Raelynn Thomas walked to the classroom that the after school detention was being held in.
She looked at the teacher in the room who directed her to the chairs behind tables.

"Pick a chair ms. Thomas. Though I have other things to do, I'm here with you for an hour." He said the hint of slight annoyance in his voice

Raelynn sat down and sighed.

"You know I wasn't the only person who skipped class today right Mr. Smith?" Raelynn spoke out. "Yes. But you were the only one who was caught. Now read a book or something just no phones." Mr. Smith said.

Raelynn then just sighed, pulling out a book from her bag.

"The Outsider, by Stephen King." Raelynn said in her thoughts, as she read the title. She had been reading it up to its 45th chapter.

After detention was over, she walked home slowly.

Her head down, knowing her parents would be upset. Pissed even.

"Where the hell were you?!" Her mother shouted, as Raelynn shut the door.

"I was in detention for skipping class." She Said.

"You What?!" Both her mother and father shouted in union.

"I'm sorry. I can expl-" Raelynn was cut off by her fathers hit on her right cheek.

"Go to your room. Now! And your phone is mine!" Her mother screamed.

Raelynn teared up rushing to her bedroom door, only to slam it shut to bawl into her knees.

Raelynn pushed the memory away as her foster father sang her to sleep. She smiled softly and fell asleep in his arms.

He smiled at his foster daughter gently. He loved her as his own.
