Chapter Two: Fallen Feathered Friend

"And we've arrived! Gideon, if you wouldn't mind camouflaging us as an alpine meadow, perhaps?" Rip said as everyone got up. Mick still seemed sick, which made me laugh once again.

"What are you complaining about now?" Snart asked, "It's not like we time-jumped."

"I hate flying. Especially in... Whatever this thing is." Mick said.

"Awe, big baddie's afraid of a little height." I teased and he glared at me.

"Where exactly are we?" Carter asked.

"We're still in 1975, right?" Kendra asked.

"Indeed." Rip answered, "October 1975 on the fjords of Northern Norway." Rip said, walking in the direction of his office.

"Sounds like a vacation." Snart said.

"I could use a nice vacation." I said, smiling.

"Which we can take as soon as the threat of Savage has been neutralized, Mr. Snart and Ms... Fae." Rip said. I rolled my eyes.

"Party pooper." I said as he came back with a notebook.

"That's Aldus's notebook." Carter said.

"Now he theorized that Savage might be here and if he's right, and if we capture Savage then at least Professor Boardman didn't die in vain." Rip explained.

"Can't we just go back and save Aldus?" Kendra asked.

"He was our son." Carter added.

"Look, I'm sorry. We can't go back and change events in which we participated. Time would fold in on itself, creating a temporal vortex." Rip answered.

"Which sounds way cooler than it is." Ray piped up.

"Forgetting physics for a second, shouldn't we figure out what Savage is doing in Norway?" Sara butted in and I nodded.

"According to Gideon, there is a large meeting of terrorists and fringe groups looking to buy illegal arms." Rip explained, walking down to the computer table and showing us information.

"Now that sounds like a vacation." Mick said and smiled. I rolled my eyes.

"Arms dealers and terrorists aren't exactly our kind of people, but they're the next best thing." Snart said, leaning over the table with a smile.

"Well, looks like you and your lapdog get to earn your keep." Carter said with the hint of a smile.

"I'm no one's lapdog, birdman." Mick said, glaring at Carter.

"So, what exactly does one wear to a black market arms bazaar, anyway?" Kendra asked.

"The wave rider has a fabrication room which can fashion temporally-indigenous, uh, fashion." Rip said, walking back into his office.

"You've got a room that makes clothing?" Jax asked.

"Doesn't everyone?" Rip asked.

"I call first dibs!" I shouted and began running to a hallway before stopping and looking back at them, "Where is it?"

Seeing as I wouldn't take my mask off, they made me wait on the roof with Jax and the Hawk people, where we boredly waited for something to happen. I began to wonder about Ollie, and how he was handling Dhark. I kind of missed him.

"We're in." I heard Snart through the comm.s, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"So why don't I get to play terrorist?" Jax asked.

"This is just a kidnapping. No need for your nuclear fireworks." Snart explained and I sat on the edge of the roof, looking down as I kicked my feet.

"Nope, I'm already bored." I muttered.

"Any sign of him?" Carter asked.

"No." Snart answered through the comm.s.

"He's not here, boss." Mick said.

"Let's get ginger and Professor and move out." Snart said. After a moment, Stein spoke.

"Seems we were wrong about Savage. He's not one of the buyers."

"He's the seller." Sara finished. After another bit of silence and some gunshots there was more speaking.

"It appears we've drawn some unwanted attention. We need to bid. Fire your gun in the air." Stein said and soon we heard another gunshot.

"Um, what's happening?" Sara asked.

"It's what's not happening that is the concern." Stein answered.

"Nobody else is bidding." Snart said.

"Congratulations, Professor. You just bought yourself a nuclear weapon." Mick said and then there was another silence.

"They're idiots. We're all gonna get killed because of them." I groaned, laying on the ground. I heard someone else on the comm.s and sat up quickly.

"-How did you get in here and who are you?" I knew I recognized the voice, I just couldn't put my finger on it.

"As of a few seconds ago, I'm a nuclear power." Stein said. I couldn't hear the other end of the conversation after that.

"Guys," I turned to Carter, Kendra, and Jax, "I think they're in trouble."

"How would you know that?" Jax asked.

"The person talking to them. He sounds familiar, and not good familiar either. Like the familiar you feel when the blonde chick and black guy go into a haunted house with a group of people in horror movies and you know they're gonna die first." I said and Carter raised an eyebrow.

"Strange analogy." he said. It was then that I heard Mick screw up.

"Hey. Back off."

"They're dead."

"Is there some sort of problem here?" I could hear Savage, which meant he was close.

"Yeah, the master race here is starting to bug me." Mick said.

"Mick, you're going to get all of you killed." I said through comm.s.

