When we finished playing mythomagic, Will invited Lou Ellen and Cecil over.

They grinned when they came in. "So what are we going to do today?"

"I don't know, but I need sunshine! Let's go outside." Will said.

I hated going outside, but I wouldn't say that out loud. I know that would make Will want to stay inside with me, but I wanted him to be happy.

We headed outside.

"Okay. Now what do you guys want to play?"

"Truth or dare?" Cecil suggested.

"No!" The rest of us said.

"Fine, fine." Cecil grumbled.

"We could-"

But he never finished his sentence. My dad was walking out from the house. He had seen me.

"Nico, get inside." Will said slowly, stepping in front of me.

"Everyone has to come inside," I said, "not just me."

"Nico, he wouldn't hurt us, go inside."

"He would hurt you, come with me."

I looked to Cecil but he looked dead-serious.

"Guys, come in with me."

Slowly we walked back to the house.

My dad was in their yard now.

I opened the door and we all came inside. When everyone was in, I locked it.

"That was scary," Cecil said, still serious.

They were all pale, except for me.

But then I heard my dad yell from the other side of the door, "NICO COME OUT RIGHT NOW!"

Will grabbed my arm, keeping me from going anywhere.

"Don't do it, Nico." He said.

"Yeah, you can't go back over there." Cecil said.

"I know." I said quietly.

"NICO COME OUT RIGHT NOW AND YOUR FRIENDS WONT GET HURT!"
I tensed. Would he hurt them? Will tightened his grip on my arm.

"I CAN PICK THIS LOCK AND COME IN, OR YOU CAN COME OUT!"

Now I was freaking out. If he could pick the lock, he could hurt Will.

"IM COMING IN IN FIVE..."

I pulled, trying to get to the door.

"Nico, don't."

"I can't let you get hurt for me!"

"Don't do it!"

"FOUR...."

I had tears running down my face.

"THREE..."

"Let me go, Will!"

"TWO...."

"I'm not letting you get hurt, Nico!"

"ONE!" My dad bellowed.

It seemed like the world stopped. My dad picked the lock and burst in.
He saw Will holding me back and yelled, "YOU! ITS YOUR FAULT HE WOULDNT COME HOME!"

Will paled, and forced me behind him.

"Will, stop it!"

My dad grabbed Will and forced him against the wall. I tried to lunge at them, trying to save Will, but my dad swatted me away like a fly.

I landed across the room with a thud.

Will yelped, seeing that I was hurt.

Next Lou tried to help. She jumped onto my dad's back and bit the back of his head.

He screamed, and pushed her off. Then he shoved her and she fell. I knew she was probably bleeding.

"No! Stop it! Stop trying,to protect me!" I screamed, struggling to sit up.

Lou Ellen gave me a small, sad smile and tried to get back up.

While she was recovering Cecil started to fight.

He attacked my dad, clawing at his face and biting his arm. My dad stepped away from Will, and Will ran over to help me.

"Oh my gods, Nico! I am so sorry!"

"Help them, I'm fine." I said.

Now Cecil was thrown across the room and hit his head against the wall.

I tried to get up, to walk out with my dad. After a few tries, it worked. My dad strutted over but grabbed Will again instead of me.

"Maybe this will teach you not to run away." My dad said to me.

He punched Will.

I screamed, and ran over to Will, trying to protect him.

My dad punched him again.

"No! Stop! I-I'll go with you!"

My dad grinned.

"You may say something to your friend before you go."

I turned to Will, "Will, I have to go now." I said quietly. "I-I love you."

"No! Nico, don't go with him! Stay with me!"

"I can't."

Then my dad grabbed me and took me out the door.

Well, he almost took me out the door.

Lou Ellen recovered. She lunged at him from behind, knocking him down. She started clawing at his forehead, and it started bleeding.

The blood fell into his eyes and he couldn't see.

We had won.

He stumbled out the door without me, and I sank to my knees.

Lou Ellen came over to comfort me, since Cecil was unconscious and Will was extremely angry.

"It's okay, Nico. It's not your fault. We're fine." Lou said.

"Your not! You're not fine!" I said, sobbing.

"He almost took you, Nico! You almost were taken back over there!" Will yelled at me.

I looked up at him. His face was filled with anger and frustration.

I whimpered. Then I found the energy to stand up.

And I found the energy to run.

I ran outside and into the woods. This was the third time I had ran here. This time I was determined not to be found.

I ran and ran, a new sort of energy burning inside me.

This energy was here to protect everyone from harm. If I wasn't in Will's house, my dad wouldn't come and hurt them.

Soon I reached a lake.

But I didn't stop. I kept running. I ran to protect Lou ellen. And I ran to protect Cecil. And I ran to protect Will.

I didn't want any of them hurt.

So I ran. And I ran. And I didn't stop until the sun was setting.

I heard voices calling for me in the distance, but I ignored them. I was not going to be found.
