Chapter 15 - Long Forgotten Elektra

Get ready for some shocking news. Puma is depressed and if you're in the same boat as her it's not recommended to read the story. But this is probably not gonna stop you. I keep saying it every chapter and I dunno if it's working or not XD

Puma's POV

Instead of sitting shotgun, I took a seat next to Connor in the backseat. His LED sometimes flashed red, from shock. My need to want to comfort an android shocked Connor and Dad, but neither of them said anything about it.

"Are you okay? Your LED is still flashing red." I asked.

"Yes... yes, of course, Lia. I need for my system to return back to normal." Connor said.

I frowned, why did he start calling me Lia? Are his systems ruined that much?

"As an android... it would probably be difficult for you to handle emotion head-on, especially something like fear," I muttered, not knowing if he would get mad for me saying that or not. In an attempt to comfort Connor, I reached for his hand. It's always calmed me down so it was an almost automatic gesture.

In instinct, our fingers intertwined. Looking away and blushing like a schoolgirl. I watched the artificial skin from his hand come off, signaling he was trying to interface with something. Androids usually do it when they want to learn information about something or communicate with other androids. Did this mean he was trying to interface with me?

It was probably nothing, he wanted to connect with me, but I thought the feeling was an act of something more intimate. I looked up at him and we locked eyes for a moment. Involuntarily, I started leaning forward, and so did he. We were inches from each other until-

"If you two are planning on fucking in the backseat, you're cleaning up and getting me a new car." Dad scowled at us near the rearview mirror. The action made both of us jump back, yet our fingers haven't left each other's grasp. I yelled at myself for forgetting my dad's presence. While in his own car.

"Shut up," I said to Dad, but mostly to myself. "It's only a joke," I said to Connor.

"Yes. Of course. Only a joke." the android turned to his normal senses again, LED turning the usual sky-blue, though there was a blue blush spread across his face a little.

The only thing left for me is to hope that our friendship isn't ruined over an automatic gesture like that. Yet Connor's hand was still in mine, nor did he cover up his artificial skin. If he really regretted our almost-kiss, he didn't show it. I was relieved to do the same.

Of course, he regretted it. You really think that android likes you? Reality check, no one loves you, let alone an android. Negativity giggled. I was sick of her, yet how can I be when she told me the straight-up truth?

***

After Stratford tower, we decided to not investigate any further and go home for the day. Upon arriving home I sat down on the couch and threw my head back, I was exhausted. Exhausted even though we barely did anything. That deviant could've killed me. It could've killed Connor. It could've killed Dad. Out of fear. Human emotions.

"Connor? Do you still believe we're doing the right thing?" I asked, hoping he was in the room with me.

"Of course." He answered in short. "Are you alright, Puma?"

"Yeah." I nodded. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"I'll be right back." I heard Connor's footsteps behind me and I closed my eyes.

Take a rope, just off heights, cut your veins or electrify..! Negativity sang in a rhythmic voice. Russian Roulette, to add some fun, put some poison in your food. No one cared, no one will, none attend your funeral. And all over again. Though the song was a bit catchy, I couldn't get the song stuck in my head. I pulled my palms over my ears and pushed, trying to block off the noise, though I knew it was useless. I was creating the voice, it was in my head.

"Puma!" Connor's voice, unnaturally louder than normal brought me back into reality.

"Yeah- oh what?" I blinked. He had a medical kit from yesterday in his hands.

"I had to call you three times in order for you to hear me. Is everything alright?" He asked, sitting down to the left of me and taking my hand to pull down my sleeve. Since I went to sleep early, my wounds healed faster than normal when Connor took off the bandages. I ran two fingers through the length from my wrist to elbow crease. I could still feel the places where there were former cuts. After Connor renewed my bandages We were looking for movies to watch when I got a notification on my phone.

"Woah, no way..." I clasped my hand over my mouth. "Yanderedev is making announcements for Oka Ruto to be out in Yandere Simulator in about a couple of months!"

(A/N: alright this is the future and I had to make fun of YandereDev just a little bit. Still waiting on Osana, she should be released this month today is August 29th. If y'all wanna keep up with Osana's development visit the link at the bottom of the page after you finish reading this)

The game was my childhood, I got into it when the first rival came out, by the name of Osana Najimi back in twenty-twenty four when I was seven. The developer was really slow at making the game but in the end, it was worth the wait.