"We're just gonna get our nuclear warhead and be on our way." Snart said.

"Once we've validated the warhead's operational. Personally, I find it highly unlikely that you were able to accumulate enough fissionable material in this era to fashion a workable nuclear device." Stein said and I facepalmed myself.

"They're done for." I stood up, getting in position to jump off the building if I needed to.

"I got a feeling you guys might want to get those helmets of yours on." Jax said.

"Change of plans! I will provide a 25% discount to the organization which brings me the heads of these men." I heard Savage.

"Can I burn some stuff now?" Mick asked.

"I wish you would." I heard Snart and immediately walked off the building. I let my black smoke catch me and push me into the building, doing a sort of roll thing as I formed my sledge hammer and started beating some guys. After knocking out about ten or fifteen men, give or take, I heard Sara through the comm.s.

"Um, We got a nuclear bomb here." I started making my way to the platform, beating down anyone standing in the way until I got there. I made it just in time to see Jax pick up the bomb and fly away with it.

101

Back on the wave rider, everyone was arguing, other than me. I stayed behind thinking about the voice I heard. I spaced out during Rips whole speech, but if I wasn't mistaken, Ray had left some bit of his suit and it was going to destroy 2016.

"You were quiet throughout all of that. Something bothering you?" I heard Snart beside me, making me jump as I looked at him.

"The guy that came up to you guys after the bidding-"

"Savage?" he asked and I shook my head.

"The one before that. The guy that made Mick all 'Roar'." I made a clawing gesture while my mask no doubt flashed some sort of closed eyed face, "What'd he look like?" I asked. Snart raised an eyebrow and tried to remember.

"Very clean cut, nice clothes, very short white hair, blue eyes, and a very rude attitude, that make you happy?" he asked and I looked away and thought for a second. "You okay?"

"Yeah, just, something from my past." I said and looked back at him with a smile.

"You really should take that mask off sometime. I bet your real face is prettier than some studded leather LED glasses." he said, referencing my mask as he walked away. My eyes went wide and I shook my head, laughing slightly.

"You don't have a clue." I muttered under my breath as he walked around the room.

"So thanks to Raymond leaving a piece of his suit in the past, the rest of us don't have a future to go back to?" he asked, walking around and up to Ray who was sitting next to a very distraught Rip.

"Unless we do something to change this course of events, the future will become immutable." Rip said.

"Exactly how much time to we have?" Ray asked nervously.

"Until Savage's weapons team reverse-engineer your tech." Rip answered.

"We're talking 1970s terrorist with 21st century weapons. And since we don't know where Savage went-" Stein started before getting interrupted by Ray, who stood up.

"We don't have to find Savage. We just have to find the other piece of my suit. Which shrinks because it's made of an alloy which mimics intra-molecular compression of a dwarf star, thus emitting Alpha Particles." Ray said, using a lot explanation to say we needed an Alpha Particle tracker.

"So we just need to be able to track them. Fortunately, Alpha Particles are highly trackable."

"Can't you guys just say we need an Alpha Particle tracker and get on with it." I groaned, not needing to listen to them geek together anymore.

"But Alpha Particles are unheard of in the 1970s. It's like we're trapped in the stone age." Ray said and I rolled my eyes.

"I'll have you know that I was researching Alpha Particles when you were eating crayons." Stein said, proving Ray wrong.

"So to track that piece of Raymond's super suit, we just need to talk to..." Snart said, trailing off.

"Me." Stein finished his sentence. "Twenty five year old me, rather."

"You two are just in time." Rip said as Carter and Kendra returned from wherever they had wandered off to.

"Show them, Kendra." Carter said and Kendra help out a piece of paper.

"Aldus was carrying this when he was killed." She said as Rip took the paper from her. "It's a newspaper article about an Egyptian dagger."

"The one that Savage used to kill us." Carter continued.

"In Central City, we learned that objects associated with the night of our deaths can also be used to kill Savage."

"According to Aldus's notes, the dagger needs to be wielded in conjunction with an incantation inscribed on it." Carter finished.

"What does the incantation say?" Stein asked curiously. Carter looked at Kendra as she searched for the right words to say.

"I don't know. I can't read the language." she said, looking at Rip, who let his hand holding the paper drop to his side in frustration.

"That's just great." I muttered under my breath.

"It's okay. I'll help you remember." Carter said, putting his hand on Kendra's back.

"Splendid. Now, as for the dagger..." Rip said, trailing off slightly.

"You need someone to steal it." Ray said and Snart immediately grabbed the paper from Rip's hands.

