The Mistress

"I don't know, Bear. Science is kinda...boredom inducing" She punctuated this with that sweet laugh that at once gave away the speaker's identity.

The two of them were standing in the main room of Star Labs, late Tuesday everyone had already left:
Her Father, who was a father once again, barely had time to say goodbye nor could he contain the pent up excitement.

Barry and Iris teased him for all it was worth.

Cisco and Harry were on a little mission, all because Harry had a new gf. Which in itself was a miracle. Ralph had really outdone himself roasting Harry. Cisco did a poor job reigning him in, as it were.

Leaving the resident neurological science expert slash quasi-villian Dr Caitlin Snow to accompany them. Though "accompany" went too far in that sense.

Hearing Iris West-Allen comment to her husband, Caitlin couldn't help herself saying:
" Excuuuse me, Iris, but I happen to be a subject on the matter and so I beg to differ".

Caitlin wore a mock insulted expression, looking over at where the two newlyweds were standing; before the mannequin that holds the suit that Barry was still wearing.

Iris, now smiling with a 'o' shaped mouth, had a strange multilayered expression in her eyes. She'd meant to mock only her, MD Caitlin Snow, with her statement. And her eyes now spoke of triumph.

Caitlin feeling weird and funny from this strange dynamic, averted her eyes back to the computer where she was seated and partly his herself from Iris' line of sight.

"I agree with Dr Snow," Barry teasing told Iris, "like this for example-"
- At this he kissed Iris.

What came over Caitlin next baffled her and would for many days thereafter too:
She rose very abruptly, her action putting halt to the couples intimacy.

Before heading out she challenged: "What I have to offer is much more interesting than even that" this was said innocuously before turning away and exiting.

Barry, surprised for the moment, half pout/frowned and then turning to His wife said: "That was def a weird thing to say..right" he laughed at the end and now Iris giggled too, both empathetically embarrassed for their friend's out burst.

"Come on, let's... pick up a pizza, visit Joe, Check on Cisco n Harry then go home. How does that sound?" Barry asked.
"Mm-well...impossible. Not even The Fla-"
-With countless volts dancing in his eyes and lightning filling the entire room Barry kissed her, changed out of his suit and went about restoring his wife's faith in The Flash.

In the Storeroom, not Caitlin but Killer Frost was leaning on the counter and shelves housing most of Cisco's mechanical gadgetry and parts. Donning her favourite outfit, she was smiling knowingly.

Unlike Caitlin who was far too innocent, she knew exactly what "West", as she liked to call her, was up to.

"Two can play that game my princess," she said to no one in particular. Confidently she strode out the room, hands wrapped in swirling cold vapours.

As soon as the next day, after an uneventful eight hours, Caitlin quietly asked Iris to assist her in the med bay. A routine request. With only the two of them in the lab, Iris slung her arm over Caitlin's shoulder, while they walked. Caitlin jumped at the contact. Iris enjoying the other woman's discomfort, sofly asked:
"Is this what is /so/ much more interesting than my husband kissing me, hmm?" She smiled gazing pointedly at the scientist.

Caitlin stammered a half baked reply about "seeing for one self" and "science is unequalled in complexity" all the while looking down and just generally avoiding her gaze. Iris was amused. But also unusually excited. There was Barry adorable awkwardness then there was ...Dr Snow.  It was the age old tension between the sexes now strung taught between these two women who shared a gender.

Like two poles on the opposite ends of the magnetic scale pushing away they were a magnetic force sharing the same directional force. They could only pull towards one another, never away. Mutual attraction.
Having reached their destination, inside the temperature controlled room, the two halted.

Iris reluctantly gave way, the contact had fed a strange abyss which she couldn't pinpoint exactly. Sighing she watched Caitlin stretch on a pair of gloves and remove a tray of blood samples, handing these to her. The dark vials gleamed under the cleverly lit room's lighting. Iris took these an placed them on a counter a few steps away. These were metahuman blood samples, Caitlin had wanted to relocate them this afternoon and then finally take inventory of the stock.

They worked in silence. Iris admired the deftness with which Caitlin worked. Caitlin, felt for sure disaster could strike at any given moment. She'd taken for granted the security that came with having the full team in the lab, relieving the interpersonal strain. Now though, working with Iris like this took on a whole new meaning.

She was a nervous wreck. Stuttering, and mixing up relatively simple things. Like saying "hand me that apparatus please" then "oh my god I'm so sorry, I meant /that/ one,  haha"
Iris wasn't making things any easier:
bumping into her every now n then, leaning /really/ close to watch.  Weird compliments. Weirder ogling. And the double meanings of words exchanged...

Finally having finished up, Iris said:
" Hooo ! That's science for ya! Listen, um, I'm gonna grab some dinner for Barry would you like to pick up something too, Doc?

The word "Doc" made her heart jump for some silly reason but she answered immediately:
" Yes! Er, that would be nice. Errm, the company, I mean. Would be nice."
Iris had a mind to say that Caitlin's lab coat beautifully highlighted her hair, also those eyes..

Slowly walking to the elevator, Caitlin was going on and on about science trying to save face for her lack of elaboration from earlier.
Suddenly, inside the elevator, Iris decided to save her colleague and said "Hey, Doc, dont bother trying to simplify science for me. You saw with your own eyes what excites me really..."

She'd back her into the corner and with one hand next to and above her head she was dangerously close. Iris was tired of the games. Besides, she wanted her, that much was clear, there really was no need to skirt around the obvious.

Caught both by surprise and the ding of the opening elevator doors, Caitlin was at a loss of words.

Then KF "stepped in". Transforming before Iris eyes, Killer Frost smiled, knowing that she now had the upper hand and said, "hold my hand." Of course Iris was too shocked to respond so KF just grabbed her waistline and shot out the main lab entrance.

Riding on ice, traveling at incredible speeds, KF took Iris straight to the Star Labs rooftop. The setting sun and Killer Frost absorption of any lingering cold amazed Iris with how it transformed the everyday atmosphere of the place to one of untold secrecy and intimacy. Having been let go, Iris turned around, Central City's magnificent panaromic views surrounding her, she gasped then laughed feeling exhilaration and surprise all in one.

"Is this exciting enough, Mrs West-Allen?" Killer Frost goaded her. Before Iris could retort, she continued, " You must forgive Caitlin slowness. These things don't come naturally to her. Like a woman coming onto oneself..." Killer Frost was talking and closing the distance between the two before stopping shy of bodily contact.

This close, she gazed searchingly into Iris' eyes before grabbing her both gently and demanding. They kissed.

The taught strung tension finally disappearing.  The last rays of sunlight framing the two lovers. The brilliant orange orb emphasized their dark silhouettes. Here unwatched by curious eyes, their mutual love unfurled freely and completely.
