Childhood Friends And School Shootings (Fluff)

⚠️Talk of a school shooting, what would happen in a school shooting, talk of shooting, cussing, crying, panic attack⚠️ I don't blame you if you want to skip this oneshot but just as a disclaimer, there isn't a shooter and it's just a poorly timed drill.

Benji's pov.

Today at school, four classes were chosen to join another school for the day as some programs to see how different our two schools are. I don't know why they thought this was a good idea considering how agressive kids can get based on which school they think is better but oh well, I'm going to stay away from all of that drama.

The bus ride to the school was loud and obnoxious as norma, but I had my phon, so I threw in my headphones and blasted my music into my ears, succeding in drowning everyone else out.

***

Once we made it to the school, we were all loaded off of the busses and were given class schedules to follow for the day.

Our school building designs were the exact same because they were both fairly new compared to the older schoo, s so we were all sent off to find our rooms and begin our classes for the day.

***

I walked up to Chemistry class for first period with three other kids and interrupted the class for a moment as their teacher explained to the class what was happening with our two schools.

Once she was done explaining to her class why we were here she told us to sit anywhere there was an empty seat and pull out anything we needed to fill out for our own assignments and so that's exactly what we did.

Our assignment was that we were supposed to see how the school teacher and students acted with each other, staff and staff acted with each other, and finally, how the students acted with one another. The teacher was really nice but strict with her studes, yets yet they all seemed to like her a lot.

The class went by pretty quickly, and soon, the bell rang, signaling us all to change classes.

I began to walk to the next class on my paper and did a double take on a kid in the hallway.

"They looked a lot like Darcy." I wisper to myself before shaking my head and continue walking to my next class.

3rd Pov.

Benji ended up getting lost on his way to his third period class -AP English-and so he ended up getting late to the class.

The teacher was very kind when he finally arived however and told him to sit wherever he wished as long as he stayed quiet.

So he did just that and sat down quickly and quietly before he began examining the class as he had all of his other classes that day.

The class was going smoothly until the intercom turned on and quickly said, "We're in hard lockdown." confusing everyone in the class, including the teacher.

"Shit lady, why is your whole wall with your door nothing but wondows?!" One of Benji's classmates whisper yelled as a kid from the class quickly shut the door (that automatically locked).

"Because we all go into this room back here." She answered before pulling back a large sheet of paper to reveal a closet door.

Everyone quickly rushed into the small room, squished together on the floor like they did when they were in elementary school.

Everybody pulled out their phones and began messaging their friends and family to see if their friends knew anything that was happening and to inform their familys that they were in hard lockdown.

A few kids were listening to music to help calm themselves down but made sure not to fall asleep incase they would need to make a break for it and run or if they needed to pretend to be dead in a moments notice.

Darcy was one of those kids, and when they looked up , they weren't expecting to see Benji being the last kid in the room looking for a seat.

Right once Benji saw Darcy, however, he quickly made a b-line for them and saw that there was a small space between them and the wall, so he sat there.

The two had done Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing together when they were in middle school and in Sophmore year or high school, but Darcy stopped going because they got too busy with school work and after school activities.

So the two hadn't seen each other since the, but because they were used to literally being on top of each othe, he decided that their legs and shoulders touching wasn't a big deal.

Darcy smiled largly at him as he sat down before pulling up the notes app on their phone.

"Hey! What are you doing here? I thought you went to a different school?" they typed before showing it to Benji so they didn't make any sound.

Benji smiled back at them before gently taking the phone and typing out "I do go to a different school but today four classes out of my school were chosen to come here and see how your school is compared to ours."

He handed the phone bac, and Darcy quickly read over it before typing their response, "That doesn't sound like spying at all lmao, sorry you came on one of these days. They happen pretty frequentl, but most of the tim, we have some sort of reason for the lockdown that's told to us."

Benji read the note and frowned, this shit happened frequently? What the fuck kind of school is this?

"I'm sorry to hear-well read that, you should start coming to the weapon safety class again." he wrote, only half joking at the end of his sentence.

Darcy read it quickly before they began typing again, "I've thought about it but the prices at the gym have gone up a lot and I'm really busy with after school shit. Though I really do want to learn how to properly disarm someone and not have to worry about the potential of getting shot."

When Darcy gave the phone back this time, they didn't look at Benji and instead looked down at the ground, tears pricking at their eyes.

Benji didn't notice Darcy's state and so he took the phone and read it like normal, his frown deepening when he read what it said.

"I'm so sorry you have to go through this shit on a frequent basis. Your school really needs to do something about that." He typed out before handing the phone back; the small amount of light from the phone screen showed Benji the glisten of unshed tears in Darcy's eyes.

He gently took their face in his hands and turned their head so he could get a better look at them.

Darcy grew flustured at how close there faces were and how gentle he was holding their face.

There soft moment was quickly destroyed however when there was an agressive rattle to the class door that was connected to the hallway.

Darcy's eye's quickly filled with panic as they threw their hand up to their mouth to prevent any sounds from coming out, pulling their face away from Benji in the process.

The energy of the room quickly went from nervous to terrified as the agressive rattling continued.

Everyone in the room stayed dead silent however, knowing that if this was a shooter and they were to get in then they would have to hear them because the room was hidden from normal view.

Benji grew panicked as well but put his fear on the back burner and instead prioritised Darcy.

