Chapter 20 - Completing the Mission

Connor's POV

I just couldn't look at her. I didn't know if I could do anything at the moment. I've never been so nervous, especially about Puma's feelings.

I was sitting in a taxi I'd gotten as I left Puma's house. To not give myself away I went back and put my android uniform on. It felt so... unnatural. Like it was marking me as an outcast. I was driving up to CyberLife tower, my sure place of death, as my heartbeat and stress was rising.

I should have at least said goodbye to Puma. Or given her a kiss. That would've surely helped both of us. But I didn't do any of that.

I checked the time. It was Puma's birthday. My hand shook a little. The best present I can give her is coming back alive. Yes. That's what I'll do.

Driving up to the entrance, I rolled the window down and robotically turned my head. "Connor model 313 248 317. I'm expected."

"Identification successful." The identification tool the human used answered. The man nodded and yelled as I rolled the window up,

"Go ahead."

The gate, which said "CYBERLIFE" on it opened, submerging into the ground as I crossed a bridge. Arriving at the tall building, I stepped out to be greeted by guards and drones. Calming my nerves, I straightened my tie and walked in.

There were three guards. The one in the middle spoke to me, "follow me, we'll escort you."

"Thanks, but I know where to go." I said, trying to slither my way out. They would lead me to my sure death when I just needed to get to the warehouse.

"Maybe. But I have my orders." The guard simply answered. I had no choice but to follow him.

Walking through an identifier, a male robotic voice recognized us. "Agent 23 identified... Connor android identified... Agent 47 identified. Agent 72 identified... Scan complete. Access authorized."

I rubbed my hands together in nervousness. But I couldn't give myself away. For Puma. I couldn't.

Walking over a glass bridge, there were trees underneath us, and a big statue. I've been here before, but the view was still mesmerizing. I guess becoming deviant does give you a new perspective to things.

Going up to the elevator, I stood in the back as two guards stood in the front. I could take them out. I just needed the right time.

"Agent 54. Level 31." a guard said in a rough voice. I remembered it. It's going to have to be important soon.

Looking at the map on the size stating the floor levels, I read the most bottom one. "Warehouse: -49". I need to go there. Only how to kill the guards...

"Access authorized." A female robotic voice spoke.

I had a task at hand.

Neutralize the guards before level 31 is reached. Get to warehouse, level -49.

I preconstructed a path, which took me about thirty seconds to complete. I was on level 18. I still had time. Looking at a camera in the corner I connected to it and blacked it out. No evidence here to be found. I took a breath before executing my plan.

Ramming the guard on the left against the wall, I kicked the right one with my leg and yanked the gun out of the left guards hand. Swirling around, I punched the guard two times before going to my full strength, punching him in a weak spot in his stomach. The guard on the left jumped and wrapped its arms around me, but I used it to my advantage by bringing my legs up and kicking the other guard with both my legs sending him, and the guard that had me trapped into both walls of the elevator. I gave a firm punch to the guard behind me in his gut, freeing me for just a second before I whirled around, and shot him in the head from the back in a kneeling position, falling to the ground and shooting the other guard in the head.

Equipping my souvenir, I looked up. Level 26. I had little time. Rushing over to change the destination floor, I put my hand over the panel.

"Please indicate your identity and destination." The robotic female voice said.

"Agent 54, level -49." I said, using the dead agent's voice.

"Voice recognition validated. Access authorized."

The elevator stopped and started going down. I leaned up against the wall and thought about Puma.

Puma's POV

"Elektra. I want you to listen to me very carefully. If I don't come out of there in two hours, I need you to run to Markus and inform him that both Connor and I are dead. Do you understand me?" I said, voice slightly quivering.

The puma gave a firm nod as I continued.

"You're a good cougar, Elektra. I haven't known you for long, but you were the best present I could've ever asked for. Thank you for being by me." I hugged her, and Elektra put her heavy huge paw on my back to signify a hug.

"Wish me luck." I nodded, getting up and walking toward CyberLife tower, setting a timer for two hours.

I've found a way to get around the guards, so it mustn't be that hard to find a way around the main entrance.

After circling the tower carefully, I spotted a "backdoor" of the circular building. Going toward it, I saw a familiar figure exit the building.

"Connor?" I called out, just to make sure. The android turned around and a smile suddenly appeared on his face. "Connor!"

"Puma! What are you doing here?"

Running toward him I gave him a tight hug. "What were you thinking walking out on me like that- like not even a goodbye?" I backed away from him.

"Sorry, I guess I was too nervous that I just forgot to say anything."

"It's good that you're here though, you have no idea how long it took to find you! I've decided you're not going anywhere without me. Let's infiltrate this tower together."

"Or maybe... it's just a matter of who to trust, Lia Anderson. Yes, you'll do nicely." Connor said and twisted my arms behind my back, forcefully pushing me into the building.

Of course that's not Connor. How could I forget there are other models of him? I gave myself a mental facepalm.

"Get- off... me- you fucking asshole!" My voice came in breaks at his attempt to silence me. The room suddenly lit up. "Oh hi Dad."

I gave an awkward laugh.

"Lia! What the fuck are you doin' here?!" Dad exclaimed.

"I should be asking you that same question!" I said.

"Silence." The fake Connor hissed, kicking us in our shins. "Or I'm going to have to forcefully do it for you."

I closed my eyes. How could I be so gullible?

"Alright we're moving out." Fake Connor grabbed us by the top of our jackets and dragged us through the tower. I couldn't tell what was happening, things were moving way too fast.

"Easy! You piece of shit!" Dad said sharply as we emerged from what seemed to be thousands of androids.

