After avoiding the painfulness of being on the Hogwarts Campus since the battle I was having extreme trouble dealing with my return. I wanted to avoid coming back as much as possible, but after making Ireland's team McGonagall all but dragged me back to the castle to couch her Hogwarts teams to bring attention back to the organisation. And besides in her words I owed it to the school to help revamp the teams. Allowing everyone to cheer up over the new spangled uniforms and stadium. The bloody woman even used my old jersey as a bribe. After plenty of wearing down I finally agreed to come back. On the agreement that I could go explore the school with free reign.
As I walk onto the pitch I see a mix of new young faces and older familiar ones. "Well well well, look at all these kids," I say announcing my presence. They look at me and I smile. I look at the four teams before me. Mainly focusing on the unbelievable faces of the younger guys. Some were gawking at me, or whispering to their peers. Whether that be from the new shiny quidditch team or the hero status I'm not sure. The older kids however shift their eyes between me and the Slytherin qudditch team. "You've all joins the best activity school has to offer. Maybe one day some of you will join me on the Ireland team." They cheer slightly.
"How did you manage a cup champion team?" Blaise asks playfully.
"Well," I smirk, "I'm just the best beater Hogwarts has to offer." I look over to him and my eyes go wide at the sight of the blond beside him. Here we are finally around each other with out the formalities and problems of war or the affects after. "But you already knew that." Everyone in the know looks between us waiting for something to happen.
"She is," Draco says softly. I look away regaining my alertness.
"Start with two laps around the pitch. All of you," I say quickly, "be quickly about it. Then after you've ran two laps get your brooms and fly two laps." They look around in shock at the demand. "Now!" They quickly start running and Blaise moves to approach me. He places a hand on my back as he smirks.
"Nice job," He says, "You were very cool. Totally not still obviously in love with him."
"That's another lap Zabini!" I snap stepping away as he laughs loudly and starts to run with the other.
"You gonna join us?" Ginny yells.
"Of course Ginavera!" I say as I smirk and start running to catch up with the fast ginger. Once I reach her wordlessly we agree on the move as a challenge to race. We move past the others to the front of the group. I keep a steady pace a few feet ahead of her as she desperately attempts to move past me. As we finish off the second lap she falls to the ground. "How?" She pants looking at me stretching as I keep standing. Not out of breath or anything.
"Ireland's Crazy," I tell her, "6 laps everyday and less time to run them. Now get your broom."
"Help me up," she says. I sigh and extend my hand to her to pull her up. As she gets off the ground she quickly grabs her broom and gets in the air.
"Come on guys push yourself here!" I yell to the horde of kids running. I look amongst them and see Draco in the middle of them all. Not running too fast to wear himself out but enough to push his endurance. Finally he reaches the brooms with Blaise and I scoff. "Zabini I added another lap for you," I say to him. He chuckles.
"Fine, But I'll make sure to keep the door empty for you later," Blaise teases. My face heats up and I groan loudly. Draco looks at me and I look away quickly. I'm not a fool, I know I can't to go back to him. Yet, everything aside. I miss him.
"Yo Cultven you okay?" Dean asks as he lands before me. I nod quickly while the people who had already flown where landing. "Alright kids," I say to them, "set up your teams. Let's bring some glory back to this pitch!"
••••••
After of hours of hard practice the poor kids were half dead. I dismiss the teams to their common rooms to let them rest before individual team practices start. Since I let them all go I was alone to clean up the supplies from the pitch. As I pack the buldgers I look frantically for the special bat Fred gave me.
"Where is my bat?" I ask myself frantically. Feeling the heavy feelings of losing Fred's gift. The mahogany buldger bat. My name engraved. "The bat where is the bat?"
"Here," I hear someone says as they hold it before me. I look up to see Draco. I knew it was him by the voice but I was hoping. I take it and smile softly at him.
"Thanks Draco," I say as my hands trail over the engraving. He smiles softly at me.
"No Malfoy," He asks. I raise my brow questioningly.
"What?" I ask him.
"You haven't called me 'Draco' since we were dating," Draco says. I smile back.
"I didn't understand everything then," I admit. My eyes meet his beautiful grey eyes. I smile softly. "I understand a lot more now."
"I was in the wrong," He says softly, "I should have told you what was happening. I'm sorry." I take his hand.