"Okay, fine. Whatever, I'll do it." he said and Rip looked at him. "Article says it was purchased by some rich Russian douchebag named Sasha Mahnovski." he said and started walking away.

"I'll go with you." Ray said.

"Me too." I added as we followed.

"I already got a partner." Snart said.

"Who I trust less than you." Ray said.

"And I need something to do so you're stuck with me. Deal with it." I said, continuing to follow him as Ray stayed to talk to Rip for a minute.

"Why don't you go with Stein or find something to do here?" Snart asked as I walked with him, Mick and Ray soon catching up. I pointed to my mask.

"Mask. No Bueno." I stated simply and Snart smirked slightly. "Plus the ship is boring and stealing is fun." I added.

"Fae, you're one of the good guys." Ray said. I just shrugged.

"Not really, there's a lot you nor Oliver noticed about me, Palmer." I said and hid a cheeky grin.

"Hard to believe you have stolen anything." Mick said, giving me a skeptical look.

"Hm, you'll see." I said, not wanting to go much into detail.

101

We had to steal the knife at night, therefore, I had taken a pre-rob nap. I was startled awake when someone knocked on the door. I quickly grabbed my mask and put it on as someone walked into my room. It powered up as I looked up to see Rip.

"I just came to say- do you sleep with that thing on?" he asked, obviously getting side tracked from what he was actually going to say.

"No, but maybe I should start. Seems a long way to come just to say that." I teased and smirked, to which he rolled his eyes.

"I meant, I came to tell you Mr. Snart, Mr. Rory, and Dr. Palmer are getting ready if you are to join them." he said and I nodded, standing up and throwing on my studded leather vest, walking to the door. Before I left, Rip grabbed my arm and I looked at him. "Please make sure they don't get themselves into too much trouble." he pleaded and I nodded.

"Aye, aye, Captain." I said, saluting him before walking out and catching up with the gang.

101

We arrived at the house, which we first scoped out to know what to look out for. We were hiding in the bushes beside it. Ray was on the far right, then Mick, next Snart, and lastly me.

"I'm seeing motion detectors on the ground floor. Hardware on the doors looks standard issue." Snart said from beside me.

"I can't see any smoke alarms." Mick said, clearly wanting to burn something.

"Just stay close. I saw at least three armed guards on the perimeter." Snart ordered his goon. I rolled my eyes.

"Right, boss." Mick said.

"You guys sure do talk a lot, y'know that?" I said and they both turned their heads to glare at me. I held up my hands in defense, I was just speaking the truth. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ray stand up and we all looked at him as he walked towards the house.

"What the hell are you-" Mick started, getting cut off by Ray.

"I recognize the security system. My parents had the exact one." he said and lifted the box to hack in.

"You probably shouldn't-" I started, following him cautiously.

"I'll have the access code cracked and security disabled before you could say "breaking and entering"." he said, turning around with a smile as Mick and Snart walked up to us. "There. We're in." Snart and Mick looked around.

"I wouldn't be so sure of that." Mick said.

"Why's that?" Ray asked.

"Because you just tapped into a dummy box, which means those guards are gonna be here-" Snart began.

"-Quicker than you can say "rookie mistake"." Mick finished as two armed guards ran up behind them, holding guns to their heads. Before I had time to react, Mick and Snart had already turned around and punched them both, knocking them out with ease. Mick looked back to me and Ray. "Ha."

We walked into the house and I immediately began looking around. It was a nice house, but who has a room dedicated to old artifacts in their house? It almost seemed unnatural as we walked into the room.

"Found it." Ray said, seeing the knife and walking up to it. I on the other hand had my eyes on a Morningstar, a mace type thing connected to a chain. I looked at Mick and Snart with puppy dog eyes on my mask as well as my actual face and Snart smiled.

"You'll get your chance." he whispered with a wink before passing me and walking up to Ray.

"Is there a trick to opening the case?" Ray asked and looked up to Snart. As an answer, Snart raised up a fist and bashed in the glass, as did Mick with some of the other cases, and me with the one with the Morningstar. "What are you doing?" Ray asked with wide eyes. "Let's grab the dagger and let's go."

"Raymond, you don't break into a candy store and steal one gumball." Snart said, stretching the end of his sentence.

"You guys grab the goodies. I'll find the safe." Mick said, walking away.

"What do you think you're doing? This is what we came here for." Ray referenced to the knife.

"No, it's what you came here for." Snart said, about to grab a helmet from the case beside the Morningstar. Ray quickly grabbed his arm and Snart stiffened, "Take your hand off me."

"I'm not gonna let you jeopardize another mission. Neither of you." Ray said and looked at me as I began to reach for the only thing I wanted.

