Before

Before

Keilar was looking out of the window in her hotel room. She had just checked in, and had already packed her bag for her flight tomorrow. She glanced at the Eiffel tower that was a little away from where she was sitting now. She needed to get pictures of it before she boarded her flight. So she grabbed her state-of-the-art camera, slung her bag on one shoulder, and rushed out of the hotel room to the reception.

She was now drinking a soda can that she got from a French vending machine, and chugged it down as she walked. Keilar was wearing a top hoodie in pink, black and grey. She was wearing black leggings beneath it with black sports shoes. Her dishevelled white-blond hair tied by the end bounced in every step. She was wearing earrings. They had a black pearl decored with a golden flower. Her grey-blue eyes twinkled with excitement as she clutched the camera in her hand.

Keilar had been waiting for a lot of time for this moment. She had this assignment given just the day before, and then get to her next flight. She was a photographer. Sure, she must be the youngest photographer of all time and sure, she may be too young and just 12 and supposed to be taking exams and not take flights every day to a different country but, this was her life. She had needed a job after her orphanage had kicked her out, and this job was the best for her. Plus, she didn't need to study to get this job. She knew that even though she can't study, it would be for the best.

Anyways, she got to the Eiffel Tower. She got photos of the tower, inside the tower, on top of the tower, even of the lift of the tower; and man she was exhausted! After that, she clicked some photos of the surroundings, and headed to the other monuments in Paris. She got material on the Louvre museum, the cathedral, and a nearby church. Lastly, she got to the Pont Alexandre III, a famous bridge across the Seine.

When Keilar got there, the first thing her eyes went on were the lanterns. Ornate lanterns lined both sides of the bridge. Keilar looked for the sun. When she found it, she saw that it had sank below the horizon.

Still plenty of time for my flight, I'll just waste my time here." thought Keilar. She took a few pictures of the bridge's lanterns and the bridge itself, then sat down to organize all her pictures nicely in a file. She marked it on a corner: "All of Paris" and thought that should suffice. She didn't even realize what the time was until she looked up was and saw that 30 minutes had passed already.

She neatly kept her file in her bag, slung the camera around her neck, and walked across the bridge. But then she felt a hot wave coming from the opposite direction and turned around. There was no one there. But she still walked in that direction. All she could hear was wind and a slight distortion in the air, like heat waves radiating off the ground. Which was strange, as there was no wind in the air. It was something. Something she couldn't see.

But feel.

Keilar had been able to feel another's feelings since she was ten. This had happened the day after she was humiliated by her own teacher about not scoring enough marks in a grade she didn't even care about. What she felt of all the students was: guilt. Guilt that was strong enough to make her run out of her classroom, crying. She obviously couldn't tell anybody about it because nobody in the right mind would believe her. So she hid it. Didn't show it. It became bearable later on; she could overcome the feeling. No problem. She used to pull pranks on the students who felt she was lower than them; especially the snarky ones. But once, a harmless prank got out of control and... she was kicked out. From the school and her orphanage. But that's her past. Focus on the future.

Keilar could feel a wave of emotions coming from the spot where the hot waves were coming from.

Pain.

Anguish.

Fear.

Anger.

She closed her eyes and focused on the sound of the wind. Then she heard voices coming from the exact same spot.

"Maybe I didn't make myself clear," A heavy voice said.

A blast.

"Stop, we'll cooperate. Just stop." said a girl's voice.

"Of course you'll cooperate. You have no choice." said the heavy voice.

Another blast.

What the hell?! What were those blasts?? And who's there? And what do they mean by 'we'?

"Get your hands off me!" the girl screamed.

"You!" A gasp. "I know you."

"You know nothing," the man growled.

"Stop playing around," another person said. "Get rid of the boy while I take the girl back to the keep."

And Keilar opened her eyes. She could still hear the voices over the sound, but there was no one there. Whoever were talking right now, they were doing something that was very much not in her business. Subconsciously, she walked to the spot with hot waves and almost gasped.

Keilar was standing in front of three figures cloaked in black, a blond girl, and a strawberry-blond hair boy who was currently unconscious. One of the figures were pointing a silver weapon at the boy. The girl looked about the same age as her, as did the boy. The girl had shoulder-length blond hair, with brown eyes. The boy had blue eyes, with strawberry-blond hair. One of the figures point the sliver weapon on Keilar's head.

"Who are you? How did you find us?" said the figure. Keilar realized that these guys must be some kind of goons, trying to attack innocent people. But how the heck were they not here a second ago?! Did she get teleported to another place? Is this some kind of Invisibility Cloak that's like in Harry Potter? Except really big? No, the biggest question is this.

How did she know she had to come here to find these people? She subconsciously pressed her camera's flash button, and took a picture with a very loud click.

"Answer the question." said another figure. Keilar took one glance at the two people on the floor; the boy and the girl, and then punched the figure in front of her, in the jaw without hesitation.

She then ducked; if she had hesitated the other figure would have shot her in the head. She sprinted low and then ran around. Keilar was fast. Fast and also had a fast reaction rate. She knew exactly what to do. But she had underestimated her opponents. Because the minute she lowered her guard, the third figure kicked and trapped Keilar inside a force field.

"Hmm... Looks like this isn't any ordinary human..." said the second figure.

And in that mode of confusion, the three figures suddenly dropped and the figures were slumped on the ground, holding their heads and writhing in pain. Keilar didn't get affected though. The force field released and Keilar ran to the girl, who ran to the boy.

The blond girl didn't notice Keilar rush beside the boy. Neither did she notice her clutching one hand to find his pulse. I can feel a weak pulse, but he's not too hurt.

The blonde girl fumbled through the heavyset figure's cloak and grabbed something out. She spun the crystal adoring it and locked it into place. "Hey, what are you doing?" asked Keilar, but it seemed like the girl did not notice her or heard her. Keilar felt a wave of pain and anxiety from the girl. She clutched her head with her other hand in pain. The fear coming out of the brown eye girl was hurting her, and if drenching Keilar in waves of misery.

Normally, she could block the strongest emotions like pain and fear. She has practiced this for a long time, so that she didn't have a breakdown because someone else was having one internally.

But these were much more defined waves, much stronger with emotion.

Then the girl flung the boy over her shoulder, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. Keilar felt an aura around the boy and caught the girl's cape on time. The blonde girl held the thing she had in her palm, straightened up and stepped into the light, letting it pull them away.

Before Keilar could shriek, "Fuck!", Keilar was pulled into the light with them. She felt a pain that hurt a lot, but she held on to the girl's cape, refusing to let the light beat her. The light was a force, pulling and pushing in so many different directions she couldn't tell if she'll be ripped apart or crushed. But Keilar didn't let the light take over her, and was relieved when the pain had faded away.
