Love to Last | {J.HS}
Nobody expected this to happen but tragedies were meant to happen when it was least considered. It was strange to stare at your lover in the room that connects the living and death. He looked rather shocked to see you at first but after a while, he had calmed down. He was used to guiding people to the journey of the afterlife. He was a grim reaper after all.
He held up the file which you expect contained the information about you. He closed his eyes and you knew he was trying his best to not show that he was affected. He was trying to be professional but emotions do take place even if one is a grim reaper, especially when the other is in a relationship with you.
"P-plane crash," he read out. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before continuing, "Five in the morning after finishing business to return back to Seoul."
"Hoseok?" you called him worriedly as he was lost in his train of thoughts.
"I'm fine, darling. Don't worry. I'll just read this later," he said as he placed the file aside. You noticed him holding his own hand to stop it from shaking. He stood up and so did you.
"We need to go through the memory lane and then you will probably reincarnate after you go through the door at the end of the lane."
You nodded your head as you listened to his explanation. The two of you headed to the door at the back of the room and entered after Hoseok opened it.
••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••
The place was dark at first until a few lights started flashing. At the side, you could see yourself as a baby giggling in your mother's arm as your father tries to make a funny face. You smiled at the memory and it vanished.
You moved on with the other images. The room was filled with collections of your memory as you grow up. You saw yourself getting injured after the first bicycle ride and crying your eyes out as your knees bled. Then, there was a birthday party with your friends which you celebrated happily with presents surrounding you. The memories vanished after you took note of them. It went on and your steps came to a halt.
You stared at the memory which showed the time when you first met Hoseok who moved into your neighbourhood all of a sudden. It was strange seeing him back then. He was always lingering around you and trying to make you laugh every time he had a chance. You didn't want that to vanish but Hoseok held your hand. You looked up to meet eyes with him.
"I'm fine," you smiled and took another step.
The memory vanished and was replaced with another.
It was the time when you first learnt that he was a grim reaper. You were at the hospital to get yourself some pills as you had been having trouble sleeping with all the headache you had been receiving from work. Hoseok was in a black outfit from head to toe and was on a duty to bring the old lady who had just passed away to her afterlife. He froze at his spot when he saw you and you still remembered how embarrassed he was when you told him that he was interesting and blurted out that he was cute.
You couldn't help but chuckle as you walked past the memory.
The memories were soon filled with the moments you spent with Hoseok. From the day you met to the day he confessed and finally-
You didn't wish to continue walking and the grip on your hand tightened. You glanced to find Hoseok biting down into his lip and forcing himself to not break down.
You inhaled deeply before looking at the memory of Hoseok proposing to you and you jumping into his arms as you said 'yes'. Your eyes then travelled to the rings on both of your fourth fingers.
"We were supposed to get married after I came back," you spoke softly.
Hoseok gulped down and nodded his head.
"We were."
Hoseok was trembling and he placed his head against your neck as he hugged you tightly. You felt his tears rolling down and you held your hand up to bring him closer.
"If only I knew the plane would crash, I would have asked you to shift the flight. I-I was really hoping that you wouldn't be included in the list of people who died in the incident. When your name was announced, I still couldn't believe it. I told myself it could've been the person with the same name as yours. I couldn't accept it until I met you today... here... in the place where I bring many other people to walk past their memories and guide them to their afterlife."
You nodded and looked up to stare at the memory repeating. The two of you smiling as you hugged.
"Hoseok."
He hummed and pulled back. Your eyes continued to be on his. The contact remained and you tiptoed to wrapped your arms around his neck. He leaned down and the two of you let your lips touch like magnets attract. He kissed you desperately as if he didn't wish to see you leave through that door. He held onto you and kissed you like there's no tomorrow. The kiss tasted salty as your tears escaped from your eyes and rolled down to your lips.
The two of you parted and you saw the memory vanished. It was then replaced with the two of you kissing just now.
You giggled and held your hand up to caress his cheek.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Well, I wanted to leave with a happy memory and I don't want that to be the last memory."
Hoseok placed his head against your forehead and chuckled.
"You can still laugh in such a situation."
"Well, my sunshine, we are a happy couple."
"We are."
The two of you kissed again and this time it was sweeter. Hoseok was pouring all of his love to you. You could still sense the desperation but you couldn't blame him. You were desperate as well. You smiled against the kiss.
"I love you, Hoseok."
Hoseok didn't need to reply. You already knew he felt the same. When the two of you parted, you stared into his dreamy eyes once again.
He reached to hold your hand and pulled you gently to the door that will bring you to the afterlife. The two of you stood in the doorway and exchanged smiles.
"I will wait for you like I've always."
"Again? You are going to wait for me like all those years that you've waited before?"
He nodded and planted a small kiss on your forehead, then your nose, then your cheek and finally onto your lips again. It was short and this one tasted like those happy times. It tasted like that bright sunny day where the two of you stood in the field of flowers. It tasted like that time when he first confessed to you or that time when you were drunk and he pampered you and showered you with kisses or that time when you accepted his proposal.
"No matter how many times I have to walk through this path with you and say goodbye, I will always wait for you because you will always be my first and last love."
