Chapter Thirteen: Rage

"We are going to need to find a safe place to set down, Gideon." Rip shouted as the ship shook and explosions were heard all around us.

"I don't believe there are any safe places, Captain." Gideon said and I groaned, letting my head fall back.

"Are we over London yet?" Stein asked and I reached over to Sara, grabbing her hand.

"Why's London shooting at us?" Jax asked, throwing his hand up in the air.

"It's Savage's forces that are doing the shooting." Rip replied, trying to look at us from over the side of his chair, "Here in 2166, they've subjugated most of the globe."

Before anyone else could say anything else, there was an explosion, causing the ship to jerk.

"I'm gonna be sick." I mumbled.

"Maybe picking up here wasn't the brightest idea." Sara said and I nodded.

"Unfortunately,we no longer have the luxury of blindly searching for Savage throughout history." Stein said and I groaned again, somewhat because I was feeling nauseas and somewhat because what he said annoyed me.

"Indeed; we have to target Savage at the place and time that we're certain he will be, which is-"

"Right before he wastes your family." Mick cut off Rip, sounding bored, and everyone looked at him, "What?"

"Yes, Mr. Rory, Savage will kill my wife and son in three days time, but we can save them and the world by stopping Savage now." Rip said before the ship jerked once again and I groaned, ripping off my mask and leaning over my seat, letting my guts spill out. First time I'd thrown up on this ship.

"Captain, I've managed to slip beneath the artillery fire." Gideon said and I sat back up, wiping my mouth. Rip turned around in his seat.

"Set us down in the outskirts of the city, Gideon, near the encampment of the remaining resistance forces. We are going to need to proceed swiftly." Rip said. I tore off my guard and stood up with a groan, but happy that we were finally on ground.

"I realize your family is in jeopardy, but perhaps some deliberation-"

"We really don't have the time, Martin." Rip cut Stein off with a raised voice and my eyes widened as I walked to the other side of the computer table, where Snart and Mick stood, "According to Gideon, Savage is going to be out in the open tonight, vulnerable. Now, in order to capture him, I require the services of-"

"A killer, sadist, klepto, and pyro?" Mick asked, holding his hands out like he knew he was right, which he was.

"Bingo."

101

We were getting into outfits in the fabrication room, and I was sitting, thinking.

"What's got you so rattled?" I heard as Snart sat next to me. I looked over at him and sighed.

"What if we can't get him? What if this is all for nothing and Rip's family still dies and we become nothing more than nobodies again?" I asked.

"Sounds pretty existential, don't you think?" he asked and I glared, "Relax, you won't be able to do anything if you can't think straight. We'll get him, okay? I'll make sure of it." he said and I smiled.

"Thanks." I said quietly.

"Will you two stop being lovey dovey and get ready already?"

101

"Here we stand at the edge of history. But as tempting as it might be to celebrate our previous victories, it is only for the next and final battle that you will be remembered." Savage spoke as Sara turned to me, Snart, and Mick.

"There's no way we can grab him here." she said quiet enough for us to hear.

"Not with an army standing between us." Snart said, sounding annoyed, which he probably was. Mick hushed us and I looked over at him with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm trying to listen to this guy. He gives a hell of a speech." Mick said and I rolled my eyes, returning my attention to Savage.

"Onward to victory!" he said and did a Nazi looking salute. All the soldiers did the same salute, shouting something in unison, "Onward to immortality!" salute and chant once again. With that, Savage pulled back and walked off of the stage, a blonde girl followed him along with guard.

"All set on our end. Jax is in the jump ship, ready to extract you guys." Kendra said through the comm.s.

"Especially if, and by if, I mean when, this thing goes south." Snart said.

"Make the plan, execute the plan, expect the plan to go off the rails, throw away the plan." I said and Snart smiled fondly. The blonde girl walked past us, looking at us for a second before looking away with a small smirk.

"Savage's lady friend just made us." Snart said.

"Have faith, Mr. Snart." Rip said and we turned, following the group. We followed them up a staircase, Mick and Snart in the front, me in the middle, and Rip and Sara behind me.

"If we don't move real soon, we could get ourselves killed." Mick said in annoyance.

"How about we play this out like Chicago?" Snart asked and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. I was guessing that was somewhere they did a heist.

