While Austin and Rian made jokes about it, in many ways Devin really was Bri's bodyguard. Sure, sure they didn't have much of a fanbase yet, however, that didn't mean that men didn't have other... interests towards Bri. That's why he had always put himself to the task of protecting her as her best friend. 

Not that it was always easy... especially with the amount of guys who hit on her.

He remembered the first time that he had had to step in and play bodyguard for Bri. The two had been out at one of those clubs for teenagers. They had gotten to play a song or two, thanks to one of their friends who worked at the club, but they had finished quickly and, now, they were just getting some food and chatting. 

"Ya know, I think they actually liked us." Devin said cheerfully as he twirled his drumsticks around in his left hand. 

"You think?" Bri asked, raising an eyebrow as she continued to eat.

"Well we got applause instead of food thrown at us so I would think so!" Devin said cheerfully. 

"I suppose." She agreed though she didn't look as enthused about it. Then he asked. "So what's wrong?"

"Huh?" Bri asked, startled. 

"Usually you get excited about things like this." Bri was silent for a moment before she said. "I guess I just wish that we'd get bigger crowds than this."

"Hey, we'll get there! It'll just take time." Devin told her, pointing his drumsticks at her. "You just gotta have faith, trust, and most importantly-"

"Pixie dust?" Bri asked dryly. 

"Confidence." Devin said, changing what he was originally gonna say. "If we keep confidence in our skills, then there's no way that we'll fail, you hear me?"

Bri giggled and said. "I hear you."

Devin smiled at her to which she smiled back before they continued to eat. After a few minutes, Bri stood up and said. "I'm gonna run to the bathroom, don't eat my food."

He nodded and continued to eat. Five minutes ticked by... but Bri didn't return. He shrugged thinking maybe she was taking a bit longer than usual. His concern only grew, however, when she hadn't come back after another three minutes. She would never take that long. 

He got up and was about to go back and check on her when he heard her yell. "DEVIN!"

Instantly, he ran to the back of the club. There, he was met with the sight of a guy trying to kiss Bri, and it was clear from her demeanor that she, in no way, wanted him to kiss her. Seeing this, Devin saw nothing but red. He rushed up and kicked the guy in the side, knocking him away from Bri. 

Bri instantly hid behind Devin as Devin faced the man in a rage. 

"How dare you?" He growled. "That's not how you treat a lady!"

The guy rubbed his jaw as he asked. "And who are you? Her boyfriend?"

"Who I am is none of your concern, creep." Devin growled before saying. "But if you must know, I'm her best friend, who you just pissed off."

The man just scowled at him, making Devin growl once more. Then he felt a hand on his shoulder and he turned to look back at Bri. "He's not worth it, Devin, let's just go."

Devin glanced back at the guy before looking back at Bri and nodding. They paid for their food and left, not waiting around for any more creeps like that to show up. On the way home, Bri turned to Devin and told him. "Thanks for saving me back there."

"No problem, Bri, no problem." He smiled back at her. 

Yes, he was Bri's bandmate and best friend. But he was a d*mn protective best friend as well, which lined up with what Austin and Rian said about him being her bodyguard very much. Just as well, this way, he got to beat up anyone who hit on her without getting into too much trouble.
