Chapter 1 | Ring with no Return
Please don't leave me
Please don't leave me
I'm always saying how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please, don't leave me...

******ALEXIS' P.O.V.******
EXACTLY ONE MONTH, SEVEN DAYS, TWENTY-THREE MINUTES, AND FIVE SECONDS AGO, was all it took for my life to go from rainbows, unicorns, and happy faces to miserable teardrops, storm clouds, and boxes upon boxes of tissues!
I had a great life before my mom decided to destroy it with a nuclear missile called "BYRAN" and his two spawns from hell! Turns out what I thought would last forever, would really only last till the end of summer. That's when my mom announced over 'Tuesday's Taco Fiesta Night', that my dad and she had filed for a divorce.
Yeah, you heard that right! Right before my senior year of high school she decided to ruin it by divorcing my dad and I never saw it coming!
I cried for about a week. When I finally pulled myself together and tried to find out why this was all happening in the first place, I was left with nothing more than a 'make sure to come visit me' speech from my dad. It sounded like he'd snatched it from youtube or one of those 'how to' books.
Dad told me he'd decided to move to New York for a so called "better work opportunity." And of all places... New York! That was exactly 3470 miles away from where I'm going to be living next year.
That's right, they were expecting me to go pack my bags and move. I'd have to leave all my friends behind! Like all of this hasn't been hard enough on me. They just had to go and make things worse!
As far as I and everyone else knew, my parents were the most loving parent's around.
This whole divorce thing had to be some kind of joke right!
Right?
But as it turns out, mom negotiated with dad that I would be staying with him for the summer one last time before I was taken away to the land of tea and biscuits. Goodbye Boston and hello London?
It took me some time to break it to my friends about the divorce. But it took only seconds for me to announce the one-way trip to London friggin England! It was only logical that I had to leave my friends and make new ones in London. But I knew there was no way I'd be able to put up with any of this for long. I told everyone I'd be back soon or at least I'd try to make it back before graduation.
After all, my dad did say I could move back with him if I didn't like it there, but with one condition; that I stay at least four months with my mom before deciding. I knew I had to at least try...
After all how bad could things be?
Sure enough, I got off the plane and saw my mother, Isabelle. She stepped out of one of those fancy black cars that had a 'personal driver', followed by what had to be my soon to be stepdad.
To my surprise, mom hadn't changed one bit....
Her long, dark brown hair glistened in the sunlight making it even more noticeable that she had recently gotten highlights. Her once pale skin was now more of a light honey colour, the same colour one might get if they were to spend a few weeks tanning on a beach.
Who was I kidding? My own mom looked completely unrecognizable to me.
Since when did mom shop at Saks Fifth Avenue, wear big flashy jewelry, and carry around Louis Vuitton bags for crying out loud?
I was too scared to further examine the high heels she had on once I caught sight of the red soles.
Seriously? Christian Louboutin's! I was trying so hard not to lose it. This is not my mother! What on gods earth happened to her?
As long as I could remember her definition of "fashionable" was her old, dark washed skinny jeans paired with that over worn soft, cotton grey tank top of hers. Then she'd throw on her favourite white and navy blue striped plaid shirt, rolling up the long sleeves just before her elbows. If dad and I were lucky she'd throw on a pair of black heels and a necklace, but the chances of that happening were usually next to none!
Mom never really had a passion for fashion. It was more like "a passion for comfort." She would say smiling at me and batting her brown eyes.
It was then that I noticed my mom waving and smiling at me like a complete fool. I smiled back and waved at Bryan awkwardly. Looks like my mom traded her mini-van for a Lincoln. I was just about to run into moms arms when something caught my eye.
OH... HELL NO... YOU... HAVE GOT...TO BE... KIDDING ME.
I watched in horror as 'Cinderella' did when her step sister's hopped out of the carriage.
Their dyed blond hair was perfectly straight and their spray tans were... well... orange! They looked identical to the bitchy girls in 'Mean Girls' with the attitude of Regina George herself and with the IQ of the movie 'Dumb and Dumber'! Only in their case, they weren't funny at all! These two were just spoiled brats!
Before I knew it, I found myself being completely judged by Amber and Tiffany as I saw them looking me up and down with disgusted faces.
