Chapter 2 - I AM ALIVE

Connor's POV

By the time we got to the crime scene, it had started to rain. A huge crowd of people was next to the house, probably waiting for their questions to be answered.

"You wait here, we won't be long," Lieutenant Anderson gave me a glare as Detective got out of her car.

"My instructions are to accompany you to the crime scene, Lieutenant," I stated.

Hank^

"Listen, I don't give a fuck about your instructions. I told you to wait here, so shut the fuck up, and you wait here."

Lieutenant rolled his eyes as he got out of the car, leaving me inside. He muttered something under his breath I couldn't quite catch.

I looked at Lieutenant Anderson and his partner going up to the house, the large group crowding them.

Follow Detective and Lieutenant Anderson.

I got out of the car and started walking toward them.

"Woah Woah, androids aren't permitted beyond this point." a human police officer stopped me. I opened my mouth to object that I was ordered to follow the two, but Detective spoke up.

"He's with us!" she shouted over the noise of the crowd and the rain. I scanned her face, knowing I should've done that when I first saw her. But now that I knew a formal introduction wasn't coming, I decided to look up her information.

LIA CAT ANDERSON

Age: 21

Born: November 11, 2017

Status: Cold

Weight: 125.6 lbs. (Underweight)

Height: 5'8 (taller than average)

I blinked away the information that appeared and walked up to Detective Lia Anderson.

They were father and daughter working together as partners. I concluded.

"What part 'stay in the car' did you not understand?" Lieutenant Anderson snarled at me.

"Your order contradicted my instructions Lieutenant." I bowed my head calmly.

"You don't talk," Anderson started counting off his fingers. "You don't touch anything, and you stay out of my way, got it?"

"Got it." I nodded obediently as Lieutenant walked into the house.

Lia patted my shoulder. "Don't worry about him, he's usually this grumpy."

I hadn't been expecting Detective Lia to touch me. But her touch made me feel an odd sensation that I couldn't explain.

(A/N: It's a Connor fanfic. I give you one try to figure out why you feel a strange sensation toward the girl XD)

Puma's POV

Connor's LED flashed yellow, processing information as he initiated a smile. As close to a smile as you can get since androids don't feel emotions. I wonder how they live.

"Understood, Detective Lia," he said. I stiffened at my name. "I'm sorry, did I say something wrong, Detective?" Connor noticed I froze.

"No, it's fine. I'm not going to ask how you found out my name, though you probably scanned my face, which is slightly disturbing. And don't call me that. Please." she added.

Connor's eyes jerked to his upper right as if he was reading something, dropped his shoulders slightly as if he was upset about something. "What should I call you then, Detective?" he asked as we walked into the crime scene.

"My name is Puma. I'm sorry, I should've introduced myself."

"No need to apologize, Detective Puma, I made the mistake." Connor fixed his tie and slipped off his jacket, putting it on my shoulders. "My heat sensors are telling me you are cold." He explained when I gave him a confused look, huddling in the jacket. I didn't bother putting on the sleeves but rather tucked my hands to close it.

"Ah, okay then. Thank you, Connor." I smiled. Connor's eyes jerked to the upper right again as he regained his posture. He looked completely different without his jacket.

"Evening Hank! Puma," Ben, a coworker, nodded as I came up with Connor's jacket. "We were starting to think you weren't going to show,"

"Yeah, that was the plan until these assholes found me." Hank pointed his finger at us. I stuck out my tongue childishly.

"So, Hank, you finally got yourself an android." Ben smiled at Hank.

"Very funny. Now tell us what happened."

"We had a call around eight from the landlord. The tenant hadn't paid his rent for a few months, so he thought he'd stop by, see what's going on... and then he found the body..."

We walked in on a disturbing sight. I pushed the back of my fingers up to my mouth to stop myself from gagging. The victim was already decaying. The words I AM ALIVE were written in most likely blood on the wall right above the victim. Everyone was investigating the house, trying to find some evidence and piece together what happened. I was extra positive we'd discover where the murderer was, now that we had an android with us. Yet the smell was starting to get to me. I softly plugged my nose to breathe through my mouth, clutching Connor's jacket closed around my body with my other.

"Jesus, that smell..." Dad voiced my thoughts. Connor didn't pay attention to the smell, due to the fact he was an android. But the smell was so horrible it should be getting to him as well. It smelled a bit like rotten eggs, or maybe a dirty, damp washcloth that started to smell all over the house. The victim must've been laying around in here for quite a while before the police found him.

"It was even worse when we opened the windows. The victim's name is Carlos Ortiz. Had a record for theft and aggravated assault. According to the neighbors, he was a bit of a loner. Stayed inside most of the time. They hardly ever saw him.

"Uh, the state he's in... wasn't worth calling everyone in the middle of the night." Dad said, kneeling next to Carlos. "Could've waited 'til morning."

I walked up to a table, which was clamped with a mess, but continued listening to the briefing.

"I'd say he's been here for a good three weeks. We'll know more once the coroner gets here." Ben ignored Dad's complaints.

