23: Just One Ear-Piercing Day
Peter's POV
If there's something I've learnt about my friends in this short three years, is that my friend Mike is uniquely intelligent, and my other friend Liv, has especially great vocal range. Oh no, she definitely can't compare with Elsa's singing, but she could go from a monotone of A3 on her moody days, to a peaking G6 — a drastic three octaves.
Today was the one day where I experienced her highest note, unluckily.
"E! To the L! To the S and A! AHHHHHHHH!" Liv screamed when we saw Elsa after the auditions, backstage. "Did you hear me shouting from the audience???"
God, my eardrums almost can't take it anymore. Elsa emerged from the shadows and into the dim spotlight, revealing the lightly applied purple eye shadow and pink lipstick. "I guess I was too nervous to notice that, sorry Liv," she gave a sympathetic look.
"Tilden, not bad. You have impressed me more and more," I smirked after reviving my hearing back.
"Don't listen to him. You did amazing — blew us off our seats, literally!" Mike defended.
"My heart skipped a beat just before they announced your name," Liv laughed. "I can't wait to tell everyone that I have a best friend who came in first place!"
Elsa made a nervous chuckle. "Have you ever doubted me? Although, I almost never made it out alive."
All of us started at her in confusion before she took a breath and continued, "I had my guitar all ready and placed it on the guitar stand right before the auditions started. I went to retrieve my guitar just as Shelby was doing her auditions when I saw all my guitar strings were snapped. I almost cried, knowing that I had no way of fixing them back on time."
"Who...." Mike widened his eyes in horror.
"Turns out it was Shelby who was behind this. She went backstage after her audition to say her 'well wishes' to me..." Elsa added, smiling, "It's alright, though. I thought of singing another song that doesn't require a guitar."
"God, I hate that bitch," Liv chipped in."I mean, seriously. Hate her. I've always known she was a bitch, but she's outdone herself this time. Jealousy is so ugly."
"I mean... it already happened. There's no turning back." Mike said.
"But do you know what you can do? You have to report this matter to the teachers-in-charge. Sabotage is a big no no in this school." I gave my opinions.
"Peter's right. And after that, we've got your big day coming!"

Elsa's POV
"What big day?" Mike tilted his head.
I knew my best friend forever after too long to know exactly what she was referring too. Although, I personally think that 'big day' isn't really anything special.
"Silly me. I forgot to mention that Elsa's birthday is right around the corner!" Liv activated her sing-song voice.
It's true that my birthday was almost here. Even though my parents obviously never knew when my actual birthday was, they took the day when they found me on their doorstep as my birthday, November 20.
"Liv, how many times have I told you? It's just a birthday, happens every year. Nothing special." I shrugged.
"No, you didn't just say that! It's not just any birthday. It's your birthday. And the best part is, it's your sixteenth birthday! Who wouldn't want the best sweet sixteen!" She shrieked.
"Alright, alright. But you have to promise me: No. Surprises," I stated.
It's not that I don't like surprises. I like it, honestly. But the situation changes when the surprise is done by Liv. You see, since elementary school, Liv was labelled the 'party popper'. As the name suggests itself, she's always the person everyone goes to for party planning. (Liv's a Libra, what do you expect?) Liv thinks... out of the box. She would find absolutely everything to make something really a surprise and does it diligently. A good gesture if you ask me. But no, I stand by my words. No surprises.
