. . .
To say that you and Thor were on bad terms was an understatement. Since the day the team was formed, the two of you could never see eye to eye. It was impossible to agree on anything he said, and vice versa.
You preferred to strategize, formulate a plan, and make sure to minimize as much damage as possible. He believed in the opposite: running into battle, leaving destruction in his path. He was unruly, loud, and immature to you. You were a buzzkill, pompous and too strict for his liking. The two of you collided on how to handle missions daily, and more so on how to handle life in general. Today was one of those days.
"Thor," you snapped. You held your smashed laptop in your hand as you stomped towards him. "What did I tell you about summoning Mjolnir inside?"
Bruce took a sip of his coffee and muttered," Uh oh." He briskly walked out of the room, not wanting to get in the way of your wrath. If there was anyone else scarier than a pissed off Hulk, it was you.
Thor ignored you and mindlessly twirled Mjolnir, eyes focused on the T.V. Small clips of the morning mission flashed across the screen.
Bucky looked at you, and then to Thor who was sat beside him. "He's still not talking to you?"
Thor smiled, confirming Bucky's question.
You glared at Thor. "Bucky, tell me, who do you think did the right thing?"
The mission had started off well at first, with you and Thor only bickering once. But then, he decided that punching would longer work and simply throwing the Absorbing Man as far as he could would. And so the Absorbing Man became a bowling ball, with an abandoned building being the pin. The whole structure had become unstable and collapsed, nearly crushing passerby's. You aborted your orders of pursuing the Absorbing Man, who used the destruction as an escape, while Thor caught his breath, and instead threw up shields to protect the civilians who were about to become pancakes on the sidewalk.
Bucky scratched the back of his head nervously. "I'd rather not get involved." Your glare intensified, causing Bucky to shrink back and hold up both his hands. "Protecting the civs was a good call."
Thor dropped Mjolnir onto the floor, a large crack spread through Tony's beloved marble. "The mortals were in no danger! She let the enemy go!"
"You were buried under rubble! You didn't see some little kid almost get crushed by a slab of concrete twice his size!" you snapped. "You always do this, Thor! -"
"Well, not always," Bucky interrupted, hoping to defuse the situation. "Just sometimes he's reckless."
"Thank you for agreeing that Thor is reckless!"
Bucky gawked. "No - No, that's not what I mean."
You ignored Bucky and addressed the Asgardian, "You just charge into battle, not caring if someone around you gets hurt!"
Thor stood up abruptly. "I do care! You're just mad I did not follow your boring plan."
Bucky stood up too, slowly as if any sudden movement from him would cause you and Thor to attack him. "I have to train with Sam. Please. Don't wreck the compound."
You watched Bucky speed out the room, mildly amused. Then you pinched the bridge of your nose and sighed, trying to regain your composure. You looked up at Thor, and he eyed you uneasily, but you could tell he was tired of always arguing too. Both of you meant well, and that's what mattered. "I'm sorry -"
"It's about time you realized you're always in the wrong," he barked, and then frowned realizing he messed up.
You were going to bury the hatchet. You really were. Then he opened his mouth and it was as if another dozen hatchets appeared. " I'm sorry you're an incompetent fool," you hissed and marched out of the room.
You huffed and sped up your pace as you heard him call out for you and follow you.
"I'm the fool?" he asked in disbelief. "Maybe if we weren't constrained by your foolish battle plans -"
"Miss Y/N," the AI's voice cut through Thor's rant. "An unknown surge of energy has been detected in the Crucible. It appears to be... operational."
You froze in your tracks. "F.R.I.D.A.Y, are you sure? Run a diagnostics check."
Thor rolled his eyes. "Can your toys wait?"
You crossed your arms. "The Crucible isn't operational! I need to figure out what's causing this. You can complain on the way to my lab."