"Could work." Mick said and turned, looking at me and shaking his head as he pushed me into Snart before holding his foot out, tripping Rip, who grunted as he landed on the ground. We all hid behind columns.

"What the hell did you do that for?" Sara and I asked in unison. I peered over just enough to see Rip stand up and the group we'd been following turn to him. Rip immediately fired his laser gun at two guards before running back to us.

"We'll take Savage, you three tie up the guards." Snart said, running after Savage with Mick. I looked at Sara as she looked at me and we both rolled our eyes. I formed my sledgehammer, running at one of the guards. I aimed low, knocking him off his feet as he grunted. I grinned and pulled back, bashing his head with my hammer before pulling back. I turned to see Sara taking care of the blonde chick and Rip fighting another guard. I rolled my eyes and ran after Mick and Snart, seeing them in a predicament.

"We're outnumbered." Mick said before shooting flames at everyone.

"Fall back!" Rip shouted and we all turned away, running back to the other two, "Mr. Jackson, now would be a good time to pick us up." Rip said as we ran down, seeing the blonde chick again. She turned to Snart, who immediately aimed his gun at her, grabbing me and walking past her without moving his gun from its aim at her, before we ran past her and back to Rip.

101

"What exactly do you think you were doing back there?" Rip yelled at Snart and Mick as Sara and I tried to catch up with the three.

"Distracting Savage's pals, which worked, by the way." Snart answered.

"Yes, well, I could've been killed." Rip said, still angry.

"Never said it worked perfectly." Mick replied and I let out a snort as I pulled my mask off.

"At least it wasn't a complete bust. We found out about Kendra's bracelet." Sara said, walking past me and Rip. We paused, glancing at each other in confusion before looking back at Sara.

"What bracelet?"

101

Apparently, the bracelet had belonged to Kendra in her first life, meaning it could be used to kill Savage. Only problem is, how is she supposed to kill him with a piece of jewelry? Rip, Stein, Jax, and Ray had gone to find a resistance force somewhere near the ship. The rest of us had been assigned the task of figuring out a plan to get the bracelet. I had been sitting in my room, tinkering with my mask, the only thing that would help me think.

"At times like these, do you miss being with me?" I heard and jumped, looking up to see Ollie standing in front of me.

"You're not real." I muttered and looked down at my mask. I felt a hand on my shoulder as Ollie sat on the bed next to me.

"I am." he said and I shook my head.

"No, you're back in 2016 Star City." I muttered.

"If only you believed in yourself a little more, Cass." he said, though not in a condescending way more of a genuine concern, and I felt the pressure on my shoulder disappear and I looked up to see that he was gone. A knocking on the door made me jump.

"Knock, knock." Snart said as he walked into the room.

"Why are you here?" I asked, going back to my tinkering.

"I'm fresh out of ideas. Thought maybe you'd thought of something." he said, looking away from me with a small, almost hidden smirk and I rolled my eyes.

"Why are you really here?" I asked and looked back up at him as his smirk only widened. Without another word his lips were on mine. I smiled into the kiss as he put his index finger under my chin and thumb over it, almost like he was holding me there to kiss him. After a second, I pulled away, "What are we?" I asked and he raised an eyebrow at me. I sighed and looked at my hands, "I mean, we aren't friends. I don't think we were ever friends. We obviously have something, but what is it?" I asked. I wasn't normally one for relationships, but with him, I needed clarification. I needed to know what he felt. I felt the bed sink slightly as he sat down beside me.

"Do you you really need to ask, Angel?" he asked, leaning over and kissing my neck. I bit my lip before nodding.

"I need to hear you say it." I said quietly and he chuckled quietly.

"Fine. I don't typically like putting labels on anything, but if that's what you want. I like you, I'm pretty sure you like me. Will you... Cassie Carlisle... Be my girlfriend?" he asked, sounding just slightly annoyed at the sentence I hadn't heard since sixth grade. I smiled and kissed him, hopefully answering him. He smiled into the kiss, getting the memo as I pushed him down onto the bed. I pushed off his jacket and... well... let's just say things got a little heated for Captain Cold and I.

101

"Do we have a plan for stealing this bracelet?" Rip asked as him and Ray walked onto the bridge. I continued patting down my hair as Snart smirked at me from his seat on the computer table.