The second I saw bitch one and bitch two.., I almost turned right around to get back on the plane to go back to Boston no matter the cost! Hell, I was even up for swimming... even though that's not really possible... But I knew that wouldn't be fair to my mother who hadn't seen me in months. So, instead of doing what my gut was 'screaming' and 'yelling' at me to do, I sucked it up and bit my tongue.
It took only one second for me to know I was going to hate my soon to be step devils.
"Hello, I'm Alexis," I smiled, trying to be nice.
"Cool chav. Amber chuckled before turning back to her sister and continued their conversation.
"Anyhow what was I saying? Oh yeah! So Julia said that Kyle is going to be attending school this year and I nearly died!" Tiffany beamed and then looked at me with a 'what are you still doing here' face before walking away and getting back in the car.
"Nice to meet you too, mate," I said slowly, mocking her sarcastically to myself once they got in the car. And what does chav even mean? I'm assuming it's not a compliment. I let out one last sigh before grabbing my suitcase and wheeling it to the car.
Amber was no angel. She was the type of girl that has an ice cold heart, and claws instead of nails. She was the younger of the two siblings but looked the oldest. As for Tiffany... well, she was a mystery to us all. The girl was pure evil! I was still trying to find out where she was hiding those horns of hers, along with that tail and spear.
"Here, let me help you with that!" Byran, my mom's fiancé said as he ran over to help me with my bags.
This had been the first time I'd actually seen Byran in person and he was much taller than he looked online.
When I first found out mom was getting married I ran to my computer and spent the whole night stalking his Facebook. Now seeing him in front of me, he looked to be five-ten or something. He wasn't as tall as dad who was a whopping six foot two, but he was close.
Byran had short, shaggy, light brown hair that was slicked back and soft blue eyes. His face was very chiseled and he had a bit of stubble. He wasn't bad looking I shamefully admitted to myself. He was a bit older than dad that's for sure! Maybe in his forties or something. He dressed much like dad would with his light gray dress pants, a matching black fitted suit, and black button up dress shirt. The guy was filthy rich and had no problem showing it. His clothes screamed designer.
"Thanks..." I said awkwardly. I was still startled by what I had just witnessed earlier.
"ALEXIS!" I heard my mother yell joyfully as she smothered me in a hug, telling me how much she'd missed me and never wanted me to leave her again. I don't think she had a clue that I was not in the mood for this 'family reunion'. Judging by the fact I didn't even hug her back, I thought I'd made it pretty obvious.
"We are so happy you decided to come stay with us for the year Alexis! I'm looking forward to us finally getting to know one another. Tiffany and Amber will be like your sisters in no time, I can just see it now, the three of you will be best friends!" Byran beamed as he put his arm around my mother's waist and pulled her close.
Yeah, you keep wishing Byran! Someone help me...I think I'm going to be sick.
"Oh yeah!" I smiled sarcastically with the fakest grin ever. Just like the one I gave to my grandmother when she asked if I liked that hideous shirt she got me last year that said: "I'm a Belieber!"
One big, happy family my ass! This is going to be hell! Why on Earth did I agree to this?
"Isabelle honey? Why don't you and Alexis go for lunch and I'll take her stuff home? I'm sure you two have plenty of catching up to do." Byran offered with a smile as he handed my mother some money. "It's on me, go have fun girl's."
"Wow; jeez, Thank you, but you really don't have to do that". I broke in, but he just shook his head and smiled. "Really you don't need to do this. I'm good with microwave pizza". I urged but my mom rolled her eye's.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it. I'll see you two later. I've made reservations at your mother's favorite restaurant. She said you would love it just as much as she does". He chuckled, before planting a kiss on my mother's cheek and asking his driver to put my bags in the trunk of their fancy looking black car.
"We will meet you at home, love." My mom smiled as she kissed Byran and the sight of that made me feel just as awkward and sick to my stomach.
I had been third wheeled by my friends and their boyfriends back in Boston multiple times. Only this time it was my MOM I was third-wheeling!
I'm telling you, it can't get any worse than that...
We waved as they drove away. When my mom turned to me, my face went from trying to pretend everything was completely fine to mad, disappointed, and upset... Really, really upset!
How could she not tell me what was in store for me? At the most, she could have warned me!
This was like one of those 'Beverly Hills' family with the white picket fence! The kind my friend Megan dreamed about living in. News flash, you can't marry a house!
I was definitely not in Kansas anymore!
If I was in Kansas... I would have used those's red shoes ages ago! But a part of me thought things might actually work out. OH BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!