He made sure they saw him wrapping his arm around them so they would have time to stop him or shove him away but instead they grabbed his arm and wrapped it around themself quicker.

Benji gently pulled them into his lap and wrapped both of his arms around them in a large hug.

"It's okay, everything is going to be okay, I'll protect you." He whispered as quietly as possible by their ear as they hid their face into his shoulder.

He could feel his shirt grow damn and began rubbing one of his hands up and down Darcy's back as their body shook with heald back cries.

"Nobody is going to get us here, it's fine, your safe I promise." Benji whispered as he began to run his hand through Darcy's short hair.

The agressive rattling at the door had stopped by now and the person outside had moved onto the next classroom.

A few kids in the small room had calmed down from simply not being able to hear the rattling at the door anymore but others were still freaking out or were trying their best to calm down and stay quiet.

Everyone that had calmed down was trying to quietly help the people that were still freaking out, espically the ones that were quietly crying, doing their best to hold back their sobs.

"The people have left this class my love, you don't have to worry anymore." Benji whispered as he continued to rub their back and play with their hair soothingly.

Both Benji and Darcy were too consumed in trying to get Darcy to calm down that neither of them even noticed Benji's pet name for Darcy.

Darcy nodded and attempted to regain their normal breathing but kept getting choked up so they couldn't and began panicking slightly about that.

"Hey, hey, hey, it's okay, your okay." Benji whispered in his soothing tone before continueing, "Bearth in for four seconds." He whispered, telling Darcy to do the gym's breathing technique for whenever you can't catch your breath after running or working too much.

Darcy did as they were told and breathed in for four seconds.

"Now hold for four seconds and then let it out for four seconds." Benji instrutced softly, never stopping his gentle movements.

Darcy did as they were told and soon regained their normal breathing again.

"Thank you." Were the first words Darcy said to Benji after not seeing each other in two years.

"No problem, I told you I would protect you, that includes protecting you from yourself." Benji whispered back with a small smile as he let his body relax slightly more against the wall they had been leaning against.

More time passed by and Darcy found themself drifting off in Benji's comforting embrace but fought heavily against sleep incase the person came back to their class.

Before Benji could say anything to them, the intercom came back on and their principle's voice rang out loud and clear.

"Okay everyone, the drill is over. You all did amazing so keep up the good work and get back to your classwork!" The principle said in his forced cheery tone that annoyed everyone.

"DRILL?!" A few kids yelled out in outrage as everyone began to leave the small room.

"Oh absolutly not, I will be emailing the principle, vice principle, and as many office workers as I can in complaint of them not telling us teachers that this was just a drill." The teacher stated in outrage as she wiped the stray tears from her face.

She was an older lady and she wouldn't have had a single chance against a shooter, however she was more then willing to take a few bullets for her students if it ment that they would get to survive.

She sat down at her desk and began typing away furiously at her keyboard, only pausing for a second to talk to the class.

"You can do whatever you want or need to do as long as your not yelling." She stated before going back to angerly writing.

The class sat down in groups of their friends and continued to try and help everyone calm down before shit talking the school with each other and online. One kid turning the lights back on but keeping the door shut and locked.

"Are you okay now?" Benji asked as he and Darcy sat down in the back of the class seeing as Darcy's normal seat was being taken up by someone else.

"Yeah I am, I'm sorry about all of that by the way." Darcy appoligised with a humorless laugh as they wiped their eyes and face to make sure there werent any more tears showing.

"Don't appoligise for something like that, your school sucks ass and should give at least the teachers a warning so they can calm the students." Benji stated seriously, clearly pissed off at the school system.

Just then Darcy got a message from their mom and saw that she was asking if they wanted to be picked up early now that the suprise lockdown was over.

"My mom wants to know if I want to leave early, what's your next period?" They asked Benji as they showed him the message.

"I have theater next." He answered after looking at his tempary schedule.

"So do I, we can go together and I'll bother you all class long." Darcy joked with a smile as they rejected their mom's offer politely, explaining what all happened.

Their mom sent back a thumbs up emoji and left it at that knowing they would talk more about it at home in there usual gosip session.

"Sounds like fun." Benji laughed, happy that Darcy was happy again.

***

The two talked about life and what all changed since they had seen each other before the bell rang.

In theater class the teacher was also pissed about the no warning on the drill thing so they ended up watching Phantom Of The Opera instead of doing any real work.

Benji and Darcy ended up cuddling and watching the movie, Darcy mouthing along to almost all of the words with how many times they have seen it and whisper singing all of the songs so they didn't disturbe the rest of the class.

Benji smiled at them and payed more attention to them then the musical itself.

But soon the school day was over and the two had to part ways.

"Hey, what's your phone number? We should stay in-touch outside of this and the gym." Darcy asked before stating with a smile.

Benji smiled back down at them as he pulled out his phone.

They quickly exchanged numbers before Darcy had to leave, their mom had pulled up already and was waiting for them.

Darcy quickly hugged him bye before rushing to their mom's car, waving from the passengers seat as they drove off.

Benji waved back before getting back onto the bus he came here in.

His phone buzzed so he looked down at it.

From:Unknown Number- Hiiii do u wanna hang out at the park some time?

Benji smiled down at his phone before replying.

From:Me- Yeah of course :)
