Epilogue

5 Years Later

            I spent four years on the ranch that Carlos took me to. Then he helped me get a small house just an hour from the ranch. Every year, he would come visit me and bring pictures and updated about my friends and family. As much as I looked forward to seeing how they were, it pained me because I was no longer a part of their lives.

            Jake married a girl that came through town and decided to stay. They had three children; a girl that he named after me and a son, Spark Plug had his own little private security company to keep him busy but so far, he still hasn’t married; Powder got married. Powder had three sons and they were expecting another child last year, Flint was still looking. He would occasninally take a job with Spark Plug.

            As for my parents, Carlos said that they never got over my ‘death’. Though, he said, they seemed to start moving in the direction after my niece was born. I sigh and pull the cake out of the oven and glance at the clock. He would be here in a few minutes. I was proud of Carlos. He slowly got out of the shady business he had, and with the bounty from ‘killing’ me, he did open his clinic and orphanage.

            He also sold the knock out agent he used on me to the military, on the condition that they named it “Ace’s Last Shot”. They agreed and he became a billionaire. My doorbell rings and I all but run to the front door. Throwing it open, I smile when I see Carlos. I give him a hug, but I can tell something was wrong when he didn’t hug me back.

            “Carlos, what is it?”

            “It’s your mom Tony. She’s dead. The doctors said it was a heart attack.” He holds me as I break down and cry. I had lost my mom and I hadn’t even gotten to say goodbye. He picked me up and carried me to the couch. “It’ll be alright mi amor.”

            “Don’t leave me Carlos, please. I want you to stay.” I whisper. He places a kiss on my head and holds me tighter. “I won’t ever leave you again Ace. I’m here to stay this time.” He holds me in his arms as I cry and then fall asleep. I knew that Carlos wouldn’t leave because he always kept his promises. The news about my mom’s death broke me, but I would carry on. It was ingrained in me because I was a Seal and we never gave up.
