Days
I wake up, every morning
Drag myself out of bed
See the same grey sky as every morning
See the same grey clouds
I pull on the same uniform
Eat the same breakfast
Walk the same roads
Sit at the same bus stop
Every day the same people
Each day timetabled
All the same conversations
All the same stories told
All the people blank faced, heads down
All the people blank eyed, gazing down
Identical suits and ties and cases
Talking all day, but saying nothing at all, nothing at all
And most days I wonder
If there's more to life than this
Or if I'll spend all the rest of my own forever
Telling the same story as yesterday
Speaking all the words everyone speaks - every day
Saying all the lines everyone says - every day
Doing all the things everyone does - every day
Learning all the things everyone knows - every single day
And each day, each night, the newest old blank grey sky
Never a single sunrise or any sunset to be seen here
And maybe it never gets fully dark, midnight shadows
But only darkness holds the stars.
