*Three years before*

Izuku and Katsuki were sitting at an island countertop. The room is dimly lit. It was pitch black outside, the snow glistening from street lights tinted orange. The window was wet with melted snow and cold to the touch. The two were stressed and tired as they sat in silence. It was so quiet you could hear the cracks in the walls. "I don't know if I can keep seeing you do this to yourself," Katsuki said, his voice hoarse. Izuku looked at him with a clear expression of pain. His lips slightly quivered and his adams apple bobbed with the lump in his throat. "I can't count how many times you've almost died because you didn't think your life was important."
Izuku couldn't speak. He wanted to yell and scream and cry. But he was stuck in this limbo state of all those things without being able to express them. "I'm sorry," Izuku apologized.
"You can't apologize if you're dead."
"Well I'm not!"
"You could have been!" Katsuki exclaimed. Izuku felt his tears start to fill to the brim.
"What do you want from me?" Izuku pleaded.
"I want you to live! Deku, I want you to survive. I don't want to wake up one morning and find out you're fuckin' gone. Or fight alongside you and see that you're somewhere on the battlefield not moving! I've fucked up a lot. And I've hurt you many times. But why is it my fault for waiting for you to be safe?!" Katsuki questioned. His voice cracked at the end, his hand ran through his hair. He sighed heavily as he let his eyes close. "Why don't you care about your life? Everyone else knows when to take a step back, but you... you purposely take steps forward and cross the line between life and death. Somehow, you end up just barely alive because you take too many risks."
Izuku didn't want to hear any of what Katsuki said because he knew he was right. "I understand–"
"No, I don't think you do understand!" Katsuki takes a shaky breath. "I don't think this is working."
Izuku looked at Katsuki suddenly. His face fell. "Us? You mean us?" Katsuki looked at Izuku but didn't say anything. He bit his cheek and looked away. Izuku licked his lips and signed. "You know what? Maybe you're right."
Katsuki sighed and got up. "I guess uhh, I'll get my stuff."
Izuku watched as Katsuki got up and walked towards their bedroom. His heart started racing and the tears started streaming. It wasn't loud. It was as silent as the house was. His tears fell like snow during these winter months. All Izuku could do was sit there. He sat and thought about all the things he could do, but he couldn't think of anything that would help alleviate the situation. Katsuki walked back with his luggage. He was so quick with it some would assume he already had bags packed. He stood in the entryway of the hallway that leads to the other rooms. He leaned against the wall, arms crossed as his biceps flexed in his black turtleneck sweater.
"Izuku..." Izuku hiccuped and covered his mouth. Katsuki felt horrible. He wasn't trying to punish him, but he knew if they kept going like this things wouldn't turn out well. Izuku got up and wiped his tear stained hands on his pants. Katsuki walked over and hesitated to touch Izuku's shoulder. Izuku turned around and grabbed one of Katsuki's hands. Katsuki gently pulled Izuku in and they embraced heavily. Izuku couldn't get enough of Katsuki's smell. He was so familiar he'd be able to tell which person was Katsuki in a room full of people. Katsuki broke away from Izuku and kissed his forehead. He solemnly walked over to grab the rest of his bags and walked out of the house without looking back. Izuku broke down. He put his hand over his chest and sat on the floor. He was hyperventilating and wishing he could fix his mistakes. However, he can't. He's too self sacrificing and sometimes that's good. But other times it's what can destroy someone. Izuku dragged himself to the bedroom and crawled into bed. One lamp on the bedside table glimmered in the pastel blue painted room. Izuku found himself looking at a framed picture of the two when they went to the beach. Katsuki was giving Izuku a piggy-back ride until Kirishima managed to get a picture of the two. Izuku cried more and turned his lamp light off. The window was cracked and the moon was full as it shone through the sliver of curtain. The band on his finger glittered for a moment and Izuku took the ring off, and set it safely in the bedside table drawer.
Bakugo was walking to his red car. He set his luggage in the trunk and some bags in the back. He licked his lips and just sat in his cold car for a moment. He took his phone out and called Eijiro Kirishima.

Izuku woke up and found Katsuki sleeping. He smiles and caresses his hair and sighs. In this moment, Izuku decided that he wanted to give them a second chance. He couldn't miss this opportunity, and he was more confident than he'd ever been. They always communicated, but they didn't always comprehend the others intentions. Though now it's been enough time for him to think it over.
