****Lyra's P.O.V.****
The next day, both Sarah and Fred were devastated. Fred had just found out what had happened, after Lee and Angelina walked into their common room, hand in hand. We weren't necessarily angry that they were together, more that they had left their dates without an explanation.
Since it was Saturday, they both just sat on the couch in the common room, staring into nothingness. I spent that day glaring at the happy couple. They broke both my brother's, and my cousin's heart.
****
Later that night, I walked into the Gryffindor common room with Harry, as we were studying together, to see Sarah open mouthed, tears streaming down her face, and staring at the coffee table to her left. It was Angelina and Lee, snogging over the chess board. I could feel my eyes starting to glow as my hand caught on fire. The fire was inching its way up my legs, over my arms, and up to my neck. Soon, I was engulfed in fire.
I guess they could feel the heat radiating off of me, because the broke apart and looked at me, horrified. Don't hurt anyone, don't burn the furniture. I thought. That was just how I controlled it. (Yes, I'm aware that that's really weird.)
The fire was just meant to be intimidating. At the moment, I didn't care that they were terrified of me, or that everyone else in the room was, too, because I was pretty busy. Papers were flying everywhere, I was on fire, and wall of water was surrounding the maim part of the common room.
Angelina ran over to the water wall and started trying to splash it on me. I just grimaced, and shut down my elements, anyways. "OI! EVERYONE WHO ISN'T ANGELINA, LEE, FRED, SARAH, OR ME, LEAVE! Oh, and Harry, I guess you can stay, to," They did as told, "Angelina, I have always considered you my friend. I have nothing against you, and I knew that the fire wouldn't hurt you, I just wish you would've let Sarah and Fred know. They're family, and they mean a lot to me." I said, emphasizing every word.
"I know, and I'm really sorry, you're right. I'm not saying that I'll break up with Lee, but I really, truly, am sorry." She said with a small smile.
"It's alright, but I do have a favor to ask you." I said
"Sure, what?" She looked at me cautiously.
"Can you not snog around Sarah? I think it really affects her..." I trailed off.
She blushed, but smiled anyways, "Sure," During that time, Sarah and Fred had migrated upstairs, as had Lee, and Angelina left soon after.
I linked arms with Harry, willing myself not to blush, "Well, we still have to study, don't we?" I added after seeing his confused look.
He chucked and rolled his eyes, smiling, "Sure, Ly. Pretend you didn't just light the common room on fire. Oh, and shouldn't you talk you Dumbledore about that?" He raised an eyebrow
"Oh, yeah. You wanna come with?" I asked. He nodded, so we walked down to the gargoyle I was crying by, me looking at him questioningly.
"This is the entrance to his office, Ly." He smiled. "Acid Pops."
I was about to question him, when the gargoyle popped open. We walked up the winding set of stairs, and Harry knocked on the door.
"Come in." I heard the voice of our Headmaster say. "Ah, Miss Archer, I thought I'd see you soon. And Mr. Potter?"
"Uh, yes sir. I came here to ask you if you knew anything about my 'powers'?" I asked skeptically.
"Yes, I do," face looked grave, "Now, what I am about to tell you is a bit. . . confidential. Is it okay for Mr. Potter to be here?"
"Yes." I replied confidently. Harry smiled at me.
"Well, there was an ancient race of wizards who could control the elements. They were called thành phân, more commonly known as Spotters. The power was only known in wizards, not witches or muggles, until now. I believe you are the first female Spotter, Miss Archer. The Spotters could control all the elements, but all of them had a strongest element. That element, which could either be fire, water, wind, earth, or shadow, was most similar to their personality. I'll have to ask Mr. Potter which he thinks you have. Mr. Potter?"
"Er, well, Lyra uses fire a lot when she's angry..." He trailed off.
"Yes, Mr. Potter, but which is she most like? For example, a fire Spotter would be blunt, brave, and confident. A water Spotter would be small, but powerful, nonetheless. A wind Spotter may be light, graceful, and coordinated," at this Harry snickered. He knew I wasn't at all coordinated. I just glared, "An earth Spotter will always be there for you, but will bottle everything up until he, or in this case, she, explodes. And lastly, a shadow Spotter is a bit of all of the above. They can be brave, powerful, graceful, and loyal. So, Mr. Potter, which element?"
"Shadow," he said automatically, "she's brave, braver than some Gryffindors, and, when she needs to be, graceful. She's so extremely loyal, she'll stick with us no matter what, and definitely powerful. She might not be smarter than Hermione, but won't give up until she figures something out." He said all of this with a smile, not taking his eyes off of me.
"Curious, the prophecy..." He muttered, "Miss Archer, do you mind if I try something?" I nodded, so he walked over to grab a familiar old hat.
"Sir, if you don't mind me asking, why are you bringing out the Sorting Hat?" Harry asked, a look of confusion on his face.
"Well, Mr. Potter, I think that Miss Archer may need to be re-sorted." I looked at Harry, eyes wide, and walked up to the stool. Once I sat down, I heard the familiar voice fill my head.
Ah, Miss Archer. Re-sorting already? Well, yes, you have changed. More ambitious, yes. As well as your bravery and loyalty have increased. You truly are a powerful thàn phân. There is a house-change in order. I think you need to be a TRI-HOUSE!
