Chapter 26- Harry Potter Shows You The World
"Divination," I say, "is an actually joke."
"Why are you taking it again?" Draco asks. We where heading to magical creatures with his friends around us.
"Micheal made me," I say, "and I wanted something easy. And that wasn't Ancient Runes."
"I like the class," Crabbe says.
"Really?" I ask.
"Its not completely boring," He says.
"Well then," I say, "maybe I took the wrong one."
"What did they even have you do?" Blaise asks.
"Read tea leaves," I say. It was weird. Them talking to me. Acting like they gave a shit. I know it was purely from Draco telling them to act that way but still.
"Did you get a bad reading?" Draco asks.
"I got, a happy love life, jealous friends," I say, "and a loss of family member or serious illness."
"Well that got dark quick," Blaise says.
"Exactly," I say, "I mean. Can I really lose more of my family? I only have the one at this point. That would just be cruel."
"Its probably a bad reading," Draco assures, "like it was read wrong." He intertwines his hand with mine.
"You're so whipped," Blasie taunts.
"Say that again Zabaini and I'll have your head," Draco threatens.
"Whatever," Blaise groans. We edge closer to Hagrid's hut. I was a big ball of excitement at this point.
"That's it. Come on, now. Come closer. Less talking, if you don't mind," Hagrid calls out to the class, "I got a real treat for you today. A great lesson. So follow me." He waves us down a path until we reach a clearing. "Right, you lot. Less chattering. Form a group over there. And open your books to page 49."
"Exactly how do we do that?" Draco asks harshly.
"Just stroke the spine, of course," Hagrid says. I pull the book close to me and careful stroke the spine. It purs slightly and I look up at Draco.
"Got it?" I ask him. He nods his book now actually calm. Neville on the other hand was on the ground wrestling his.
"Don't be such a wimp, Longbottom," Draco mocks.
"I'm okay. Okay," Neville says. I let go on Draco's hand and walk up to Neville who had a large group of kids laughing at him. I carefully stroke the spine of his book and it calms down. I regroup with Draco and he was looking over at Hermione.
"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny. Witty," Draco mocks, "God, this place, has gone to the dogs. Wait until Father hears Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes."
"Draco please," I say. He looks at me and his face softens. For a split second it seemed like he would drop it.
"Shut up, Malfoy," Harry says.
"Woo ooh oh oh," The slytherins cheer quietly in surprise. Oh brother. Draco tosses his bag at me and I let it fall. I was not his lap dog. Crabbe picks it up and sits it on the rocks. A group was now crowding around them.
"Boys," I say, "come on this is stupid." They both ignore my comment and look as if they were about to fight. Until Draco points to the clear sky in fear.
"Dementor! Dementor!" He yells. Harry, who was deeply afraid of dementors, turns around in fear. Only to be met with the sound of cruel laughter. He turns back around to see Draco and the others pulling their hoods up.
"Ooooooooooo," The mock still laughing.
"Just ignore him," Hermione says pulling Harry away. Draco hangs him arm around me and I scoff.
"Come on love," He says, "harmless little fun."
"I'm going closer," I say. I walk up and he follows. His arm still around me. Hagrid clears his throat and looks proudly at us.
"Daa da da daa," He chants gesturing proudly to a creature, "Isn't he beautiful? Say hello to Buckbeak." It looked like an eagle crossed with like a horse. Or something. It was kinda pretty though. I must of been smiling big because Hagrid smiled back nodding. Loving that someone was enjoying it.
"Hagrid, exactly what is that?" Ron asks watching as Buckbeak devours a fish that Hagrid had tossed at it.
"That, Ron, is a hippogriff," Hagrid informs, "First thing you wanna know is they're very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a hippogriff. It may be the last thing you ever do." He looks around at his students, "Now, who'd like to come and say hello?" I wanted to really. And Draco must of sensed that. Resulting with Him clinging on to me tighter. Not letting me go. Everyone backs up except for the one the only.
Harry.
James.
Potter.
That stupid idiot best friend of mine.
"Well done, Harry. Well done," Hagrid praises, "Come on now." Ron pushes Harry forward. Harry excepting his fate slowly walks towards Buckbeak. "Now...you have to let him make the first move. It's only polite. So...step up. Give him a nice bow. Then you wait and see if he bows back. If he does, you can go and touch him. If not... Well, we'll get to that later. Just make your bow. Nice and low." Harry who was about 6 feet away from the creature stops. He slightly bows down. Buckbeak wasn't having it. He flaps his wings harshly and stomps.
"Back off, Harry. Back off," Hagrid warns. Harry slowly backs up. Stepping on a twig causing it to snap.
"I can't watch," I mumble. Covering my eyes. Although I was peeping through the cracks of my fingers.
"Keep still. Keep still," Hagrid warns. Buckbeak bows slightly and I move my hands from my face and sigh in relief. "Well done, Harry. Well done," Hagrid says and tosses something towards it. "Here, you big brute, you. Right. I think you can go and pat him now. Go on. Don't be shy. Nice and slow, now. Nice and slow. Slow." Draco shoves through the crowd pulling us to the front. At some point he had obtained an apple and was chomping on it. His arm now away from my small frame. I lay my head on his shoulder as we watch. I had a deep feeling he was up to something. Or jealous. "Not so fast, Harry," Hagrid says as Buckbeak snaps at Harry whose arm was extended, "Slow down, Harry. That's it... Nice and slow. Now let him come to you. Slowly, now, slowly, slowly... That's it..." The creature approaches Harry and moves its head around his palm. I smile watching the interaction. "Yes! Well done! Well done, Harry, well done!" Harry looks back at me and I give him a thumbs up.
