Chapter 104 - Muggle Driving Lessons

The burrow after Fred's death was ghostly quiet always. And since term was over at Hogwarts and I didn't have a job. I had nothing to do. Unlike Harry and Ron who once offered Auror jobs were happy to say goodbye to Hogwarts. I wasn't so sure that I didn't want to go back to finish my schooling. So I was using my summer to mourn my fallen friends. And play with Teddy who is the most loving amazing thing ever.

"I'm going to take Ginny to Diagon Alley," Molly says as she stops at the kitchen we're I was flipping through my potions book from my NEWT class.

"Alright," I say to her softly.

"Are you planning to do anything?" She asks me, hoping the question would be enough to finally get me out of the house.

"I get Teddy later," I say to her, "he's at Andreomana's with Harry. But other than that I'm planning on staying in." She huffs as she collects her bag.

"You're young go enjoy your life!" She exclaims. I shrug.

"I've had enough of a life for like 6 other people," I say as I look up from the book, "besides I have to go to the shop all day tomorrow. Lee has taken it over as much as he can but he needs a break."

"Take George somewhere!" She says happily, "that would be great!" I look up at Molly with a tense face. She is hopeful that somehow I would be able to console the heart broken twin.

"Molly I'm not sure that it's time," I say to her, "besides after Draco's trial I'm not sure I'm the right person to try to cheer him up."

"Right right," she says sadly. I nod closing my book.

"Mum lets go!" Ginny says skipping down the stairs, "I want to find some decent dress robes."

"Alright alright," Molly says, "we'll be back in an hour. I expect to see you not sitting there when we get back."

"I can't promise that," I say to her, "besides I can brew something to turn Ron's hair green."

"I heard that!" He calls from his spot in the living room. He and Hermione were enjoying there couple time before the whole family would be back to swarm them. I scoff as I stand up.

"Bye Molly," I say to her before I stand up. I move past the living room. Flipping Ron off as I walk past. "Bloody git you are Ron."

"Shut it," He hisses as I get up the stairs. As I get into mine and Ginny's room I sit down at my desk.

"Okay so laughing potion," I say to myself gathering the ingredients from my supply of materials. As I start the caldron I see flashes of red hair outside the window. I drop the ingredients in it.

"Hey," I hear quietly. I see George standing in the door way looking on quietly. My eye widen seeing the twin. He hasn't left his room since we got back from Hogwarts weeks ago. He barely eats and spends more time crying than anything.

"Hey," I say waving him in, "want to help me with this potion?"

"Sure," He says quietly, I point down to the furthest ingredient.

"I need a cup of those," I say. He moves and gets the ingredients set out for me. "You know I was hoping to show you this potion after it was done."

"I know a laughing potion," he says, "don't doubt me too much."

"Well it's not doubting you, I'm just trying to cheer you up," I say to him, "I was gonna spike your drink with it."

"Forced laughter, pranks. I like it," he says still meek and quiet. As I finish stirring I hand him a spoon with it.

"I know. Try it," I order him. He takes the spoonful and instantly starts laughing. I smile watching him.

"It's not funny!" He says in between laughs and pushes the spoon towards me. "You try it!" I swallow the potion and fall into the same laughing fit. As I fall to the ground laughing his to gets louder. He falls beside me and I smile at him. Finally it starts to were off.

"Help a little bit?" I ask him and he nods. "Good." I sit up and he crosses his arms.

"I know. Thanks for doing that," he says as he looks around. His mood completely dropping.

"So I figured since we have nothing to do, we go do something," George says. He tenses.

"I'm not Fred-"

"It's not like that," I say to him, "I just want us to hang out."

"Oh yeah," he says, "what were you thinking?"

"Well I noticed you can drive muggle cars fairly well," I say to him, "I thought you could teach me."

"Yeah that sounds fun," he says, "Lee has a car we can borrow. I'll call him."

"Actually he's down at the shop," I say to him, "we can just apparate over there. Is that okay?" George nods meekly. The first time I've ever seen him act so weird. "Alright give me your hand." He instead grabs my wrist. But instead of protesting I apparate anyways. Once outside the shop he sees the tall figure. It was always a debate over who it was made after. But now.