"TRI-house? W-what three houses?" I stuttered.
Dumbledore spoke to the Hat quietly. "Well, Miss Archer, the Sorting Hat deemed you perfect for Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin, you will be alerted to the passwords and locations of the latter two. Good day." He said, smiling.
I just realized that Dumbledore had asked Harry leave halfway through the sorting. I walked outside to see him standing there nervously. "So? What happened? Which house are you in?" He asked
"Well, I have good news and bad news." I said, thinking of a way to word it.
"Well, what's the good news?" He looked at me questioningly.
"Well, I'm in Gryffindor." I said.
"And the bad news?"
"I'm also in Hufflepuff."
"And...? I thought you loved Hufflepuff. Is there something else?" He said cautiously
"I'm, uh, I'm also in Slytherin." I said, my shoes suddenly looking very interesting.
He put his finger under my chin and lifted my face up. I winced, waiting for his reaction. "Hey, It's okay. I don't care if you're part Slytherin. They're lucky to have you, and I'm sure Mione and Hannah won't mind. Sarah will be ecstatic to have her cousin with her. Plus, look at the bright side, you're also in Gryffindor, they love you there."
I smiled, and he led me back to the Gryffindor common room, his hand in mine. Hermione met us at the portrait hole, and I gave her a tell-you-in-a-minute look, to which she nodded.
Once we got in, Harry called Ron in, and I explained everything. Hermione smiled, but left with an 'Oh!', probably to the library.
Ron backed away, to the other side of the couch, a look of disgust painted on his face. "Get away from me, you filthy Slytherin!" He said, spitting out the final word with hatred. I got up, tears in my eyes, and ran as far away from there as I could. I decided to try my shadow Spotter abilities. I stood in one of the shadows, and, to my amazement, I blended into the shadows.
I heard a man coming by, so I stood up and followed the shadows. I heard someone next to me, looking directly at me. "Can you see-" I started
"Yeah, you a Spotter, too? What's your element?" Sarah asked
"Shadow, you?" I responded
"Fire." I nodded. We continued to follow the strange man, and he reached the portrait hole. I realized that I must've been out for a while, it was dinner time. "Ly... Ly, that's Sirius Black-" I covered her mouth so he wouldn't notice us.
He seemed to be having a conversation with the Fat Lady, who just crossed her arms and shook her head, ignoring the fact that he was growing more frustrated.
Right when he was about to attack her, he had transformed into a dog. I stepped out of the shadow, dragging Sarah with me. "STOP!" I screamed.
He turned towards Sarah, and his eyes softened. "S-Sarah? Is that you?"
I noticed that Sarah had tears in her eyes, she nodded. "Daddy?"
"DAD?! He's your dad?" I asked, speaking softly on the last part. She nodded, dragged us behind a tapestry and put up a silencing charm.
"Lyra, this is my dad. Dad, this is my friend, Lyra. Ly, please, if you trust me on nothing else, trust me on this, he's innocent. I'll tell you more later, but-" She was cut of by her father
"Lyra?! Your name is Lyra? Sarah, how long have you known her?" He asked, looking at me with wide eyes.
"Um, we were dropped off together at the orphanage, we just assumed we were related. We always said we were cousins, why?" Sarah said, as her father's eyes widened.
"Because I had a brother. He worked for Voldemort for a few years, then he tried to back out. He was killed. I knew he had a child, a beautiful baby girl, as he was my brother. His name was Regulas, his wife's name was Naomi Morgans. Him, being a traditional Black, named his child after either a constellation or a star. I wasn't, however a traditional Black. I was sorted into Gryffindor, and became the rebel Black. I met your mother, Sarah, in my third year. Me being me, I refused to follow Black traditions, and named my child Sarah. Oh, by the way what house are you in?" He said
"Slytherin. But, trust me, I don't to all that pureblood stuff, I'm just ambitious." Sarah smiled.
I fidgeted a bit, Sarah looked at me questioningly, probably because I didn't have a chance to tell her about my re-sorting.
"That's kind of complicated. In the beginning of this year, I was sorted into Hufflepuff, but I still stayed in touch with my Gryffindor friends. Dumbledore sorted me again, though, about an hour ago. I was sorted into three houses," I said, not taking my eyes off my shoes.
"Wait, really? Which three?" He looked shocked
"Um, yeah. Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin," I said awkwardly.
"Cool. Look, I have to go, Sarah, tell Lyra what happened, what really happened," Sarah nodded, and he ran off, not bothering to change into his dog form.
Sarah looked at me, panicked, when a first year screamed, "SIRIUS BLACK!" Thanks, kid, seriously. I grabbed Sarah's wrist, dragging her into the shadows. I dragged her to the Great Hall, and stepped out, so to not draw any attention to ourselves. I walked to the Gryffindor table, and sat by a very confused Harry, ignoring Ron.
"Attention, students, as you all have probably heard, Sirius Black has been spotted in the castle, not a hour ago. We shall be spending the night here, so as to allow for the staff to search the castle. Oh, you'll also be needing these." With a flick of his wand, squashy, purple, sleeping bags appeared, covering the Hall's floor. I'm sure Harry stayed up, however, I was exhausted.
I fell asleep between Hannah and Harry, feeling completely safe.
