Founded in 2003, the Supernatural Weapons and Ordinance Retrieval Division, or S.W.O.R.D., is a subdivision of the United States Department of Homeland Security. It specializes in the tracking, containing, and utilizing of the supernatural, extraterrestrial, paranormal, and Elseworldly.

Tracking:
The agency has a system of six highly advanced satellites and other equipment that enable them to detect high-energy pulses that are created through the use of magic, extraterrestrial technology, and breaches in space-time.

Containment:
With thousands of agents, most operating with North America and a few operating globally, S.W.O.R.D. is able to contain almost any threat to the planet. With the use of their combat training and aid of power inhibiting shock collars, the agents are able to detain supervillains, aliens, and dark mages with relative ease. As well as the use of supermax facilities to contain those that are captured.

Utilization:
Not all threats are truly threats. Statistics show that most (95.679%) of all Metahumans and Mages are benign, and just trying to make a good living. As a way to help integrate them into society and hone thier abilities, S.W.O.R.D. provides facilities for them to train alongside agents and members of the Justice League. These "new recruits" are then given the option of joining S.W.O.R.D. Most don't, and remain on a monitoring list. While those that do, are given the chance to use their talents to help S.W.O.R.D. keep the peace.

Destroy:
If any threat is deemed too dangerous or unstable, or is a threat to the entire planet by existence alone, the threat is destroyed. Throw any means necessary. Be it a bullet to the head, explosive naval artillery, or a nuclear detonation or direct kinetic energy impact (D-KEI [Pronounced DEE KEE]), the threat is to be eliminated without haste. Any. Losses. Are. Acceptable.
