~Y/n pov~

It had been a few weeks since I had last seen Zenitsu.

I had got my blade and it turned light blue.

The person who made the sword was quite weird but he was surprised to see a sword light blue.

Apparently he had seen blue but never light blue.

I went on my first mission already and I was heading on my next. The crows voice was slightly annoying but I'd just have to deal with it.

I noticed a certain blonde haired boy hugging another boys waist.

That's the dude from final selection who was wearing a cloud haori.

He had on a black and green checkered haori now.

"Zenitsu?" I asked.

He quickly clung onto my waist.

"I'm so weak. I don't wanna die." He cried.

I gently patted his head.

"Eh? You're the girl from final selection."

I looked up to see the other boy looking at me.

"Yeah, my name is Y/n L/n."

"I'm Tanjiro Kamado. Nice to meet you." He smiled.

I noticed a box on his bag.

There was a scraping noise coming from the box.

A demon? If I was anyone ordinary I wouldn't of heard that.

I think Zenitsu heard it too.

"C'mon Zenitsu, get up."

I grabbed his hand and pulled him up.

There were tears building in his eyes as he sniffled.

"I told you we'd meet each other again very soon." I smiled.

He nodded, wiping the tears from his eyes.

"I'm assuming we're heading to the same location." I said to Tanjiro.

He nodded, "We should go."

We started walking towards along the path.

Zenitsu was walking so close to me I could feel his breath hitting my ear.

I hear his stomach rumble softly.

"Are you hungry?" I asked.

He jumped in shock, "Ah...no, I'm fine."

I furrowed my brows, "Don't lie."

Reaching into my pocket, I handed him a rice ball.

"Thanks." He muttered, happily munching away at it.

"I get what you mean when you say you're scared of demons," Tanjiro told Zenitsu, "but you can't stir up trouble for your sparrow."

"Was the sparrow distressed?" Zenitsu asked, confused, "How can you tell?"

"Well, he says that you're always whining about not wanting to go to work, and you're always hitting on girls, and that you snore loudly. He's had it!" Tanjiro replied, "That's what he told me."

"He did?" Zenitsu exclaimed, "You can understand what he's saying?"

"Start running!" Our crows cawed.

"Guess we should go." I told them, picking up my pace.

Tanjiro ran beside me.

"C'mon Zenitsu. Stop slowing down." Tanjiro told him.

"But I'm tired." He huffed.

We had started walking and were now in a forest. We have to get there fast.

"We're not gonna make it." Zenitsu complained.

I sighed.

"We don't have time for this let's get going." I told them.

Tanjiro gave me a determined nod.

Zenitsu still moped behind us.

I slowed down to walk near him.

Quickly, I scooped him up and placed him on my back.

"Okay. Let's go."

"What are you doing?" Zenitsu yelped, leaning forward and wrapping his arms around my neck loosely.

"We're getting there faster." I replied.

I ran to catch up with Tanjiro.

Zenitsu leant forward more and buried his face into my neck.

Tanjiro suddenly stopped, "I can smell blood. But this particular scent..."

I stopped. I couldn't smell anything.

However, I could hear what sounded like a drum.

"Is that a drum?" I asked, "I can't smell blood, though."

"Is that what that noise is?" Zenitsu asked.

"Sound?" Tanjiro asked.

He then turned his attention to the two children nearby.

I could hear them shaking in fear.

Since we had stopped, I decided to place Zenitsu down.

He stumbled slightly, having not used his legs for a while.

"That smell. Could it of been that of a demon?" I asked Tanjiro, "Is it possible that those children managed to escape from it?"

Tanjiro hummed, "Maybe."

He slowly approached the children, trying not to startle them.

"Look a sparrow." He held out Zenitsu's sparrow.

They visibly calmed down.

I walked over to them and knelt down beside them, "Can you tell me what happened?"

"Our brother.." the boy trembled.

"Calm down. What happened to your brother?"

"He..." the boy sniffled, "He was taken into that house by a monster."

I nodded, "Stay here. Your brother will be just fine."

The drumming noise was getting louder.

Tanjiro placed his box down, "Look after this for me."

"What's this drumming noise? It's getting louder." Zenitsu told us.

"Yeah it is." I agreed, "It's coming from the house. Maybe it has something to do with the demon's ability."

It was clear Tanjiro couldn't hear anything.

The drumming got louder and louder and louder.

"Ah, I hear it." Tanjiro exclaimed.

A body suddenly flew out of one of the windows. It was bloody.

A pool of blood surrounded the body as it crashed to the floor.

"Are you alright?" Tanjiro yelled running towards him.

I knew it was pointless. He was already dead.

