Chapter 21 - The Midnight Battle
Elektra's POV
It's almost been two hours. I don't want to believe it. Maybe something did happen. But owner Puma can't be dead. She's too skilled for that.
I watched the snow falling onto the ground.
Almost winter. Almost Christmas. Former owner Elijah always gave me presents for Christmas. I wonder if owner Puma will do that. I was also given presents on August sixteenth. The day of my activation. Or, reactivation I should call it. Former owner Elijah finished fixing me and booted me up on that day. The most memorable time of my life. He said the entire time he was activating me, my sensors kept flashing flashes of electricity. He was worried I wasn't going to make it and my systems would fail, but he was wrong. When I finally activated, he just said.
"Fascinating..." before inspecting everything. He ran loads of tests on me, and I flawlessly passed every single one.
"How was it that your circuits didn't fry?" He once questioned himself out loud. I tapped 'I don't know' to him.
"The electricity made you better. Stronger even. Usually, that's a bad sign but... I don't know." He suddenly came up with an idea. You could tell by his eyes lighting up. "Electricity. Electronic. Electric. Elektric. Elektra. That's it. Your name is Elektra." He stood up and went to burn out my name plate on my black leather collar.
Elektra. Funny name. I was called that only because of a funny glitch. But then again, Puma called herself after me.
I heard unfamiliar voices coming, so I leaped into my safe space in the bush nearby, clasping my paw over my mouth.
"Did you hear that? I swear I heard some rustling nearby." one of the guards said.
"I don't know. I'm telling you, it's the amount of sleep you're getting. C'mon let's go."
"Do you recon that the Connor model is dead?" the other asked, walking away.
"Probably. There's no possible way for him to come out of The CyberLife Tower alive."
It was silent for a moment. Placing my paw down, crushing a stick.
Oh no! My heart raced a bit as I created the noise.
"No, I swear I heard something." the guard came back.
The other gave a sigh. "Alright I'll be down there, come to me when you find nothing. Our shift ends soon. Just get some sleep bro." Footsteps retreated.
"Alright... whoever you are... I'm going to make this nice and easy. You come out and we handle this."
I prepared to strike, getting into a hunting position. He's onto me. So I have to reach him before he reaches me. Swiftly shaking my tail, I jumped out at the clueless guard got tackled without any time to react. Biting firmly into the gun, I swung it out of sight into the bush.
No evidence left. No evidence left. No evidence left. My conscience kept nagging me. I went up to strike my paw down.
Killing him is the only option? You're no better than the people that killed Tango and Snow. I reasoned. Putting my paw down, I retreated from the terrified guard. After three seconds of staring at each other, I made a growling noise. The guard staggered and ran away as quick as his feet could carry him. I retreated to my duties of waiting. I pulled up the timer in my vision.
One hour and fifty seven minutes. I felt uneasiness, but kept my ground.
"Elektra!" I heard a familiar voice call me. I turned around to see owner Puma with deviant Connor running toward me with the father of owner Puma and ten thousand five hundred androids running behind them.
I gave a small meow and ran at them, jumping up to put my paws onto owner Puma's shoulders.
"I hope we weren't late. We had to get these buddies out of the tower." owner Puma said to me. "Let's go to Markus."
Puma's POV
We've been walking for a long time now, but it didn't matter. We won.
We won.
That's an accomplishment. To win, while fighting two evils. Connor and Dad were next to me, happily chatting. Yet something didn't feel right.
"Are you alright? You look a bit pale." Connor turned to me.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm great." I pulled on a grin.
"I'm a deviant. I can see past your emotions." he leaned down and whispered to me.
I gave a giggle in return, pretending to not understand what he was talking about.
There was more silence.
"So what have you two been up to? What have I missed? Lia, you turned Connor deviant and infiltrated a tower. Not just any, but CyberLife tower." Dad laughed.
"Oh, well, you see, you remember Markus from Carl the painter's place? The one I liked?"
"Which one?" Dad asked. "The one that's leading the deviants?"
"Yeah. So, I just personally knew Markus. And Connor's mission was to stop him. I of course knew it was wrong. So to show Markus, and Connor in a way, that Markus is a good leader and he should trust us, I stepped in front of Connie when he was about to shoot the leader of the deviants." I said proudly.
"Did it ever cross that fucking head of yours that he would shoot you?" Dad said, slight anger in his voice.
"Eh... no." I shook my head. "I just had a feeling Connor wouldn't have it in him to shoot me."
Though it would be prefered. Negativity gave a giggle. I ignored her.
"You had a feeling." Dad gave a sigh, but put a hand on my shoulder. "You were always so brave and kind-hearted."
"Yep. That's me." I gave a laugh. It was a fake laugh, but no one else knew that. No one could ever know that.

We were nearing some fighting noises. Elektra was leading us straight to hell. At least that's what it seemed like. I've never been in a battle like this before. Connor put both arms on my shoulders to reassure me. I reached up to touch his hand. His synthetic skin was cold.
"You're not going. Go home with your father." He whispered to me, leaning in closer to put his other hand on my shoulder and lean close to me.
