It's been two weeks since Dipper gave me this "task", but I've pinpointed all of his files, some of which are back home. All I have to do is destroy them and he'll be free. I borrowed some of Candi's gadgets, even though I have no idea what some do. Dipper doesn't deserve to be put in that looney bin. I'm going across the country, though it was mine and Dipper's dream to travel the U.S. and the world. Someone knocks on my car door. I see their face. Dipper? I open the door and he sits in the car as the sheriff's car speeds by.
"What the hell Dipper!" I punch him. He doesn't reply for a couple minutes.
"You can't do the task." He finally says.
"Why? Two weeks ago you asked me to find every file on you and destroy them and now you want me to stop?" I start to yell.
"Because Bill is up to something and I can't explain all of it, but I need to stay in that looney bin so Bill doesn't plan something."
"No! It's not your fault that you're in there." I explain. "It's Bill's fault."
"But know one knows that. So as far as they know it's all my fault and that I'm insane."
"But--"
"I'll find another way. Stay away from the task." He says getting out of my car. He runs into town, probably to turn himself in. What's Bill planning and why is Dipper telling me to quit after I already started. He should know that once I start something, I won't stop until I'm done.
Nice, Shooting Star. Ignore your brother's warning.
GODDAMMIT BILL!
Fine, I'll leave you alone.
I head over to the police station to get the first set of his files. I walk in to see Sheriff Durland talking to a kid in a uniform that looks about 19.
"Hey, Sheriff Durland, do you think that there might be a chance that I can see the Able Pines' files?" I ask.
"No can do, Miss." He says walking away. Great. I look at the kid in uniform.
"Hello, Deputy... Cox."
"I'm not getting those files." He says. Damn it.
"Oh, that's okay. I work for the Gravity Falls Gossiper, and with the two year anniversary of the Able Pines case coming up, I thought I could analyze it and talk about it in the column." I lie.
"Well, I guess, since you work for the newspaper." He says getting up and going to the storage room. He comes back with a box labeled "Able Pines Murders" and hands it to me.
"Thank you." I say leaving the station and getting in my car. Maybe I can get the ones from the mental place last and surprise Dipper. And to get rid of it throw it in the bottomless pit, but then again it isn't that bottomless if we all made back the stable ground. I could just burn it, that seems like a good idea. Next is, I sigh, home. I turn the ignition and start driving to Piedmont. About 300 miles later and 45 bucks wasted on gas, I arrive home. Pulling into the driveway, my dad walks out.
"Mabel? What are you doing here? You're supposed to be heading to Washington for college."
"I decided to come back for a few more days. I mean it is just literally a one day drive." I say.
"Well, don't be a stranger then." He says. Oh, I'm pretty sure I have to be one. I walk in and see my mom washing dishes.
"Hey, mom." I say awkwardly.
"Hello sweetie. Wait, aren't you supposed to be in Washington for college?" She asks.
"Exactly what I asked." My dad says. Mom brings a pot to the table.
"Well, come eat." I sit down awkwardly. I don't have time to eat. I have to get Dipper's files. His birth certificate and hospital records. This would be so much easier if Dipper, or Stan, or someone were helping me. But as far as I'm concerned, Dipper wants to stay there, and everyone I know want him to stay. He's done so much to help people and they just brush him aside and pretend it never happened. Typical Gravity Falls.
"Do you think I could get Dipper's birth certificate and junk?" I ask. My mom drops her fork and my dad spits out his beer.
"Why would you need those?"
"When I was driving up there, I decided to visit him and the nurses there said they lost his records." I lie. I don't feel good about it, but it's what I have to do. "And when I drive through Gravity Falls to get to my College, I'll drop them off." I'm dying inside.
