there any speaking in your marriage?" Tyrion asked in his always slightly sarcastic tone.

"Yes, just not to you." Tara spoke up. Tyrion gave her a look and Tara gave him a smirk back.

"I like her." He said. Then, he sipped his drink and walked away.

Next Yara walked up to them. She sat with them for a moment talking about everything from the celebration to leaving for Westeros. They were happy to speak to her. Though, it wasn't long before her cup was empty.

"Well, I think I'm going to get back to drinking." Yara said. She stood up and Theon did too. She hugged Theon and spoke while they hug.

"I'm proud of you little brother. Thank you for coming back." She said to him as she patted him on the back. As they pulled apart, Theon and Yara made eye contact. Theon nodded to her before they completely backed away. Yara made her way over and hugged Tara too.

"Congratulations!" She said again before she departed back into the crowd.

"We should go find the Queen and say thanks."

They found her pretty easily and they both bowed their heads once they walked up to her.

"We came to say our thanks." Theon spoke up first.

"Of course." She said, "I think it is putting all the men in brighter spirits."

"And that should be good for when we sail for Westeros." Tara added.

"Indeed." She responded.

"Thank you again." Theon and Tara bowed their heads before they left.

Tara and Theon left early and went back to their room. Neither of them liked to drink and they weren't afraid to admit that the Ironborn were getting more drunk and less behaved. That would be Yara's job to make sure they didn't get out of control.

Once the door closed to their room, Theon came up behind Tara. He wrapped himself around her and kissed her neck. Tara giggled. Theon loved when she did that.

"You're funny." Theon said into her shoulder.

"What? Because I giggle?" Tara giggled more.

Theon kissed her one more time on her shoulder and then he started to tickle her.

"Don't you dare!" Tara started to squirm as he tickled her. He laughed as she couldn't contain herself.

"Stop it!" Tara laughed, "Stop it!" She barely got out any of it between her laughs.

Theon did finally stop. Tara was now facing him because of how much she tried to wiggle herself free. She pushed him away playfully. Theon laughed more. She hadn't heard him laugh so much before.

She tried to look angry, but a smile got past. That made Theon laugh more.

Theon walked up to her and put his hands on her face. "I'm sorry, but I didn't know you were so ticklish." Theon smirked. Tara tried to stay angry but it wasn't working. This time he kissed her on the lips. As they kissed deeply, Theon started to pull at her shirt.

Tara's attitude changed dramatically. Her lips became suddenly tense and she pulled away from him. She now stood away from him.

"What's wrong?" Theon's earlier playful attitude was now gone. Now, he was serious.

Tara shook her head and looked at the ground. Theon's protectiveness was now coming to him. He made a gentle move towards her.

"We don't have to." Theon said, "I'm sorry. I won't rush you, just," Theon put his hands on her arms caressingly, "Tell me what's wrong."

"I-" Tara still didn't look up, "I'm scared."

"That's okay." Theon said. He grazed her cheek, "Why are you scared?"

Tara looked up at him. His eyes were softer than ever before as he looked at her.

"My back." Tara said defeated.

Theon pulled her into a tight hug. At first, Tara didn't hug back, but then she let herself sink into his embrace.

"You don't need to worry about that with me." Theon said as he hugged her. He could hear her sniffle a little bit while he was wrapped around her.

Tara pulled away and wiped under her eyes. "I'm ashamed of who I am." Tara said, "Wasn't it embarrassing to marry a whore?"

Theon heart hurt once she said that. "That's not who you are." Theon said strongly. His gaze was intense now, "You are Tara and you are brave and kind and smart. That's who you are."

"The word that's on your back is what men like Ramsay want you to be." Theon said.

Tara couldn't believe how confident he was. She hadn't heard him speak with so much conviction and purpose possibly ever. It was the best way for her to hear it because then she knew he meant every word he said. Every day, Reek was becoming more and more of a fading dream and Theon Greyjoy was all that shined through.

"Okay?" Theon spoke more softly now as he wiped away a tear from her face. As he did so he couldn't help but think about when she did the same for him when he first met her. He could still remember the first gentle touch of her hand on his face if he thought about it. He could still remember the long nights in the Dreadfort as all he thought about was her tender touch.

Tara nodded in response. This time Tara hugged him. She was just glad that he was right.