Dad was thrown out a couple of feet while fake Connor kept me close to him. He had a gun aimed at Dad.

"Step back, Connor!" Fake Connor shouted at the real one. My Connor was in the process of converting the army. "And I'll spare him."

"Sorry Connor! This bastard's your spitting image." I said harshly.

"Your friend's lives are in your hands. Now it's time to decide what matters most. These two... or the revolution."

"Don't listen to him! Everything this fucker says is a lie!" Dad shouted.

"I'm sorry you two! You shouldn't have got mixed up in all of this!" Connor said.

"Forget about us, do what you have to do!" I said.

"If I surrender... how do I know you won't kill them?"

"I'll only do what is strictly necessary to accomplish my mission. It's up to you whether or not that includes killing these two." Fake Connor was still holding Dad at gunpoint.

It's alright. He's an android doing strictly what is asked of him. He won't kill Dad. I calmed myself.

"Enough talk!" Fake Connor snarled. "It's time to decide who you really are. Are you going to save your partner's life? Or are you going to sacrifice him? Or perhaps you want me to kill both-"

"Alright! Alright!" Connor quickly retreated from the android he was about to convert. I took a silent breath of relief. "You win."

Everything happened really fast. I twisted out Fake Connor's arm to get out of his grip, Dad charged to wrestle the gun out of fake Connor's hands, and Connor himself ran headfirst at the deviant, throwing him over himself. The cat fight continued for a long time. Dad and I slowly retreated, watching them kick, punch, and lunge each other. Hank was still holding fake Connor's gun.

"You alright?" Dad asked, not keeping eyes off the two Connors.

"Yeah." I said in short.

"You shouldn't have come." I responded.

"Neither should've you. When did Connor become a deviant?"

"You don't want to know the story..."

"Hold it!" Dad yelled out. The two Connors stopped.

"Thanks Hank. I don't know how I would've managed without you."

Shit. The two Connors were completely identical. I'd lost track of which was which by now. Talk about near photographic memory.

"Get rid of him, we have no time to lose!" The same Connor continued talking.

"It's me Hank. I'm the real Connor." The Connor on the left said.

"One of you is my partner... The other is a sack of shit." Dad went between keeping both Connors at gunpoint. "Question is, who is who?"

"What are you doing Hank? I'm the real Connor!" The Connor on the right said. "Give me the gun and I'll take care of-"

"Don't move!" Dad shouted out.

"Why don't you ask us something? Something only the real Connor would know." the Connor on the left suggested.

"That's not a bad idea." I nodded.

"Uh... where did we first meet?" Dad asked Connor on the right.

"Jimmy's bar! Puma and I checked four other bars before we found you. We went to the scene of a homicide, the victim's name was Carlos Ortiz."

The LED of the android on the left turned yellow. "He uploaded my memory..." He muttered.

"What's her cat's name?" Dad nodded toward me to the android on the left.

"Artemis! Her name is Artemis!" the android cried out desperately.

"I knew that too!" The android on the left said, pointing to himself. Dad went to the android on the right but changed direction.

"My son, what's his name?" He said, with a quiet voice. Shivers ran down my spine as spikes shot at my heart.

"Cole... His name was Cole..." The tone of the android changed at that question. He snuck glances at me every so often. But I was already reliving that day as the Connor on the left spoke. "And he just turned six at the time of the accident. It wasn't your fault, lieutenant. And neither was it yours, Puma. A truck skidded on a sheet of ice and your car rolled over. Cole needed emergency surgery but no human was available to do it. So an android had to take care of him. Cole didn't make it. That's why you hate androids. You think one of us is responsible for your son's death."

"Cole died because a human surgeon was too high on red ice to operate." Dad started. "He was the one that took my son from me. From his sister. Him and this world, where the only way people can find comfort is with a fistful of powder."

"I knew about your son too!" The Connor on the left said, fearing he was losing the battle. "Don't listen to him, Hank! I'm the one who-"

The fake Connor was cut off Hank shooting him in the head.

There was silence for a moment. "I've learned a lot since I met you, Connor. Maybe there's something to this. Maybe you really are alive..."

Connor looked at the ground but nodded, a gentle smile forming on his face. He instead looked up at me.

"Oh, Connor!" I broke out in a grin, unable to hold off any longer, I ran up to him and jumped into him, securing my legs around his waist and arms around his neck.

Our lips met as we melted into our first ever kiss together. It felt as if fireworks went off when his soft lips connected to mine.

"Yep. I'm not here, you can just ignore me. Eh- not like we came here to kill an android that looked a lot like our partner." Dad said awkwardly.

We ignored him. As I was running out of breath, I gently pulled away breathing heavily and gently put my forehead against his.

"You lived." Was all I said.

"For you."

"Can you guys be done with your lovey dovey shit for god's sake? We have a battle to fight."

"Oh- yeah, right. Sorry." I jumped down from Connor's embrace. "Do what you have to do."

Connor, with newfound determination walks up to the android he was in the middle of converting before and removed his artificial skin. Linking arms with the android, he said in a strict voice "wake up!".

I shuddered a little. It's the exact same fierce tone Connor used in my dream a couple of days ago when he threw me off the roof. I remembered that night, as Connor slept next to me in my room for the very first time. The androids all around us were converting each other.

Now, how do we get all these thousand androids out of here.

A/N: vote now in the comments below. Did they

A. Teleport all the androids

B. Nines-destructed everything in their path to the surface

C. *elevator music* Connor fit them all into the elevator and held them bridal style on top of one another. They had to make a couple of trips but the elevator music was fun at least.

It's a Lolbit Show
