Elsa's Pov

It was 3.15 pm and I am already rushing down the streets after school. To a place called "Topanga's".

"Mom!" I called as I entered the coffee house and the door bell chimed. The coffee house is lit with bright vintage lamps, with cute wooden tables and chairs scattered all the shop. There also stands a dark blue velvet couch near the windows.

"Darling! What a wonderful surprise!" Mom kept the cash from the previous customer into the cash register, came out of the counter and hugged me in her arms.

This is the coffee house that Mom own, which later was named after her.

"Hi, Mom. Does a daughter need a reason to visit her mother during work?" I pouted cheekily. "I just drop by to see how are you managing. Looks like business is doing fine here."

"It is. Do you want me to get you something? You sure do look like you need it."

"Actually, yes. A glass of lemonade would be perfect right now," I said with tired eyes.

"You think your mom can't handle this? Alright, dear. Lemonade coming right up!" She scurried to the counter.

"Thanks Mom!" I could barely open half of my eyelids. Must be because of activities going on in school just now.

"Hi there, Kate!" I waved across the room to where she stood. Kate is our neighbour, and also happens to be a waitress that Mom hired for the coffee house.

By right, I should be calling her " Miss Marshall", but she insisted to be called as her first name instead.

"Hey, little girl!" She walked to me.

Who else here still calls a fifteen, soon sixteen year old teen "little girl"? And frankly, we've meet each other at least five times since we had first moved here. Really? Little?

"Did you forget me already? We just met each other yesterday." I asked calmly.

"Really? I'm very sorry I'm not good at remembering stuff. Could you remind me your name again?"

"I'm Elsa..."

"Oh yeah, Mrs Tilden's daughter. How could I forget this little angel!" She smiled.

Sometimes I'm still viewed as a young child.

Then she looked away. "Oh, looks like I've got some company at the counter, sorry darling. I gotta go." I saw a customer waiting at the counter for the bills. "It's nice meeting you again, Elsa!" She look one last glance at me and went back to her work.

"Hey, sorry it took so long. Here you go." Mom came back with two glasses of lemonade and pass a glass to me.

"No worries. Kate had me entertained." I faked a smile at the boss of this coffee house.

"Kate? Oh, I didn't expected she would remember you!" She sounded surprised.

"Mom..." I asked uncomfortably," Are you sure Kate working here is a good idea? I mean: look at her; she can't even get my name right. I can't even imagine her being a waitress."

"Darling, you must have faith in people. Don't you think they should deserve a chance?"

"But Mom. What if she got an order wrong? Or worse: endanger the reputation of this shop! Mom, you have worked so hard for this. What if..."

"Darling, calm yourself. Do you even heard what you said just now? I have faith in her, can't you?"

"But Mom..."

"Remember Mexico? If I were to fire her right now on her second day of work, I would be as cruel as the people who came looking for you, wanting to 'destroy' you for." Then she whispered, looking at my covered hands," for you know what."

I flinched at the mention of my past. What happened in Mexico was what I wanted to forget desperately. Forget about the horrible mistakes I have made. Mom clearly knows about it, yet she is speaking about it again.

"Mom! We promised to not dwell of the past anymore!"

"I know we promised. But Elsa, think about it."

Her eyes positioned to mine. The eyes that I always find comfort and look upon. She held my hands and that gave me a sense of warmness. Hands of endless supply of help. Hands that were always beside me every single time when I needed it. She was the one who ended this frustrating war. The one who gave up on her previous job just so that we can move to L.A. The familiar pair of eyes made me gave up on my objection.

"Ok, fine. If you have faith in her, I might as well too."

"That's my grown up girl."