"Sounds interesting." Connor looked over at my phone. "Yandere-developer, also known as Alex, no last name provided was born in nineteen eighty-eight, June thirtieth and has been developing a very well known game called "Yandere Simulator" ever since April, twenty fourteen." Connor scanned the facts.

"Yep, correct." I nodded, going over the work he has finished and still needs to complete. "Anyway, speaking of old games, I haven't seen the FNaF movies in ages! Wanna watch?"

"Sounds fun." Connor gave a smile. I scrolled through the three movies, one released in twenty-twenty one, the next released two years later, and the following one three years later. It was a pretty good trilogy if I do say so myself. I put on the first movie and tucked my legs to side sit and leaned up against Connor as the movie began. To make me feel better he scooted closer to me and put his arm on the top of the couch.

When the movie was finished I got up to eat some food and we both went upstairs to fall asleep.

The next morning the three of us found ourselves in front of a mansion. Dad said he'd thought about going to Elijah Kamski's house for more information on deviants. Connor and I were sitting in the car in silence as Dad was walking in front of the car, talking on the phone. When he was done I walked out of the car and walked up to him. Dad seemed to have discussed something serious.

"Everything good?" I asked.

"Chris was on patrol last night. He was attacked by a bunch of deviants... He said he was saved by Markus himself..." Dad said, sending a surge of pride for my friend.

"Is Chris okay?"

"Yeah... he's alone but he's fine... what the hell..."

The three of us started walking toward the entrance when Dad asked me, "So, how long has he been calling you by his name?"

I looked over my shoulder to see Connor playing with his coin, most likely out of earshot.

"He saved my life, he can do whatever he wants," I answered.

"Is that around the same time you started calling him 'Connie'?" Dad gave a smirk as I looked away with a huff. "Sweetie, I know you like Connor but he's going back to CyberLife after the whole deviant thing is over. Let's face it, he's an android. All you really need is to go into a bar and you'll find someone you like."

My dad has joked when I was a kid that I wasn't allowed to go anywhere alone because I was too pretty and that getting a guy would be easy for me. I used to giggle at the comment, but now I don't even want to bother.

"I-I know..." I hung my head.

"I just don't want to see you hurt." Deep inside I knew Dad wanted the best for me, but his words still hurt me.

I heard Connor's footsteps behind me as he walked next to me. I wonder how much he overheard. "Kamski left CyberLife ten years ago, why did you want to meet him?"

"This guy created the first android to pass the Turing test. And he's the founder of CyberLife. Anybody can tell us about deviants, it's him."

Well, we really must've run out of options then. I thought to myself as Dad pressed the doorbell.

After a couple of seconds, I went to press the doorbell when a pretty blonde android opened the door.

"Hi. Eh. I'm, er, Lieutenant Hank Anderson with my partner Puma Anderson, Detroit Police Department. We're here to see Mr. Elijah Kamski." Dad stuttered as I lightly giggled to myself. The pretty android examined both of us.

"Please come in," She smiled, letting us through. "I'll let Elijah know you're here. But please, make yourselves comfortable." She walked through the door. Dad sat in a chair as I looked around the room. Connor seemed to do the same.

"Nice girl," Dad commented.

"You're right. She's really pretty." Connor nodded.

I simply smiled, agreeing with the two men, hiding the pain of the spear going through my heart. I've been doing it for so long it almost felt natural.

To give me something to do, I turned to look at Kamski's portrait on the wall. I knew what he looked like, anyone alive in the twenty-first century knew what he looked like. I was excited to get to meet him in person.

"Nice place," Dad continued the small talk, having nothing to do. "Guess androids haven't been a bad thing for everyone."

I nodded, taking deep breaths to make the pain still welling up inside me go away. But the rain clouds have officially crowded above me. I was half expecting to see them as I looked up.

"Yeah, I guess so," I answered Dad's question.

"Amanda..." I heard Connor whisper. I barely heard him. As I walked over, I saw Elijah Kamski standing next to an older woman.

"You know her?" I asked.

"I do." He nodded.

"So, you're about to meet your maker Connor, how does that make you feel?" Dad asked.

"Kamski is one of the great geniuses of the twenty-first century. It will be interesting to meet him in person."

"Sometimes I wish I could meet my creator face to face... I'd have a couple of things I want to tell him." Dad admitted. I turned to him. I've never actually met my grandfather, but Dad tells me he left the family when he found out my grandma was pregnant with Dad. I turned to a square steel artwork with a dent in the middle.

Eye of Sauron or vagina, we shall never know. I joked to myself, going to sit down in the chair next to Dad.

