Chapter 22- Into The Chamber
"'Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever,'" Ron reads, "Ginny."
"No," I say, "come on." I wave for them to follow me as I run to Lockharts office.
"Lockhart may be useless, but he's going to try and get into the Chamber. At least we can tell him what we know," I say. We barge inside his office.
"Professor, we have some information for you!" Harry yells. All around were trunks. He was packing.
"Are you going somewhere?" I ask harshly.
"Well, yes. Urgent call. Unavoidable. Got to go," He says.
"What about my sister?" Ron asks.
"Well... As to that, most unfortunate. No one regrets more than I," He says.
"You're the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. You can't go now," Ron yells.
"I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the description..." Lockhart says.
"You're running away?" Harry asks, "After all you did in your books?"
"Books can be misleading," He says.
"You wrote them!" Harry yells.
"My dear boy, use your common sense," He says, "My books wouldn't have sold as well if people didn't think I'd done those things."
"You're a fraud. You've been taking credit for what other wizards have done," Harry says.
"Is there anything you can do?" Ron asks.
"Other than flirting with 12 year olds? Or being a pathetic loser," I say.
"Yes actually, now you mention it. I'm rather gifted with Memory Charms. Otherwise, all those wizards would have gone blabbing. I'd never have sold another book. In fact, I'm going to have to do the same to you," He says. He turns around with his drawn wand to see all of us with ours.
"Don't even think about it," Harry says.
"I will hex you into tomorrow," I say.
*******
"Come on," I say, "lets go."
"Not everyone has your energy," Lockhart says.
"Do you want to be an apple," I say, "cause I can do that." Myrtle was sniffling loudly as we enter the dark quiet bathroom.
"Who's there?" She asks, "Hello, Harry! What do you want?"
"To ask you how you died," He says.
"It was dreadful. It happened right here in this very cubicle," She says pointing to the on below her, "I'd hidden because Olive Hornby was teasing me about my glasses. I was crying, and then I heard somebody come in."
"Who was it, Myrtle?" I ask.
"I don't know. I was distraught!" She exclaims, "But they said something funny, a kind of made-up language. And I realized it was a boy, so I unlocked the door to tell him to go away and... I died."
"Well that was anticlimactic," I say.
"Just like that? How?" Harry asks.
"I just remember seeing a pair of great, big, yellow eyes.... over there by that sink," She says.
"Thank you Myrtle," I say.
"Whatever," She huffs. He inspects it closely. Dragging his fingers along everything.
"This is it. This is it, Ron. I think this is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets," Harry says.
"Say something. Harry, say something in Parseltongue," Ron says.
"What?" he asks.
"I can do it," I say, "or can tell you."
"Go ahead," Harry says.
"Naa- lasss- sooo- itd-" I say. The top of the sinks raises up then the sinks spilt apart. The one folding down.
"Excellent, Y/n. Good work. Well, then, I'll just be... There's no need for me to stay," He starts to run off and we grab him shoving him back.
"Yes, there is," Ron says,
"You first," Harry says.
"Now, boys, lady, what good will it do?" He asks.
"Better you than us," Ron says.
"But... Obviously, yes," Lockhart says, "Sure you don't want to test it first?" I look at the boys then back at him. I step up and kick his back to push him in. He screams and lands with a crash. "It's really quite filthy down here."
"- All right. Let's go," Harry says.
"Oh, Harry?" Myrtle says, "If you die down there, you're welcome to share my toilet."
"Thanks, Myrtle," He says then jumps.
"Come on Ron," I say. He jumps then I do. We slide down the dirty pipes then land on a deep pile of bones. We quickly raise our wands back up to Lockhart.
"Now, remember: Any sign of movement, close your eyes straightaway," Harry says. He jumps up into a pipe and starts running.
"Go on," Ron says to Lockhart. He follows Harry and I walk behind them.
"This way," Harry says. Leading to a white long thin layer of something.
"What's this?" Ron asks.
"It looks like a snake," Lockhart says.
"It's a snakeskin," I say.
"Bloody hell. Whatever shed this must be 60 feet long! Or more," Ron says. Lockhart dizzly stirs until he passes out. "Heart of a lion, this one." Lockhart groans and yanks Ron's screwed up wand from Ron's hand.
"The adventure ends here, kids," Lockhart says now standing, "But don't fret. The world will know our story. How I was too late to save the girl. How you two tragically lost your minds... at the sight of her mangled body. So... You first, Mr. Potter. Say goodbye to your memories."
"Oh hell no," I say pulling out my wand.
"Obliviate!" He screams flinging him back against the wall. Causing it to shake and shift. Then it ultimately collapses. Separating Ron and I from Harry. Dust following over us.
"Harry!" I scream.
"Harry!" Ron yells following suit.
"Ron! Y/n! Are you guys okay?" Harry yells.
"We're fine," Ron says.
"Hello," Lockhart says, "Who are you two?"
"Ron Weasley," Ron says.
"Y/n Cultven," I say.
"Really?" Lockhart says, "And who am I?" I groan.
"Lockhart's Memory Charm backfired," I yell to Harry.
"Yeah He hasn't got a clue who he is!" Ron yells.
"It's an odd sort of place, isn't it?" Lockhart says, "Do you live here?"
"No," Ron says. I roll my eyes and groan.
"Really?" He asks. Ron picks up a rock and smacks him over the head. Knocking him out.
"What do we do now?" Ron asks.
"You wait here... and try and shift some of this rock so we can get back through. I'll go on and find Ginny," Harry yells.
"Okay," I yell back, "he always gets the cool jobs."
"He is the Boy who lived," Ron says,
"Whatever," I say, "Lumous." A bright light emits from my wand and I place it in between two rocks. "Now lets get down to business."
