Chapter 5
Lenis rubbed her eyes as she heard her mother calling for breakfast, she rolled out of bed and shoved her light and fluffy clothes on. Once she got settled, she headed down the first floor, and she was going to go down a very long heap of stairs.
"UGHH," she groaned as she took her first step and than her second, and third, fourth, fifth, and it went on and on and on. Suddenly, she made to the bottom of the endless burgundy stairs and she saw her mother standing in front of a giant table. Her arms were crossed and from her facial expression, Lenis knew she wasn't happy.
"You're late!" Wren yelled as she plucked one of Lenis's feathers on her head. Lenis looked down at her feet noticing that she did do something wrong.
"You're a raptor Lenis, you are supposed to be fast, 20 seconds to get down the stairs is not FAST!" She exclaimed as Lenis pulled back her head in sadness. She heard a noise behind her and realized that everyone else was starting to get up too.
"But Mama, I-"
"No excuses!" Wren shouted as she pointed at the table. "Now go eat some food and get to work!" Wren yelled as Lenis shuffled to her seat by a big wooden table. It had each of their names carved into a certain seat; obviously that is where they had to sit each day.
Lenis sat down at her seat and saw that there wasn't any food on the table. She looked around and there wasn't any on the counters either.
"Mama," she called, "Where is the food?" she asked confused as she got out of her chair. Wren turned around and walked over to Lenis tiredly.
"You are thirteen years old now, you can go and hunt something for yourself. You are not a baby no more! Go fetch something in the yard, there's always deer and other stuff out there," Wren replied disappointed. She walked away to greet the others, and as Lenis left out back, she could hear her scowling at the others too.
I guess it's just the time of age, she thought as she crawled out into her backyard. She could smell something meaty, and it was fresh too. Lenis followed the fresh scent and saw a fawn all alone by a log. It had pure white speckles on it's light brown fur. She got a little closer thinking about eating it, but then she stopped; motionless on all fours.
Wait a minute, was I just thinking on eating that! I can't do such a thing, I need to help it, but than mama would get upset. I have to do it. Lenis thought to herself. She turned back to the fawn, she felt so sad on what she was about to do, but she won't be hungry anymore.
The fawn looked around helplessly as it watched for its mother to return, it crawled on top of a dark oak stump and started to fall asleep. As its head finally drooped down, Lenis sprawn. Her claws unsheathed as she tore into the fawns flesh. It cried and cried, so Lenis put an end to the horrible sound by biting its throat with her sharp teeth.
Lenis wiped her mouth and picked up the fawn by its back leg. She dragged its body back to the house and the grass was stained from where it was dragged. Lenis pulled the fawn up to the back and looked through the window slide door. She saw everyone coming back with some prey that they also caught.
None of the children actually knew that they were siblings, their mother thought that it would ruin their spare time telling them. Lenis opened the slide door and walked into the house. She quickly walked over to her seat next to Owen and Julia. Owen was starting to tear into some leftovers that he must have found in the garbage, and Julia was munching on some parts of a rabbit.
They greeted Lenis as she sat down and handled the fawn onto the table. Then she heard footsteps coming her way; of course, it had to be mama. She looked even more disappointed than before.