"Eliah will see you now." The sudden reappearance of the pretty blonde android scared me a bit. The door we entered led to an indoor pool with a glass wall, looking out to a pretty view. The bottom of the pool was red, making Kamski look like he swam in red ice.

Another person contributing to Detroit's red ice problem found. I smiled to myself again. I couldn't believe I was in such a happy mood today.

"Mister Kamski?" Dad asked.

"Just a moment please..." Kamski said, swimming to the other end.

The room was covered in artworks. I remembered Carl Manfred was close to Elijah Kamski, which explains all the murals and paintings on the walls.

The owner of the wonderful mansion himself got out of the pool, the pretty female android coming toward him with a midnight blue robe and put it over his shoulders. He tied up the belt and went to fix his hair before facing us.

"I'm Lieutenant Anderson, this is my partner, Puma Anderson, and that's Connor." Dad gestured to each of us. I was half surprised he mentioned Connor.

"Puma... Anderson..." He scanned me.

"It's a nickname. My name is Lia." I bowed my head.

"No, no... You came to me with an android wild cat a few years back. It just surprised me you named yourself after it." He smiled. I blinked twice, slightly shocked, remembering the situation.

"Oh- yeah," I said, pushing my hair behind my ear to give myself something to do.

"Anyway, what can I do for you?" Kamski turned to Dad.

"Sir, we know you're investigating deviants." He started. "I know you left CyberLife years ago, but we were hoping for you to tell us something we don't know."

He thought for a bit. "Deviants." He started, looking at Connor. Fascinating, aren't they? Perfect beings with infinite intelligence, and now they have free will... Machines are so superior to us, confrontation was inevitable... Humanity's greatest achievement threatens to be its downfall. Isn't it ironic?"

"Something in the deviant's program seems to emulate emotion." Connor began. "We thought you might know something about how that occurs."

"All ideas are viruses that spread like epidemics... Is the desire to be free contagious?" He didn't answer.

"Listen, we didn't come here to talk philosophy." Dad was starting to lose patience. "The machines you created may be planning a revolution. Either you can tell us something that might be helpful, or we will be on our way."

Kamski nodded and looked back at Connor. "What about you, Connor? Whose side are you on?"

"It's not about me, Mr. Kamski. All I want to do is to solve this case."

Kamski laughed at his response. "Now that's what you're programmed to say. But you... what do you really want?"

"What I want is not important," Connor said flatly.

"I'm sure you're familiar with the Turing test. A mere formality, a simple question of algorithms, and computing capacity. What interests me, is whether machines are capable of empathy. I call it the 'Kamski Test', it's very simple, you'll see."

He turned around to get something from his drawer and looked at his reflection in the window. "Connor, what's your opinion on humans?"

"I already told you, sir. My opinion isn't important."

"What about the ones you've developed a connection with? Like Lia, or Hank?" He turned around, stuffing something into his pocket.

"They're my partners, nothing more." Connor's answer sent repeated knives into my chest.

I'm sure that's not true. I thought.

Well, why would he lie? Negativity answered.

"Well, it's up to you to answer that fascinating question, Connor." Kamski smiled, then turned to me. "Could you come here for a bit, Puma?"

I obeyed, walking to where Kamski pointed me to stand. He moved me a little to the right by grabbing my biceps. "Right here should be fine, thanks." He walked up to Connor. Handing him... a gun. My blood ran cold as I looked around me.

"Kill your partner, and I will tell you all I know, or spare her if you think it's not the right thing to do. Yet you'll leave without learning anything from me." He put the gun into Connor's hand and guided his gun onto me.

"Woah woah woah!" I yelled out, backing away into the cabinet.

"What do you think you're doing, Kamski, using my daughter as a lab rat?" Dad pulled his gun out, but Kamski put up a hand to stop Hank, still looking at Connor.

"She's no value to you. Who is she? Another human, who is enslaving you. You think she wants to help you but she really doesn't. She looks at you like all the others do. You're her slave." Kamski taunted Connor. I couldn't look up, but eventually, I slowly looked up to see Connor still had the gun pointed up at me. I could tell something was happening in his little android brain. I smiled at him sadly, before dropping my gaze and kneeling down on my knees. I could feel Dad had his gun out, aimed at Connor if he made any movements to pulling the trigger. I didn't drop my smile, closing my eyes, and preparing for death.