I couldn't hear his heartbeat anymore.

Was that their brother?

"Was that your brother?" I asked them.

They both shook their heads.

The children were trembling in fear.

"He's wearing persimmon-coloured kimono."

"We'll find him don't worry." I told them and headed in the direction of the house.

Tanjiro nodded, walking after me.

Zenitsu followed behind us, trembling.

"It'll be okay." I told him.

He nodded unsurely.

We walking into the house.

Tanjiro went into a room and then the door disappeared.

We had been separated.

"Tanjiro?" I asked.

He couldn't hear me.

I could hear the rooms sliding around. It was very distracting.

"I'm gonna die." Zenitsu yelled.

"Calm down." I told him, kneeling beside him.

"But I can't. I'm gonna die."

"I won't let anyone die as long as I'm alive. So don't worry."

"Y/n..." Zenitsu sniffled and clung onto me, sitting on my lap, "Please protect me."

"I can't protect you if you sit on me."

He quickly jumped back.

I stood up, brushing some dirt off my knees, "Let's look for Tanjiro."

I felt someone clinging to my sleeve.

I tilted my head and noticed Zenitsu walked closely to me.

The boy from outside was also behind us.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"My sister..."

I sighed, "Okay let's go. By the way what's your name?"

"Shoichi." He told me.

Zenitsu slid open the door he thought was the exit and yelled in shock when it wasn't.

"Haven't you noticed?" I asked him, "The whole building has been shifting around. It has something to do with those drum noises. I'm sure Tanjiro is fighting the demon right now."

Zenitsu opened another door and there stood a man wearing a boar head.

The blonde haired boy let out a scream.

The boar headed man turned his head towards us and suddenly charged towards us.

What was he doing?

I slammed the door shut and continued walking.

"Let's pretend we didn't see that." I stated.

"But we did!" Zenitsu yelled.

"No we didn't. What are you talking about?" Shoichi smiled.

I nodded, "That's the spirit. Anyway, we should continue to look for your siblings."

We walked aimlessly around the corridor.

Zenitsu kept yelling.

"If you don't want a demon to come after us I suggest you stay quiet." I told him.

He whimpered and clung onto my arm, pressing his body into my side.

Shoichi stood on my other side, holding my hand.

We walked forward at a slow pace.

I paused after hearing something moving towards us.

A demon?

I didn't want to startled Zenitsu and make him yell so I calmly walked into one of the rooms.

"A demon is coming?" I told them.

Zenitsu shrieked.

The door opened and in crawled a demon.

We stood at the back of the room.

I pulled my sword out of its sheath and got ready for it to attack.

The scared boy fell asleep.

Is it gonna be a repeat of what happened in the final selection?

My guess was right as the sleeping Zenitsu stood up.

Thunder breathing first form: Thunderclap and flash

He easily took the demon out.

And just like that, he woke up.

"Eh? Did you save me Y/n?" He clung to me crying.

"Uhh no you.."

"Thank you so much. I thought we we're gonna die." Zenitsu yelled.

Shoichi stood there, staring in shock.

I decided to just move on.

"Tanjiro has probably defeated the other demon that was in here." I told them, "Let's look for the exit."

Zenitsu nodded.

Shoichi trailed behind me as I started walking off.

"Wait for me." Zenitsu yelled, quickly running to catch up with us.

He immediately latched onto me, walking slowly beside me.

The boy was shaking and tears were running down his cheeks.

I gently wiped the tears off my face.

Zenitsu jumped and his cheeks turned red.

"Are my siblings okay?" Shoichi asked.

"Yeah. I'm sure Tanjiro found them." I told him to reassure him.

We did eventually find the exit.

"The exit." Zenitsu sighed in relief.

I noticed the box on the ground, unguarded.

The demon inside there must be important if Tanjironis carrying them around.

I walked over to it and sat beside it.

Shoichi sat a bit away from it. I think he was cautious as he didn't know what was in the box.

"That wasn't so hard was it Zenitsu?" I asked.

"I'm not going back in." He stated.

"Of course not. You've got to understand you're not weak. You took down that demon y'know." I told him.

"Huh? I did... no you're lying."

"No you definitely did. I'm not lying."

There was a small before Zenitsu nodded to himself.

"It's true... she's not lying. I would be able to hear it if she was lying."

I don't think he intended anyone to hear that but I did so too bad.

I could still hear Tanjiro fighting.

The two siblings had been reunited though.

And I knew that Tanjiro would protect them and defeat the demon.

It'll all be okay.

Thought I'm not sure what exactly that boar headed man was up to.

He's part of the demon slayer corps.. right?

I didn't see him at final selection though so maybe he is a higher rank than we are or something.