"I'm done asking politely." Snart said and threw a punch at Ray. I backed up as my eyes went wide. "This is my mission."

"And I'm gonna listen to a guy who's spent half of his life in prison?" Ray said and threw a fist at Snart, knocking him backwards. I pushed Ray slightly to stand in between them, but by then it was too late. Snart knocked over the helmet he was eyeing earlier and an alarm sounded as a cage fell around us.

"Great. Now we're all going to prison." Snart said and I shrugged, picking up the Morningstar.

After a while of me banging on the bars, I finally decided to give up. Mick had gone to look for a fuse box or something, I wasn't listening. Snart and Ray had started rewiring a box under the helmet and I sighed. I sat down against the bars, watching them.

"I'm blaming you two idiots if we go to prison." I said and Ray looked at me with an offended look while Snart just glanced at me.

"It wasn't my fault!" Ray defended himself and I let out a laugh.

"Says the guy that knocked Snart so much off his feet he knocked over the helmet. You domino-ed him, dude." I said with a smile.

"No one "domino-ed"me." Snart defended himself, "I just didn't expect Raymond here to fight back." he said and I rolled my eyes.

"Sure." I muttered and sat in silence for a bit before humming a song. After a minute I saw Snart stop and rub his temples.

"Stop that." he said, pointing at me.

"What?" I asked.

"Humming, it's distracting." he answered. I pouted, knowing he couldn't see it. My mask most likely changed to puppy dog eyes.

"I thought it was relaxing." Ray said and I smiled.

"Yeah, well, it would be more relaxing if we weren't about to go to prison. Maybe another time." Snart said and I shrugged. In an instant all the red lights surrounding us shut off and I immediately jumped up, ready to get out of these bars.

"Huh. Looks like Rory found the fuse box." Ray said and I fist bumped air.

"We got a slight problem." I heard Mick. Snart and Ray stood up while I turned around. "The owner just came home. You're not gonna believe who it is." Mick said as he appeared from around the corner, a gun to his head. Of course, the wielder of the weapon had to be none other than Vandal Savage.

"We meet again. Oh, I'm grateful for another opportunity to kill you." he said.

"I'm sorry, we haven't been properly introduced. You must be douchebag." I said, letting my cockiness get the better of me as I noticed Mick was bleeding.

"Oh, you're a fiery one. I'll enjoy killing you." he said. I saw Mick struggle to get out of his grasp and he looked back to him. "Stop struggling." he said with a raised voice. "I've had four thousand years of training in every hold and pressure point known." he whispered to Mick before looking back to us. "But you already know that, don't you? That I'm immortal."

"I'm gonna kill you anyway. That's a promise." Snart growled.

"Oh, what have I done to deserve such enmity? No, let me rephrase that. What have I done to you? Perhaps you have targeted me for something I've yet to do." he said. I could see that Mick was in pain and I put my hands behind my back, letting smoke slither to the back and pick up the dagger, pulling it to my hands. "You traveled here from some point in the future."

"Catches on fast, this guy." Ray said and I couldn't tell if he was being serious or sarcastic. Seeing as this wasn't a time for sarcasm, other than me as the exception, I guessed he was being serious.

"Visitors from another time." he said and turned to Mick, hitting him over the head with the gun and knocking him to the ground before pointing the small revolver at us.

"You won't be so happy when the rest of the team shows up and knocks that smug grin off your face." Ray said and I looked at him. The thing he probably wanted most was for the rest of the team to show up, team including Kendra and Carter.

"Oh, why wait?" he said and kneeled down by Mick, picking up his comm. that had apparently dropped. "A communications device of some sort, I imagine." he said and tossed it to us. I caught it and decided to be more of an idiot. I held up the comm. just as he had.

"A comoonicatons device..." I said, mocking his accent. I looked up at him as he aimed the gun directly at my head.

"Please. Contact your friends. I'm looking forward to seeing at least two of them again." I looked at the comm. and shrugged.

"Nah, not feeling up to it." I said and he cocked the gun. Snart quickly snatched it from my hands and pressed the little button to speak into it.

"I'll make this short. The owner of the mansion we burgled is Vandal Savage. He's really interested in meeting you guys, especially our feathered friends." Snart said and tossed the comm. back to Savage, who still kept the gun aimed at us all. After a while of waiting, Savage spoke.

"Your friends are cowards." he said and I rolled my eyes

"They'll be here." Ray assured. Savage kneeled down and pulled up Micks unconscious body from his shirt, aiming the gun at him.

"They're taking too long. They need an incentive." he said. I was about to speak when there was a gust of fire, knocking Savage off his feet. Snart, Ray and I turned around to see Jax, or Firestorm flying and glaring at him. "Oh. The burning man."

