Your throat went dry and you felt suffocated as you listened to your doctor speak. Your heart sunk as the information echoed in your head. It took you a while to respond to him and you left the place, feeling lost.

"I want the show," you told your brother who was going to host a grand concert which was happening the next night. He looked at you worriedly as he was not sure if it was a good idea. Knowing that look, you added, "Please."

He let out a sigh, "I will put you in the last slot."

"Thank you."

He gave you some time alone and you took a piece of paper out, along with a pen. You started with, 'Dear Love', and wondered how to continue without your tears falling to the table. You swallowed your saliva thickly and put on a sad smile as you wrote the words you had always told him and the words you had no choice but to tell him before it was too late. You signed off with, 'Your One and Only'.

You had a long distance relationship with your lover who stayed miles away from you. However, that did not affect the love between the two even one bit. You loved him as much as he loved you like the air only existed when you did.

You neatly placed the letter inside the envelope and put a stamp on it before heading to the post office.

The night of the concert came in a heartbeat and you sat in the waiting room, hoping the person you wanted to see for such a long time to come. It had been a really long time since the two of you had met.

Time was ticking and nerves were wrecking but you made sure to breathe in and out to keep yourself calm. You looked at yourself in the mirror and closed your eyes shut quickly. You slowly reopened your eyes again to see your own reflection perfectly and sighed in relief.

You heard the door being knocked and your brother came to call you as it was your turn. You stood up and headed to the doorway. He held your hand tightly.

"Are you really sure about this?"

You nodded your head and gave him a tight hug.

"Thank you for fulfilling my wish."

"No... it is an honour to have such a famous singer to be performing at my show."

"Oh please stop with the complements."

The two of you laughed and you headed to the stage.

You stood in the middle of the stage with millions of people seated in front of you. Everyone clapped excitedly as they noticed your presence. There were many people but you only searched for one. As you were scanning, the light shone directly at you and you had to close your eyes shut.

It took you a while to relax and open your eyes again. The band started playing the music and you sang softly at first. Your eyes were still all over the place as you tried to find if he was here. Your voice got louder and louder as you reached the chorus.

Everyone was mesmerised by your voice and you looked like you were sparkling with thousands spotlights shining at you. You stopped searching when you finally saw a man sitting with his eyes fixed on you and his lips parted like the first day you met him.

Memories started playing as you sang. The way you went from awkward strangers who tried their best to get comfortable to playful friends who always stayed together and lovers who couldn't wait to see each other, lovers who were patient even if they were miles apart and lovers who understood each other.

Your dulcet voice boomed across the room and you sang your heart out. Everything else getting blurry but you made sure to not be affected and just focused on singing while looking at him. You sang and sang as your eyes started to sting.

The band finished playing and it was silent. Darkness had taken over and you couldn't even see him anymore. You closed your eyes and felt tears staining your cheeks but you couldn't care as you sang the last part.

Thunder of applauses erupted and you knew you had received a standing ovation. You felt someone holding your hand.

"Shall we go back?" you heard your brother asked and you nodded in agreement.

You played with your fingers as you waited patiently. You heard the door clicked open and footsteps rushing in. Those steps halted before you and you knew who it was.

You looked up and smiled at him.

"It's been long, love."

He hugged you tightly as he couldn't bring himself to speak. You patted his back as he cried in the crook of your neck.

"I-I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you while you had to go through this."

"It's not your fault, love. Both of us knew distance had been a part of us. But look, you are here now."

"And it was too late."

You shook your head.

"It's never too late. I got to see you till the last minute at my last show."

"Love..."

You pulled him back slightly and reached to touch his face. You felt his eyes, nose and lips, trying to imagine how he looked like, how his smile was like and how his eyes would sparkle when he meets you.

"It doesn't matter if it is my last show. It doesn't matter if there are no millions of spotlights. It doesn't matter if I can't see the world anymore. Nothing is ever enough if you are not there with me but now you are and that means everything. Thank you for dropping everything and coming to me."

"Love, I would do anything for you."

"And that is why I love you. Forever?"

You felt his lips gently pressed against yours.

"It's a promise to be forever no matter what because I breathe for you."

Your lover tried his best to manage his work at your hometown because he wanted to stay by your side for the rest of his life. He managed to do so as he delegated some of his work to his close friend.

He ran his fingers through your hair and you knew he cried every night. You couldn't see his smile but you knew he had put on one when you were awake.

You stayed in his arms for a bit longer. Even though you had entered the darkness and you couldn't see the light anymore, him being beside you made you feel safer than seeing light and facing the world alone.