"It's Fred," George says simply but still quietly. I look over at him waiting for him to add on to the random outburst.

"I'll go get the keys from Lee," I say to George after a minute or two. He nods. I leave him staring at the figure and move inside the bustling shop. Lee running around frantically.

"Oi get out of here! I'm making you take a day off!" Lee shouts at me.

"I'm not here to help, although I should be, I'm here to borrow your muggle car. George is teaching me how to drive," I say to Lee. His eyes widen at George's name.

"You've got him out of the house?!" He exclaims, "How?"

"I asked him to teach me how to drive. He said yes," I say simply, "it's not that hard. Are you sure you're really trying?"

"Oh Shut it," He snaps. A loud crash sounds behind him and he turns to see some shitty kid standing over a display. "Bloody hell. Hey you're gonna have to pay for those!"

"Keys?" I ask him. He tosses them at me and I skip off. As I get outside I see George looking intensely at the door to the shop. "I got it Georgie."

"Huh?" He asks looking at me in a layer of confusion.

"The keys," I say handing them over to him. He nods then turns to lead me to Lee's car. As we climb into his car George still maintains the sad look. He starts the car in silence and drives down to an empty parking lot.

"Alright come take the drivers seat," he says parking the car.

"Just like that?" I ask him. He nods. I climb out and we move. Once inside the drivers side I settle into the seat. George helps me adjust the steering wheel. Then he points the the keys.

"Turn it on," He says to me. I follow the instructions he gives consistently and eventually I get to start driving while he continues his instructions. "You aren't holding the wheel right," he snaps.

"Sorry," I mumble fixing my hands as my eyes shift to look over at him.

"Eyes on the road!" He screams.

"Okay okay I'm sorry," I apologize. I over correct everything. Hearing him scoff at me.

"You're doing it wrong," George huffs.

"How so?" I ask him getting slightly annoyed with his criticism.

"It's just wrong," He huffs. I stop the car parking it so I could tell him off over the stick in his ass.

"What's going on George?" I ask harshly, "like no offence why are you being such an ass." He looks at me and starts to talk before shutting up. I turn to look at him raising my brow in confusion. "What?" He crashes his lips into mine and I pull back instantly. "George!"

"Marry me?" He asks quickly.

"What?!" I exclaim loudly.

"Will you marry me?" He asks.

"George you literally have never shown the tiniest bit of interest in me and you're asking me to marry you?" I ask him angrily. I take a deep breath and look at him. "What is this actually about?"

"I don't know. I just thought that since Fred is gone, and he was going to propose to you after the battle- I don't know. It would make you feel like a part of him is back, and I could feel normal again and it wouldn't be just everyone being so sad all the time," George says, "I don't know what I was thinking. It's just weird seeing you without Fred and knowing you could save Draco but not Fred. It's frustrating!"

"George," I say softly.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't of kissed you, or purposed," George says, "I just want everything to be normal again. I want Fred back." He whimpers slightly and I hug him across the seat.

"It's alright George," I say to him, "and everything eventually will be alright. We all need time to heal, especially you and your family. The normal now unfortunately is with out Fred. And as much as it kills all of us. We have to except that." He wipes his eyes for the tears and I smile supportively. "But I didn't have a chance to save him. It all happened so fast. If I could go back and save him I would. Okay? I'm sorry." He pulls back and looks down. I sigh softly. "We should go home."

"Yeah," He says quietly. He takes a deep breath and looks at me.

"Maybe I'll have Lee start teaching me," I say to George.

"Yeah maybe driving isn't our thing," he says crossing his arms, "you know what is tho."

"What?" I ask him.

"Quidditch," He says.

"Oh yeah," I say to him, "we can sit in on some tryouts. Try to take a guess at who's winning this year."

"Or, we could try out?" George asks, "well you really. I need to get back to the shop."

"George this is about cheering you up," I say to him.

"It gets me out of my room, besides I need to make up for ya know proposing," George says, "besides I think helping you prepare will help me focus on something other than how upset I am." I nod slightly.

"Well I'll think about it-"

"The Ireland team is looking for a new beater."

"Oh hell yeah! I'm in!"