As you quickly navigated the halls of the compound, Thor followed behind like a toddler throwing a tantrum. F.R.I.D.A.Y kept updating you on various new levels of energy emitting from the Crucible, until the lights went out and bright blue blast of light came from your lab. You broke off into a run, shielding your eyes as you entered your lab. The light grew brighter and a shockwave shot through the room. You braced yourself for impact, but Thor shielded you with his body instead.
"Y/N, are you alright?" Thor asked as he helped you stand. He checked you for any injuries, eyes roaming your face worriedly.
Your lab was encased in thick black smoke. You surmised it was due to the Crucible malfunctioning. It was a bit hard to breathe, but manageable. You nodded. "I'm fine, what about you?"
Thor coughed, "Same as you."
You took a few steps towards your project. You had been working on the Crucible for a few years, but could never figure out the missing part, and you felt your heart sink at the potential of it being ruined now.
The smoke was still thick, but it started to thin out and that's when you noticed the figures in it. They came closer, and out stepped a man. Tall, blond, and very burly. His beard was caked with soot and he coughed and waved at the smoke, freezing until he spotted you. He took a large stride towards you, about to say something until Thor positioned himself between you and him, Mjolnir now in his hands.
"Stay back," Thor growled.
The man walked closer, and that's when you noticed his armor, much like Thor's but not quite. "Out of that way, Odinson."
A woman's voice called out from the smoke, "My love, please tell me you're not picking a fight with yourself?" The woman appeared next to the man. Her H/C hair was messy and stuck to her face, and her E/C eyes were tired as she took in the situation before her. "I know you're always looking for a worthy opponent, but yourself? That's going too far."
The man frowned. "He's in my way!"
You stepped out from behind Thor, ignoring his attempts to keep you safely away from the two strangers. You gazed at the woman in awe, and shock. She resembled you, save for a few extra wrinkles and greying hair, it was like staring into a mirror. As you put the puzzles together, you realized that the man was indeed Thor - an older version. One with a pretty rad beard. And the woman was you.
"Good news," the woman looked at you, "5 years from now, the Crucible works!" She frowned. "Bad news, I may have just broken it by traveling here." You stared at her, unsure what to say. "But with our two genius minds and the help of our very strong husbands, we can repair it!"
"Husbands?!" you squeaked.
Future Thor chuckled. "That got her attention."
The woman nodded. "Oh right, I forgot. We still hated each other at this time."
Thor sized up future him as he absently stroked the stubble on his chin. "So... You expect us to believe that the two of you, are future versions of Y/N and I?" He grinned. "And that we're married?"
Future Thor clapped Thor on the back. "Don't wait, boy. You're missing out on the love of your life."
You paced back and forth, anxiously. "Me? And Thor? No. This has to be a mistake!"
Future you studied you intensely. "I am amazed that my main concern is my marriage to Thor, instead of the fact that in 5 years time I will travel back in time to this moment."
You heard footsteps and soon the team was crashing into your lab, weapons drawn. Steve was mid shield throw at Future Thor until he looked at you and Thor, and then the future versions of you two, and dropped his shield.
The mask of Tony's suit lifted up. "What the hell am I looking at?"
Future you made her way to Tony. "Good, you're here. We need your help. You need your help. The future is... chaos." She ushered Tony out of the room, and beckoned for everyone else to follow her.
You heard Clint whisper, "Time travel is messed up."
Sam looked at you and then at Thor, and then at future Thor. "Who am I dating in the future?" He paused. "Never mind, I don't want to know."
Once the team was out of your lab, unwillingly trusting future you, who was explaining how one of the Avengers eventually betrays everyone and plunges the world into insanity, you were still reeling from the fact that you and Thor are married in the future.
Thor looked down at you and smiled.
"What?" you asked.
"Nothing, nothing. Just thinking if I should grow a beard now."
"It suits you," you chuckled. "C'mon, let's go join the others. I imagine there are many questions that need answers to."
Thor nodded and held out his hand, "After you, wife."