"We're on it." Mick said and I snorted. We had no idea.

"Please don't tell me the plan is to walk into Savage's citadel and steal it off her wrist." Sara said from a jump seat next to Kendra. I was sitting on the opposite side of her.

"Alright, I won't tell you that." Snart said, hopping off of the computer table and walking away. I couldn't help but smile. Mick stood from Rip's chair and followed him and I stood, walking up to Ray and Sara, who had also stood up.

"Alright, well, we still have the issue of how to turn a piece of jewelry into a lethal weapon." Sara said, leaning against the computer table as we both crossed our arms and looked at Rip.

"Perhaps there is reference to the bracelet in Professor Boardman's diary." he said, looking at Kendra. She thought for a second before shaking her head.

"I doubt it. I've read through my son's research a thousand times." she said and I nodded. I guess I would do the same if I had a kid.

"Savage has a devastating weapon at his command, and here now, at the eleventh hour, we could sorely use a weapon of our own." he said desperately. He obviously wanted to save his wife and son, plus the whole world, as did I, but wasting time reading through something to look for something you're sure isn't there is not a way to do that.

"I'll look into it." Kendra said softly.

101

The men circled around the woman like vultures looking for their next meal. They all attacked at once, little did they know, she fights back. The woman quickly turned, raising her sword and reflecting one man's blade, then turned, hitting one with the butt of her sword in the stomach before turning to the third man, reflecting his blade as she had with the first me. They continued fighting until two were on the floor and one man had the womans blade to his neck.

"Savage has warned you all about the radicals who oppose us. They will not show you the mercy I just did." she warned and held the fake blade out to a training guard, "Dismissed." she said and the three men left. Snart, Mick and I replaced them while she wasn't paying attention, staring at what seemed to be a dagger of sorts. Mick cleared his throat, "I said you're dismissed." she repeated. She stood still for a moment before turning and throwing the dagger at Mick, He ducked and the dagger flew over him, the sound of metal on metal could be heard from behind us as he stood back up and aimed his gun at her, a straight yet insane look on his face. Snart and I were closer to her on opposite sides, me holding my sledgehammer at the ready as Snart aimed his gun.

"Oh, we thought you said "missed"." Snart mocked and I grinned under my mask.

"Whoever you are, you're certainly persistent." she said, not looking at either of us.

"Not really." Mick said, moving closer, "We just like bright, sparkly objects, like that bracelet." Mick said, nodding towards the bracelet on her wrist.

"You'd risk dying for a bauble?" she asked, extremely calm for someone with two guns aimed at her.

"It works with my outfit." Mick said, totally straight-faced, and I held in a laugh, trying to seem somewhat more professional than I was. An alarm began blaring and Snart, Mick and I looked up as red lights started flashing. We looked back at her and she turned to Snart.

"What now, Mr. Snart?" she asked and I furrowed my eyebrows. She knew us?

"How do you know my name?" he asked, the same expression on his face.

101

"There I was, thinking we could go a whole week without kidnapping anyone." Rip said as he walked into the room where Snart, Mick and I were standing. The girl was in the cell, facing away from us.

"I think you'll find it would have been better to simply kill me." the girl said, turning around. I had to admit, she was pretty.

"I agree." Mick said and I rolled my eyes, though it was covered by my mask.

"It's a little more complicated than that." Snart said, waving the hand that was holding the bracelet over to Rip. Rip took it from him as Snart looked at him, "She knew who I was."

"I know who all of you are. It's a pleasure to meet you, Gareeb." she said calmly and Rips eyes widened before he let out the mixture of an uncomfortable and nervous chuckle.

"I see Savage has been rather chatty with his lieutenants." he said, walking closer to the cell as I took Snart's hand in mine.

"If you think I am merely Savage's soldier, you're more idiotic than he claimed. I'm not his lieutenant," she walked closer to the glass that was separating us, glancing at my hand holding Snart's for less than a second, "I'm his daughter."

101

"Vandal Savage has a daughter?" Ray asked as I stared at the ground, thinking about everything that had happened in the last hour.

"Apparently it's true. There's a lid for every pot." Stein confirmed Ray's question as Ray stopped walking beside him.

