Chapter 21- Spiders! Why does it have to be Spiders?!

"Hagrid's right With Dumbledore gone, there'll be an attack a day," Ron says as we pull the cloak off of us.

"Look," I say pointing to the trial of spiders crawling out of the window in a straight line.

"Come on," Harry says. He grabs a lateran and leads us out, "Come on, Fang." We walk outside to see hundreds of spiders. "Come on," Harry says.

"What?" Ron squeals.

"You heard what Hagrid said. 'Follow the spiders'," I say, "so come on Ron." I grab his arm and drag him along.

"They're heading to the Dark Forest! Why spiders? Why couldn't it be 'follow the butterflies?'" Ron says.

"Quit being a baby," I say.

"But-" He says.

"Do you want me to hold your hand?" I ask.

"No," He says, "let's just get this over with." We walk into the dark forest. It was foggy and creepy and awful. Twisted roots and trees.

"Harry, I don't like this," Ron says, "-Harry, I don't like this at all."

"-Shush!" Harry exclaims.

"Can we go back now?" Ron whines fear covering his voice. I was shaking now. I grab his hand.

"Come on," I say, "we have to do this for Hermione and Hagrid."

"Fine," He says. We walk into the small cave. The walls of it covered by spiders. Once we get to the Other side we see large spiders and webs all around.

"Who is it?" A voice says.

"Don't panic," Harry whispers to us.

"Hagrid?" The voice says, "Is that you?"

"We're friends of Hagrid's," Harry says. A gigantic spider emerges from the darkness. I clutch Ron's hand tighter. "And you? You're Aragog, aren't you?"

"Yes," The Aragog says, "Hagrid has never sent men into our hollow before."

"He's in trouble. Up at the school, there have been attacks," Harry says.

"They think it's Hagrid. They think he opened the Chamber of Secrets. Like before," I say.

"That's a lie. Hagrid never opened the Chamber of Secrets," Aragog says. Ron looking around started panicking. So I quickly started to trace shapes on the back of his hand to refocus him a bit.

"Then you're not the monster?" Harry asks.

"No," Aragog says, "The monster was born in the castle. I came to Hagrid from a distant land in the pocket of a traveler."

"Harry. Y/n," Ron squeals.

"Shush," Harry says. I look around to see the spiders surrounding us quickly I grab Harry's hand too. To make me feel safer. He wasn't at all afraid of it. He was calm. And I was being a baby. "But if you're not the monster, then what did kill that girl 50 years ago?"

"We do not speak of it. It is an ancient creature we spiders fear above all others," Aragog says.

"But have you seen it?" Harry asks.

"I never saw any part of the castle but the box in which Hagrid kept me. The girl was discovered in a bathroom. When I was accused, Hagrid brought me here," Aragog says. I look to see more and more spiders gathering around us.

"Harry!" Ron exclaims.

"What?" Harry asks. Ron mumbles something and points up. Oh no no no no. Hundreds of human sized spiders sat dangling above us.

"Well, thank you," Harry says quickly, "We'll just go."

"Go? I think not. My sons and daughters do not harm Hagrid on my command," Aragog says we back up Fang whimpering and me shaking. The spiders nearing us. "But I cannot deny them fresh meat... when it wanders so willingly into our midst. Goodbye, friend of Hagrid."

"Can we panic now?" Ron asks.

"Know any spells?" Harry asks me.

"One, but it's not powerful enough for all of them," I say.

"Where's Hermione when you need her?" Ron whimpers. Bright lights flash over the horizon. The car we got Harry in rolls over the hill running over spiders and causing others to flee. It stops in front of us and opens its doors.

"Let's go!" I yell, "Arania Exumai!" I hit one of the spiders and jump in. Fang and I in the back. And the boys up front. Soon the spiders slam onto the hoods and mirrors.

"Go!" Harry yells. We flee backwards until we reach a seemingly spider less path.

"Glad we're out of there," Ron says. A spider jumps up and wraps it legs around Ron's neck. Ron screams hopelessly.

"Do something!" I yell.

"What?!" He asks.

"Never mind!" I pull my wand back out and point it at the spider, "Arania Exumai!" It releases him and falls back.

"Thanks for that," Ron squeaks.

"Don't mention it," I say, "Now get us out of here!" I look back to see the heard of spiders approaching us.

"Now!" Harry yells, "Come on!

