Staying Over

The group of friends got through their finals with only a few bumps. Percy had even passed all of his, for the first time in his school career. The day after the finals, school was out, but they had gotten their grades back.

Percy and Annabeth were hanging out at his apartment. Sally was making cookies for them as they sat in his bedroom. Percy was sitting in his desk chair, he wore sweat pants and an old t-shirt, he was on his laptop, looking for his final's grades. Annabeth sat on the bed, her legs tucked underneath her as she looked up her grades on her phone. She had on leggings, a fluffy sweater, and her hair was pulled back up into a high ponytail.

"I passed mine." Annabeth let out a breath she had been holding. She smiled over at Percy who had gone completely still. "What?"

"Wise Girl. . ." Percy turned to Annabeth, pivoting in his chair. "I-I passed." His eyes were wide, like he couldn't believe it. Annabeth gasped as she dropped her phone and covered her mouth. "All of them! Wise Girl! I passed!" Percy stood up and started grinning.

Annabeth grinned as she jumped up and into Percy's arms. Percy wrapped his arms around Annabeth as she wrapped hers around him, Percy spun her around and around. They laughed and laughed.

Sally came into the room with a flour and blue dyed-stained apron on, to investigate the noise. When she saw Annabeth and Percy hugging and spinning around she asked what was going on. Percy, with a huge grin on his face, told her that he had passed all of his finals. Sally threw her hands over her mouth before she hugged her son. Then she hugged Annabeth, Percy wrapped both of the women in his arms before they all started laughing.

Annabeth stayed for dinner and cookies, now she was curled up by Percy on the couch watching a movie. Sally had gone to bed a little while earlier, saying goodnight and telling them to not stay up too late.

Annabeth held a cup of hot cocoa in her hands as she leaned into Percy's side with a blanket covering both of them. Percy held a mug with one hand and had one arm slung over Annabeth's shoulders. They were watching Hercules, the cartoon Disney musical. Annabeth was pointing out the flaws in the movie, compared to actual Greek Myths. Percy just chuckled and poked Annabeth in the side, she swatted his arm before settling back into his side.

This wasn't the first time Annabeth had spent the night at Percy's. To get away from her family, because she had passed out studying, just because she wanted to stay over, different times for different reasons. But it ended up the same, them passed out, on the couch or in Percy's room, and at some point in the night, winding up in each other's arms. The same thing happened this time.

In the morning Percy woke up with Annabeth in his arms. They were laying on the coach, Annabeth's back pressed to Percy's chest, with the blanket pulled up to their shoulders. The blanket was from Percy's bed, blue and black striped to match his room.

Percy smiled at Annabeth's sleeping form, she was using her arms as a pillow as she tucked into his side. Her hair fell around her like a golden halo, she had taken it out of it's ponytail before watching the movie. Percy propped his head up on his hand to look down at her. She had her lips slightly parted as she breathed, deep and even.

Percy knew that Annabeth didn't sleep like that often. Because the nights she didn't spend over at his house she would show up at school with bags under her eyes. She would have a big cup of coffee and yawn every few minutes. So Percy made sure she was over as much as possible. He made sure that on those days she didn't he was extra funny, extra cheerful, and would wrap her in his arms every chance he got.

Because he knew her home was tuff, that she would toss and turn at night because she had fought with her stepmom or her dad, or had stayed up studying until her eyes bled.

Annabeth always brushed off any questions, and worried glances of the others. So Percy just learned to read the signs, and make sure she was okay. Percy knew that Annabeth wanted to be like the owls that she loved so much, wise, all-knowing, nocturnal. He held in his laugh as he brushed back a strand of hair from her face.

She scrunched up her nose before sniffing and going back to sleep.

She was always so cute, Percy thought, when she teased him or better yet, when she was concentrating on a problem or question, and when the light would fill her eyes as she got the answer. It was all so cute to him. That's why he knew.

He knew every time she would read a book around him.

He knew every time that she would help him with homework.

Every time she would tell him random owl facts, or show him a picture of a cute owl she saw online.

Every time that he would hold her in his arms and curse himself for being so selfish.

Because he thought she deserved better, needed better. Better than him, than what he could offer her. She was brilliant and amazing and sweet and kind and a million other wonderful things! And she deserved so much more than to be tied to him, shackled by some random tattoos that said she had to be.

Yeah, Percy knew that Annabeth was his soulmate. Had figured it out a while ago, when she had been staying over at his house one day. She had been curled up on the couch, reading a book, with her owl sock feet poking out of the black blanket she was using. He had made them both hot cocoa, so he walked into the room to find her lost to her own imagination, and it hit him like punch to the gut.

So yeah he knew that the sleeping girl beside him was his soulmate.

And decied that unless she brought it up, unless she wanted that. . . He wouldn't say a word about it.

Percy had already picked out his Christmas gift to her. An owl necklace, a pearly white owl with black eyes, with a sliver chain. It was simple but beautiful, just his Wise Girl's style.

Percy let Annabeth sleep while he got up, careful not to disturb her, and headed to take a shower. He ran into his mom in the hall, who was leaning on her doorframe with her white robe pulled around her. He hadn't told his mom that he knew, but he had an idea that she could tell.

"She still asleep?" Sally said lightly. Percy nodded as he yawned. "Good, that girl works herself to the bone." Sally chuckled softly as Percy turned towards the bathroom. "Percy, you know, I think for once, you figured out something before Annabeth." And that's all she said before heading to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Percy shook his head at his mother as he entered the bathroom to take a morning shower.