"And this lid is going to be very upset when he finds out that we took his pot." Jax said and I looked at him from my seat in Rip's comfy chair. Everyone else seemed to look at him too, seeing the flaw in his sentence, "You know what I mean."

"So what's the problem? It's not like we're on Savage's Christmas card list." Snart asked, seeming confused about why everyone seemed upset, as was I.

"And we snagged the bracelet." Mick pointed out, "You're welcome, by the way." he said to Kendra and I snorted.

"We need to weaponize that thing before Savage knows that it and his daughter are missing." Ray said and I went back to staring at the floor.

"Actually, I think I've got that figured out. But, I'm gonna need you to burn something for me." Kendra said, turning to Mick, who looked as excited as he could be in this room.

"About time." he said.

"We also need to figure out what we're going to do with our new guest."Rip said.

"She's seen us and the ship. If she runs back to Savage, we're giving him a huge advantage." Sara stated the obvious. I just wanted her gone, I didn't care how we did it. She made me uncomfortable. The way she looked at my team members and me. Specifically the way she looked at Snart.

"So we make her our advantage." Mick said and I looked at him, trying to cool my feelings, "Send Papa Savage a finger. And we keep sending them till he puts his own head on the chopping block." Mick said.

"That is a positively lurid idea. I know we're in the midst of a war, but can't we maintain our honor?" Stein asked, disgusted by the idea. I personally thought it wasn't too bad of an idea, but at the same time, I was screwed up and causing people I didn't like physical pain filled me with joy.

"I'd rather maintain my life, professor." Mick said, eyebrows raised.

"If she is Savage's daughter, then she would know the details of his defenses." Sara pointed out. Honestly, Sara was starting to sound like a captain, other than Rip.

"Yes, well, how exactly are we going to get those details out of her?" Rip asked and out of the corner of my eyes I saw Snart turned and snapped my head in his direction.

"I'm on it." he said as he left the room.

"I'll come with." I said, standing and following. He turned back to me and held up a hand.

"No, you stay here, with the rest of the team." he said, looking down before up to my eyes. I frowned slightly.

"But I want to-"

"Cassiel. Stay here." he cut me off sternly and the new tone in his voice was unfamiliar to me. Once he knew I'd stay put, he turned back around and walked away to go talk to Cassandra.

101

"Cassiel, means speed of God. Cassiel was an archangel in the Bible, you know? You know what made them important too? Because Cassiel was the one angel that fell in love with humanity, specifically one human. Well I am not one for humanity. In fact I hate the whole race. Snart thinks he's all that, well tough! I'll show him who's boss. What do you think?" I asked, looking at Stein as he tried to read through his book. He groaned and grabbed his head.

"I understand you're upset about Snart seeing another woman, Ms. Carlisle-"

"Not seeing! He's just talking to her." I said and he rolled his eyes. I caught it.

"Talking to another woman. Did you consider the possibility that you might be, well, jealous?" he asked and I laughed.

"Jealous? Me jealous? Never." I said, realizing that he could be right. He nodded.

"Of course. Well, if there isn't anything you could use my help with, could you please let me read and stop worrying?" he asked, slightly raising his voice at the end. I nodded and flinched back. Everyone seemed to be mad at me, but I wasn't sure what I had done. I sat on the chair and crossed my arms, frowning. First Rip, then Snart, now Stein.

What was the point of me? Why was I here if it seemed like nobody wanted me to be? I felt useless again, just like with the Arrow team, just like with the Flash team, just like I always have.

It wasn't long before Ray rushed into the room.

"Savage's super-weapon isn't an explosive." he said to Stein before realizing I was in the room. He smiled at me and waved and I stood up, arms still crossed.

"The exact conclusion I've just come to after examining soil samples from the attack site." Stein said, not looking up from his book. He finally turned around to face Ray, "How did you determine it?" he asked and Ray had a childish smile on his face.

"Gideon. She found a defunct spy satellite." Ray started explaining as he made his way past the professor. Images pulled up on a screen and Ray pointed at it, "Look at the photos here, both of you." he said and I sighed, walking up to the screen as well to look at it, "This is the camp." the image changed, "And here is the camp, destroyed. Look at the impact craters. Sort of squint your eyes. What do they look like?" Ray asked although I could see it almost immediately, having a very vivid imagination.