Connor's POV

Her smile. Her smile. The smile she gave me before going on her knees. It was like a photograph, imprinted in my brain. It wasn't a happy bright cheerful smile. If anything... It was a sad, pitiful smile. It was between Puma, the woman who'd changed my life around, or the chance of being deactivated.

I need the information.

But I also needed Puma. I needed her.

Resting my finger on the trigger, I slowly raised the gun up and handed it back to Kamski.

"Fascinating..." He smiled, taking the gun. Puma's head bolted up, confused. I could see a bit of disappointment in her face.

Puma: companion^^^

Hank: friend^^^

"CyberLife's last chance to save humanity... threatens to be its downfall."

Kamski gave him a smirk before turning to Lieutenant Anderson. "Before you shoot me, I'd like you to observe the two of them." He pointed to me and Puma. "They clearly like each other, it's like... they have some sort of friendship. As soon as I looked at the two, I could tell they were really good friends. And from the moment I handed Connor the gun, I knew he wasn't going to shoot your daughter. Curious things, us humans. We get attached to anything we can talk to. Yet it's more likely to get attached when you both recognize the bond friendship makes."

"I-I'm not a deviant," I said, defensively, seeing what he was getting at.

"I say false. You didn't see her as some pointless human you could've shot and accomplished your mission. But rather as someone really close to you. You showed empathy, Connor." Kamski walked over to Puma and helped her get up. The girl was still terrified of me pointing a gun at her and remained on her knees. "A war is coming, you'll have to choose your side. Will you betray your own people or go up against your creators? What could be worse than having to choose between two evils?"

He let go of Puma and she stumbled toward her father, still in shock.

"You really get attached to things..." Kamski repeated, looking up at puma. "Like things get attached to you. Elektra!" He called over his shoulder.

One second, everything was quiet. The next, a big pale orange dog came crashing into view. Raising it's majestic head up, I realized it wasn't a dog. Looking at the single black ear I recognized her immediately. It was Puma's cougar.

"I'd like to return something you gave to me." He ran a hand down the puma's fur. "Elektra, you remember Lia Anderson, do you?"

The mountain lion looked over at Puma, its LED swirling a yellow. Letting out an excited "meow!" she ran over to Puma and jumped on its hind legs and put her front paws on Puma's shoulders, giving her a lick. The girl the puma had jumped on was fascinated, ruffling the Puma's fur.

"You had her all this time?" She asked, looking over at Kamski. The tense moment in which Puma could've died was forgotten.

"Indeed. You never wanted Elektra back after you gave me her, so I was keeping her for a rainy day. And it has come. She's very well trained, if you still want her, that is."

"Of course I do!" Puma grinned, still ruffling the wild cat's fur.

"No. No way that thing is getting in my car." Hank objected, pointing toward the six-foot-long cougar.

"I wasn't asking you. I'll take the walk home." Puma huffed angrily.

"Then I'm glad our meeting ended on a positive note." Kamski headed over to the cabinet again and gave Puma a big leash with a thick rope. "She's quite hard to maintain sometimes. Use this when she's giving you a hard time. I hope you'll keep Elektra safe."

On that note, we departed. Puma was thrilled, and for once happy with, Elektra, the puma that had once saved her life by her side.

"By the way... I always leave an emergency exit in my programs... You never know..."

We headed out.

"I'll get a headstart and catch a taxi. See you around." Puma said, excusing herself.

"Nonsense. Wait in the car."

"But Elektra-"

"Elektra is going with us." Hank sighed.

Puma's eyes lit up yet again as she ran toward the car with her new pet.

I was about to follow her when Hank stopped me. "Why didn't you shoot?"

"She's... well... Puma. I couldn't shoot my partner."

"That was our one chance to learn everything and you let it go."

"Because I care about her, alright?" I snapped. "I know what I should've done, but I couldn't. I'm sorry, okay? If I was asked to shoot an android, for instance, I would. But we're talking about a real person. Your daughter, Hank..."

He grinned, giving me a hug. "Well, I'll thank you for saving my daughter twice in a row."

Hank: friend^

A/N: Now it's time to decide, is Kamski really a bad guy or a good guy? I say he's neutral. He Did want to kill Puma but he'll give her back her friend. Y'all still hanging in there? *obvious sarcasm* I know how worried you were when Connor pointed the gun at Lia, and you checked the rest of the chapters and thought to yourself "what's the rest of the story gonna be, a long-ass funeral?" at least that's what I saw when a character is about to die but they're loads of chapters ahead.