I looked over the desk to find any evidence. I found a packet of... "Ah, yes. Carlos was on drugs." I inspected the red ice packet, but not touching it. I didn't have gloves. And I was too cold to touch anything, keeping Connor's jacket for warmth.

Crouching down near a knife, covered in blood, I didn't inspect any fingerprints.

'Maybe Android involvement? Like it said in the file?' I thought. 'But it wouldn't make sense unless he became a deviant, somehow.' I stood up.

Connor, not seeming to notice anything, looked down at the knife. He swiped two fingers over the blood. The next thing he did caught me off guard. I nearly vomited right then and there. Connor stuck his fingers in his mouth and licked the blood.

'What are you doing?!' I thought to myself. I sighed. I might have forgotten for a second that he was an android.

"Err, Jesus, what the hell are you doing?" Dad's response was different.

"I'm analyzing the blood," The android stood up. "I can check samples in real-time. I'm sorry. I should've warned you."

"Okay... just... don't put any more evidence into your mouth, you got it?"

"Got it." Connor nodded.

"Ugh, fucking hell I can't believe this shit..." Dad walked away.

I nudged Connor and gave him a wink. "Don't mind him. Do what you need to do to get your job done, okay?" I smiled.

Connor's POV

Detective Puma gave me a playful wink and smiled. I felt a strange feeling going through my body. My pump regulator seemed to stop completely for a split second. I decided to run a diagnostic, as because this is not normal for an android.

No malfunction detected.

That's weird, I'm sure something should've happened if my regulator pump stopped. I felt something in the corner of my eye again. I looked at my upper-right hand corner of my eye.

Lia: Warm^

I'm going to have to change her name to Puma, as she doesn't like being called by her real name for some unknown reason. I closed my eyes and went to her information box, changing her name from Lia to Puma.

Puma's POV

I saw Connor's cheeks just barely flush a blue color. He closed his eyes and after a second opened them with a smile.

The wonders of an android. No one will know what's going on inside that artificial brain. I walked away to go to the kitchen. I stopped at the door to look back at Connor, who was investigating the body. Maybe something human.

"He was stabbed," Connor spoke up after around five or so minutes. "Twenty-eight times." I let out a wince, clutching my stomach.

"Yeah, it seems like the killed really had it in for him." Dad nodded.

Connor walked off to check something in the bathroom.

"So, you've known each other for what? About an hour and he's already giving you his hoodies? Reminds me of the old days..." Dad finally noticed Connor's jacket on me. Not that I wanted him to notice.

"He said his heat sensors were telling him I was cold. So he gave me his jacket for me to stay warm." I looked away.

"Whatever you say. And Connor's an 'it'."

"He," I muttered under my breath quietly.

"Lieutenant, I think I figured out what happened," Connor walked up to us.

"Oh yeah? Shoot, I'm all ears." Dad shrugged.

"It all started... in the kitchen." Connor walked to the kitchen as we followed him.

"There are obvious signs of struggle... the question is, what exactly happened here?"

"I think the victim attacked the android... with the bat." Connor pointed to the bat.

"That lines up with the evidence. Go on."

"Then, the android stabbed the victim."

"So the android was trying to defend itself, right? Okay, then what happened?" I asked.

"The victim fled to... the living room." Connor walked back to the living room, us following.

"And he tried to get away from the android. Alright, that makes sense." Dad nodded.

"The android murdered the victim... with a knife." Connor pointed to the knife.

"Okay, your theory isn't totally ridiculous..." Dad said. "But it doesn't tell us where the android went."

"It was damaged by the bat... and lost some Thirium." Connor thought aloud.

"Lost some what?"

"Thirium. It's the stuff that runs android biocomponents. Humans call it blue blood." I stated.

"You are a human, Lia." Dad looked at me. "Looks like this android isn't having a good effect on you."

"Dad, he's only been with us for around an hour, out of which I spoke to him for about thirty minutes. How's he having a bad effect on me?" I glared, ignoring the fact Dad said my name.

"Thirim evaporates after a few hours, becoming invisible to the naked eye." Connor paid no attention to our quarreling.

"Alright. But I bet you can still see it, can't you?"

"Correct," Connor stated, looking for something we couldn't see. I went back to the kitchen, noticing a magazine. I read about an article stating how android sex is officially better, and another article on the question of whether your android is spying on you. After guessing they probably were, I slid the magazine back on the table, looking around. I couldn't wait to get home.

"Hey! Hey! Hey! What are you doing with that chair?" I heard Dad. I looked to see Connor holding a chair. I walked up to them.

"I'm going to check something," Connor stated matter-of-factly and went to what looked like the attic.

"Huh. Gonna check something." Dad voiced Connor and I softly slapped his shoulder with the back of my hand.

After a couple of minutes, Dad started getting impatient. "Connor, what the fuck is going on up there?"

"It's here, Lieutenant!" I heard a yell from Connor. I froze.

"Holy shit... Chris, Ben, Lia, get your asses here now! Come on!"