"Let's just agree to forgive and forget," I say to him. His eyes absorbing every last part of me.
"Yeah," He says. I smile politely and attempt to pull my hand back. But he stops me. "Let's go get a butterbeer."
"What?" I ask him.
"A butter beer. Lets go to Three Broomsticks," Draco says, "through a passage way. Come on."
"Sure," I say not thinking. He smiles happily.
"Great," He says. I nod pulling my qudditch set with me. He takes my free hand and my stomach fills to the brim with butterflies. It was the lack of touch I craved from him. A feeling he gave me years ago back at full force. We sneak through the school to one of the passages leading out to Hogesmade. The bustling town felt empty with the students gone. We walk into Three Broom Sticks and take a back booth. Madam Roostea smiles as she walks back to us with a tray of butterbeers. She places one in front of each of us.
"It's nice to see you kids," She says.
"Same to you," I say to her, "glad to be back here. Leaky Cauldron's butterbeer isn't near as good." She smiles.
"I'm flattered," She says, "but shouldn't you kids be in school."
"I didn't go back," I tell her, "I've got a job."
"Have you now?" She asks, "oh wait I think the prophet said something about you, Weasley, and Potter got new flashy jobs."
"Yep I'm on Ireland's Qudditch team, Harry and Ron both are aurors," I tell her. She nods.
"I'm glad to see you all thriving after all that Voldemort stuff," She says, "what about you Malfoy?"
"I'm back at school," He says and looks over to me, "don't tell McGonagall I'm here tho." She chuckles.
"Of course. Well I'll leave you to it," she says. We wave as she moves away to her other patrons.
"You doing okay?" Draco asks as he pushes one of the butterbeers towards me.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" I ask him, "you guys barely escaped going to azakaban."
"Ah Yeah," He says, "you testified on our behalves."
"You all we're afraid," I say to him, "you especially. Besides I couldn't have history talking about how the great Y/n Anna Rea Cultven's first boyfriend is rotting in Azkaban."
"First boyfriend," Draco repeats as he looks down, "I always hoped to be your last- not in like a threatening way. But I always thought we'd marry."
"So did I," I say softly. He looks up to me and smiles softly. I reach my hand across the table and take his hand. His thumb runs across my worn knuckles.
"What happened?" He asks.
"I got it from defending your honor," I chuckle, "i hit some mouth ministry beat at the leaky cauldron after my shift at the joke shop."
"You didn't have to do that-"
"I know," I say to him in a matter of fact tone, "but I did it anyways."
"You're great," He says, "like actually great."
"Thanks," I say to him. He leans towards me but I pull away in panic. I take a long drink of butterbeer. It's not that I didn't want to. But the consequences that would follow. He awkwardly pulls back.
"It's weird with out you," He says softly, "I feel all weird coming back. Last year was a mess."
"Well yeah," I say to him, "I wasn't even here. I doubt I'd ever be able to come back as a student. It's still hard to even be here."
"I know," he says, "you lost so much that day."
"We all did," I say softly. I place some money on the table and stand. "Let's take a walk."
"Sure," He says standing. He laces his finders in mine and leave the bar. I lead him to the path before the shrieking shack.
"Remember when Harry kicked your arse here?" I ask chuckling slightly.
"Shut it," He chuckles and I smile at him.
"You were all 'my father will hear about this!'" I laugh loudly, "spoiled little rich boy. And I loved it. Hell I still do-" I shut up quickly and his eyes go wide.
"You still love me?"
"No."
"You just said.
"No I didn't."
"Yeah you did."
"Nope."
"You love me," He teases. I start to protest but he looks down at my lips. "You want to kiss me." He steps towards me. I hold back not wanting to give him the satisfaction. Despite my desire to kiss him being crazy. I hold myself back. "You don't have to. I won't put you in that type of situation... I won't do it if you don't want me to, I bet you already found some hunky quidditch player anyways." I smirk and crash my lips into his at this. Proving I wouldn't go for anyone but him. A certain amount of lust towards the affection we haven't shared in almost two years. We haven't dated since our sixth year and he was starting his eighth. My hand curls around his untamed wavy locks. Once I pull away I see his face is red from ear to ear.
"Maybe I do still love you," I say to him. He smiles softly still clearly flustered.
"Well I know I still love you."