"I don't just burn, pal." Jax said before throwing two fireballs at him, knocking him away and out of the house. "I blast things too. Hey, you okay?" He looked down at Mick, who was starting to wake back up.

"I'm pissed." Mick answered simply and I smiled. Jax turned to us.

"Stand back." he warned. We backed up to the other end of the cage as he burned the bars, melting them. When we got out, I was still carrying the dagger and we came across the rest of the group. "It's all good. Savage is down."

"Savage is not defeated by earthly means." Carter said.

"Well, I hit him with a nuclear blast, so, you know, not that earthly." he said and I took the dagger from behind my back, holding it out to Carter, who gladly took it and began to look over it.

"Go get that son of a bitch." Snart said and Carter looked at Kendra.

"Are you ready to end this?" he asked and she nodded.

"We've only been waiting four thousand years." she said and they both flew away.

"We got company." Mick piped up and I looked at him before looking where he was looking. There I saw people with flashlights walking up.

"Friends of Savage." Rip said and took a step towards us. "You'll be needing this." he said, handing Ray his super suit in a miniature form. "Don't leave any pieces of it behind this time." he said. Ray did a little nod thing and we went to go fight off our new friends. Outside became like a nuclear war but I didn't focus on that, I focused on breaking legs and swinging hard with my sledgehammer. Anyone near me got wrecked. After we got done with our new friends we went to see how Carter and Kendra were doing.

Instead of what we hoped to see, Carters body was laying on the floor and Kendra was sitting, Savage had the dagger and looked entirely ready to plunge it into Kendra's heart. Ray blasted him away and we ran up to them. I immediately sat by Carter and began to check for vitals, looking at the stab wound.

"He's gone." I said, not believing it.

"Get Kendra before Savage recovers." Rip ordered and I stood up.

"Come on, we can still kill this bastard." Snart said angrily and Rip turned to him.

"Kendra is the only one who can."

"We gotta go. Kendra needs medical attention." Ray shouted and I used my smoke to pick her up, running out and carrying her close behind as we ran to the ship.

"Gideon, get us underway as soon as Firestorm and Atom are on board." Rip shouted over the sound of his gun as him, Mick, Snart, Kendra and I boarded the waverider. Rip looked to me. "Get her to the MedBay now." he ordered and I began running to the MedBay, carrying Kendra in my smoke the whole time. As soon as she was laying on a seat I left as Rip and Ray walked into the room. I grabbed Rip by the sleeve and pulled him close, pulling my mask up slightly just enough for it to power down.

"You better save her." I whispered in my true voice and he nodded.

"I intend to." He said. I let him go, pulled back down my mask, and walked out and to the bridge. Sara, Snart, Mick, and Jax were already there as I sat down in a seat and pulled up my knees to my chest, letting out a sigh.

"Someone looks like they've had a rough night." Mick said and I glared at him.

"Are we not going to talk about how moronically idiotic you were tonight? What were you thinking?" Snart asked and I sighed.

"Really don't need this right now, guys." I said with a shaky voice. They went silent and soon Ray walked in.

"She's stable, for now." he said and I let out a sigh of relief. He told us that Rip had gone off with Stein and we waited for their return, occasionally checking on Kendra. I didn't realize, but I soon drifted to sleep in my seat.

101

I woke up to someone carrying me and a voice.

"Careful there, Mick. Don't wake her." I heard a familiar voice that I was too tired to put together with a face as instead I hugged the warm body carrying me tighter.

"It would be easier if the ship wasn't moving." I heard a gruff voice and pulled up my mask slightly to yawn.

"Where are we going?" I asked tiredly and whoever was carrying me seemed to freeze. I pulled my mask back down and looked at who it was, seeing Mick's face. "Oh, hi Mick." I smiled and hugged him tiredly before my mind caught up with my actions and I pulled back. "Why are you carrying me?"

"Good morning, sleeping beauty. We're taking you to your room." I heard and looked up to see Snart.

"Why?" I asked as Mick put me down on the floor. The ship was shaking slightly and I began to lose my balance, but Snart caught me.

"You seemed tired." he smirked and I pulled back, turning around to find that we were right in front of my door.

"Well, we're here. Thanks, I don't need you guys anymore, bye, bye!" I rambled, walking into my room before shutting the door on them. I sighed, taking off my mask. I should really be more careful. At any point, they could've taken off my mask. I tiredly slipped into pajamas and into the bed. "Gideon, can you please turn off the lights?" I asked tiredly.

"Of course, Ms. Carlisle." Gideon spoke and I sighed, drifting to sleep.