"Come on, move faster!" I yell at Ron. The spiders now surrounding us on all sides.

"I'm trying!" He screams back as he gets the car moving.

"Come on! Go! Get us in the air," Harry yells.

"The flying gear's jammed!" Ron exclaims.

"Come on! Pull!" I scream.

"I'm trying!" Ron screams. Both boys now pulling. I reach up and pull to and it finally budges sending us up in the air. We land harshly onto the ground and the four of us hop out. Fang barking loudly. I clutch my stomach and gag. Hunching over and vomiting bile on the ground.

"Follow the spiders. Follow the spiders. If Hagrid ever gets out of Azkaban, I'll kill him," Ron yells. I wipe my face and join them. The car starts making noise and we look over to see it driving away. "I mean, what was the point of sending us in there? - What have we found out?"

"We know one thing," Harry says.

"What that Y/n and Hermione are the only reason we are alive these days?" Ron asks.

"No, that Hagrid never opened the Chamber of Secrets," I say for Harry, "you stupid git."

"He was innocent," Harry says.

*******

"Draco Malfoy," I groan as he sits beside me on the couch in our common room. I was reading the books again reading about the chamber.

 "What?" He asks defensively.

"I am trying to work here so if you are going to distract me I will end you," I say.

"But," he says placing his arm around my shoulder, "your mission to melt my ice covered heart." I place the book down and look at him.

"I mean," I say, "as much as I would love to complete that mission. I really need to figure out whats going on with the chamber."

"Please don't do anything to crazy," He says.

"You worried about me Draco?" I ask.

"No!" He says, "you aren't worth it." I chuckle and look at him. "You just aren't useful dead."

"Sure Draco," I say, "sure."

*******

The three of us sat at Hermione's bedside. Harry was currently changing her old dead flowers to fresh new ones. As Ron and I stared at Hermione. Not knowing what to do or say. I stroke her hair. She was cold. Like freezing cold.

"Wish you were here, Hermione. We need you. Now more than ever," Harry says sitting back down. He was stroking her hand. He's face turns puzzled as he holds a crumbled piece of paper up.

"What's that?" I ask.

"Guys... This is why Hermione was in the library the day she was attacked," Harry says, "Come on."

*****

He leads us through one of the many corridors as he examines the piece of paper, "'Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land ...none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years ...instant death awaits any who meet this giant serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it,'" Harry reads.

"You mean to tell me we could of had this bullshit solved already!" I scream.

"Yeah this is it," Harry says, "The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk. That's why we can hear it speak."

"It's a snake," I say. Everything was clicking.

"But if it kills by looking people in the eye, why is it no one's dead?" Ron asks.

"Because no one did look it in the eye!" I say, "Not directly, at least.. Colin had his camera. Hermione the mirror. Justin..... Sir Nicholas!"

"Nick must of got the full blast of it. But he's a ghost, he couldn't die again." Harry says.

"And Mrs. Norris?" Ron asks, "I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror."

"The water. There was water on the floor that night. She only saw the basilisk's reflection," I say.

"And 'Spiders flee before it,'" Harry says, "It all fits."

"How's a basilisk been getting around?" Ron asks, "A dirty, great snake. Someone would have seen it."

"Hermione's answered that too," Harry says showing us the paper where she wrote the word pipes.

"Pipes? It's using the plumbing," Ron says.

"Remember what Aragog said about that girl 50 years ago? She died in a bathroom? What if she never left?" Harry says.

"Moaning Myrtle!" I exclaim.

"All students are to return to their house dormitories at once. All teachers to the second-floor corridor immediately."

*****

"As you can see, the Heir of Slytherin has left another message. Our worst fear has been realized. A student has been taken by the monster into the Chamber itself," McGonagall says to the staff. "The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts."

"So sorry. Dozed off. What have I missed?" Lockhart says cockily walking to the group of worried teachers. To be fair. If he was eat alive by the basilisk I would't miss him.

"A girl has been snatched by the monster," Snape says, "Lockhart. Your moment has come at last."

"My m-m-moment?" Lockhart says.

"Weren't you saying just last night... that you've known all along where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is?" Snape asks. Seeing right through his bullshit.

"That's settled. We'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy," McGonagall says, "Your skills, after all, are legend."

"Very well," He says, "I'll just be in my office getting... Getting ready."

"Who is it that the monster's taken, Minerva?" Madam Pomfrey asks.

"Ginny Weasley."