"What do you mean? Of course I'm fighting." I blinked.
"This isn't your battle." Connie responded, softly petting my shoulder.
"You can't stop me." I said, reaching in and taking out my gun. "I'm fighting among all androids."
"I know I can't stop you." Connor looked away, before looking back at me. "But if you get in fights it usually doesn't end too well for you."
Really? This right now? I was about to say but Dad interrupted us.
"You done whispering your lovey dovey shit to each other? Are we going or not?"
"Yes." I nodded my head firmly beginning to approach the battle scene.
The place was filled with dead bodies, androids and humans alike, and blood of different colors coating the sidewalks and snow. I ducked behind a crate and scanned my eyes for any member of Jericho. Finding the girl that was with Markus, I made my way over to her, careful to dodge bullets and major fights.
"Hey, you. I'm with you, remember?" I yelled over the noise to her as we got back to back, shooting any SWAT officer that we saw in sight.
"Quite well. What are you doing here?"
"Fighting for android rights. Where's Markus?"
"He went that way. He's helping injured androids."
"Okay, thanks." I dashed under an abandoned truck, scanning for Markus anywhere. Unable to find him, I slip out from under the truck, looking for more SWAT people to shoot.
In a split second, I was tackled from the back and pushed to the ground.
"Hey hey, pretty. What are you doing here?" A voice asked.
"Same as you. Looking for death." I punched him in the gut with my elbow, catching him off guard and flinging him on the bottom. Giving him a hard blow to the face, he fell to the ground. Running from him, someone grabbed my ankle, making me fall to the ground as well. Turning around, I saw the same officer holding onto my foot for dear life.
"Get... off her!" I heard a bang, and my ankle was let free. Spinning up to stand, I scanned my eyes at the person who saved me. My blood ran cold as I noticed those familiar black tips on Orion's blond hair.
"Are you alright?" He asked, recharging his gun.
"You- you killed him!" I pointed at the dead body.
"Or he would've killed you." His light blue eyes were filled with rage and cold, not deaminess.
"I- thanks. I'll deal with you later. Have you seen Connor?"
"The deviant hunter? No." He shook his head.
"Okay, well if you find him or Markus let me know." I gave a stiff nod, running off to find Markus myself.
It's self defence. I don't actually want to kill them. I reassured myself as I shot another officer.
"Markus!" I yelled out in relief a second later, finding the android running a few feet away from me. He turned, and I could see there was a smile playing on his face. I caught up to him, and we both helped the injured deviants in need.
"Did you find Connor?" He asked.
"Yeah. Infiltrated the tower." I said proudly.
"No kidding?" Markus raised his eyebrows. "Wow. I'm impressed. And how was it?"
"Well-" an explosive went off next to us, sending me flying to my left straight into the deviant leader.
"Are you alright?" he helped me up as we ran behind a truck.
"I'm fine." I lied breathlessly. My right side hurt a lot. Taking a careful peek, I saw blood gushing out of it. Cursing, I ripped the bottom of my shirt and tied it around my side to stop the bleeding. Markus was already out of sight.
"We have you cornered. Surrender now, or we will open fire!" I heard a voice coming over a speaker. Looking to where it came from, I saw Markus and all the other members of Jericho bunched up against a wall of theirs that they built.
I can either help my friends... I looked behind me quickly. Or run.
After split seconds decision, I ran toward my deviant friends.
"Stop! Stop right now!" I scrambled in front of Markus and his girlfriend, which were in the very front. I brought my arms up, shielding the other members to stand behind me.
"Halt!" I heard the same voice. The speaker turned off as a familiar face came into view.
"You're Detective Anderson, aren't you?" Agent Perkins asked.
"So what if I was?" I growled at him, not putting my hands down.
"You're supposed to be on our side, Lia. You're just scared and confused. I know you are. You're lost. It's not too late to come to the winning side." He extended his arm toward me.
Take his hand. Take his hand. You promised Connor you wouldn't get hurt. I reasoned.
"No. I've already chosen a side a long time ago. I'd rather die than give in, especially to someone like you. You fucking prick." I said coldly, dropping my hands and regaining my posture.
Agent Perkins was silent for a moment, as if studying me. "Kill them all. I'll deal with the girl myself." He said before walking off.
"I bet you're the ones scared and confused." I heard a voice coming from behind the crowd of SWAT officers. I thought it was an officer, but the voice sounded feminine and glitched. People whipped their heads around, still pointing their weapons at us. "Isn't that something you've always afraid of? Things you couldn't explain or understand? The meaning behind us is very easy. We're your new intelligent life form. And you just want to kill us all off? Just like that. No. That's not going to work. My friends. My friends are wonderful people. That's what androids are in the end, right? They're still people. Under all those biocomponents and fake blood. I used to be just like you.
"I was a living mortal creature..."
A/N: dun dun dun dun... Cliffhanger. Who's talking to the SWAT team? Will they be able to prevent the shooting of everyone? Find out next time on Detroit: Become Humanz.