"Does he get to fly?" Someone asks. I look around. Flying on Buckbeak would be so cool!
"I think he may let you ride him now," Hagrid says picking Harry up like a small child.
"What?" Harry asks.
"Come on," Hagrid says. He places the boy on top of the Hippogriff.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Hagrid!" Harry protests.
"Put you over here, just behind the wing joint," Hagrid says, "Don't pull out any of his feathers, because he won't thank you for that." Harry whispers something to Hagrid who nods. Then Harry waves me over. I point at myself and he nods.I toss my back down then I remove myself from Malfoy and join the two. Hagrid helps me up and places me behind Harry.
"Good?" Harry asks.
"Yeah," I say as I wrap my arms around his waist.
"Alright you two," Hagrid says. He hits Buckbeak making him start to run off. I tighten my grip around the boy as we leave the ground.
"Woah!" Harry yells. We soar around the castle. It was absolutely breath taking.
"Wow," I mumble causing Harry to chuckle.
"I know," He says. As we fly closer to the water Harry steadies himself. He raises his arms out like he was flying too. "WOOHOOO WOHOO HOO!" He yells ecstatically. I chuckle as Buckbeak starts flying back to the class. Once we get back to the ground people were clapping.
"Well done, Harry, and well done Buckbeak," Some one cheers. I let go of Harry as we settle down now laughing.
"That was wicked, Harry!" Someone else says. Hagrid helps Harry down then me. Once returning to the ground I cheer.
"That was awesome!" I chuckle pulling Harry into a hug, "thanks for letting me do that."
"No problem," Harry says.
"Well done, well done," Hagrid says to us, "How am I doing me first day?"
"Brilliant, professor," Harry says,
"Absolutely fantastic," I say to Hagrid who chuckles at my huge smile.
"You're not dangerous at all, are you," Draco says cockily, "you great ugly brute!"
"Draco don't!" I yell as he approaches it without warning.
"Malfoy, no..." Hagrid warns. Buckbeak lifts up and hits Draco down.
"Draco!" I yell now completely worried for the boy.
"No! Buckbeak! Away, you silly creature..." Hagrid says. Buckbeak retreats back to the food Hagrid had just thrown.
"It's killed me!" Draco whines. I crouch beside him.
"Draco," I mumble pushing back his blonde locks from his face.
"Calm down. It's just a scratch!" Hagrid says.
"Hagrid!" Hermione says, "He has to be taken to the hospital."
"I'm the teacher. I'll do it," Hagrid says.
"You're gonna regret this," Draco warns.
"I'll go with you," I say. As Hagrid picks Draco's wirey body up.
"Class dismissed!" Hagrid yells. I run over and grab mine and Draco's things then back to Hagrid. Draco still mumbling and groaning as we walk through the whole school.
******
"Does it hurt terribly, Draco?" Pansy asks. They all had surrounded him. Pushing me to sitting across from him. Lets just say I was definitely unhappy.
"It comes and it goes," He says.
"Thats awful," Astoria says.
"Just awful," Pansy says, "you shouldn't of had to go through that." I unlike them was actually doing my homework. I was busying myself away trying not to focus on them all flirting with him.
"Still, I consider myself lucky," Draco says, "Madam Pomfrey said another minute and I could've lost my arm. I can't do homework for weeks." Which was a lie. He had a cut on his arm. Not an awful one. But she wrapped it and put it in a sling because he was being a baby.
"Are you going to need help with that?" Pansy asks, "I could help!"
"Maybe," He says. They all giggle and I shove my belongings into my bag.
"Well then I'm free to go right?" I ask, "seems like you have plenty enough her to keep you satisfied." I stomp off to the Gryffindor table and join Hermione, Harry, and Ron. I sit beside Ron and pull out my books again.
"Listen to the idiot," Ron says, "He's really laying it on thick, isn't he?"
"Oh yeah," I confirm, "his arm is fine. He just wants the attention." I sneak a look and see him still flirting with the girls.
"Yeah but at least Hagrid didn't get fired," Harry says.
"Yeah but I hear Draco's father's furious," Hermione says.
"Honestly lets curse him," I offer. They look at me all questioningly. Maybe I was overreacting but who gives a shit.
"Y/n Ann Rea Cultven who are you cursing?" Mikey asks sliding beside me.
"Malfoy," Harry says.
"Oi what did he do?" Mikey asks all protectively.
"He's stupid. Boys are stupid," I say.
"Not all boys," Mikey says, "heard Harry took you for a ride on a Hippogriff."
"Yeah," I say cheering up, "it was wonderful." I look over at Harry and smile. "That was amazing."
"You're welcome," He says. I look at Mikey who gives a wink to Harry then pulls me into a hug. "See ya little sis."
"Bye," I call out.
"He's been sighted! He's been sighted!" Semus chants as he throws a paper down.
"Who?" Ron asks.
"Sirius Black!" Semus announces. We jump up and join the crowd around the paper.
"Dufftown? That's not far from here," Hermione states.
"You don't think he'd come to Hogwarts, do you?" Neville asks.
"With dementors at every entrance?" I ask, "Please."
"Dementors?" Semus says, "He slipped past them once. Who's to say he won't do it again?"
"That's right. Black could be anywhere," A kid says. I look up and Harry's eyes meet mine. I could see fear behind his bright green orbs. "It's like trying to catch smoke. Like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands."