"What am I supposed to be seeing?" Stein said before getting it, "Oh my God. Those are not impact craters.

"They're footprints." I whispered and Ray nodded at me. Before we could further talk about it, the ship began rumbling. We looked to a vial of some red substance to see the red liquid in it also moving. I looked at Stein and Ray.

"You two go. I'll get Rip." I said and they nodded, running off as I did the same in the opposite direction.

101

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Rip whisper yelled at Stein as he let refugees onto the Wave Rider. I had found Rip, but it seems he had a mind of his own and found Stein anyways, me following.

"Hey, I found Rip." I said and chuckled nervously.

"I'm saving a township, by the looks of it." Stein said and looked back, maybe to find Ray.

"Since when did my vessel become a life raft?" Rip asked and I rolled my eyes.

"Hasn't it always been?" I muttered, thinking about all the people who have been on this ship. He glared at me.

"Not now." he whispered, though sounded angry. I nodded and backed up, leaning against the wall knowing Stein heard none of that.

"Since I decided we can't leave these people here to be slaughtered. You recruited us to save the world. That includes everyone here." Stein yelled at Rip, who looked even angrier now as he turned and walked off.

"Gideon, power the engines to get us into the air the moment the last refugee is aboard." he said and I followed him once again. The ship rumbled and everyone let out a noise of fear and I sighed, "And get the weapons system on-line." he said as we walked onto the Bridge to see Kendra hanging onto the back of a jump-seat.

"What's happening?" she asked us as Rip passed her and I helped her actually get in a seat.

"It would seem Savage has come back for his baby girl." Rip said simply as he got to his window seat.

"The last refugees are aboard, Captain." Gideon said and he looked at us.

"Strap yourselves in." he said and I nodded as all three of us pulled down the guards in our seats, "Gideon, external floodlights to the maximum." he said and the ship began shaking as we got into the air. Ray and Sara ran in.

"Welcome to Party Wave-Rider-being-attacked-by-footprints." I said, popping on my mask.

"That's..." Sara started, looking out the window.

"Let it out, Ray." I mumbled, knowing he'd go full geek on this one.

"Incredible." he said and I nodded.

Outside the window was a giant blue robot. It had the atomic symbol on it's forehead and chest, making me think that maybe it was one of Ray's future creations. It lifted it's robotic arm and tried to swing at us, which we dodged for the most part, but it still shook the Wave Rider.

"Fire! Now!" Rip said and I saw lasers hitting the robot on the outside. It began reaching for us and my eyes widened, "Hold on to something!" Rip shouted at us and I nodded, grounding my feet to the floor and holding onto the guard for dear life. Something exploded by us and the Wave Rider was shaking like crazy now. I bit my lip and nuzzled my head into wherever I could find, "Fire, Gideon! Fire everything!" Rip shouted and I nodded, feeling sick and scared. I hadn't felt scared in a while, "Now might be a good time to start praying." Rip said and I nodded once more, clasping my hands together.

"Please, please, please don't let us die, whatever God there might be. I want to live to my thirtieth birthday. It's just a month away 149 years ago." I rambled scared. The ship started shaking violently as the robot had thrown us in the air. I moaned, partially out of fear, partially out of feeling like I was going to throw up. Then everything went black.

101

Dark hallways. I could hear a baby crying in the distance. This all seemed so familiar as I looked around, remembering my time is limited. I quickly ran towards the sound of the cries. I found the baby, and the two bodies and quickly knelt down by it, searching for any sign of a birth certificate. I heard a moan from behind me and quickly stood up, turning on my heel and seeing the woman trying to move. I quickly ran to her.

"Don't move. I can help you." I said, looking at her wound. I knew that was a lie as the wound was too deep and she'd already bled out mostly. She looked up at me with a sort of kindness and love that I'd never experienced before, then glanced at the baby and back to me.

"Cassiel." she got out, obviously in pain.

"Y-You know me?" I asked and she smiled before staring me straight in the eyes. Her face was familiar, yet I had no clue who she was. She slowly let her eyes close and went limp and I backed up from her, now scared. Who was she?

101

"Cassie. Cassie." I heard and moaned, feeling tears well up in my eyes as I opened them and looked at Rip. Everything was blurry, but I could make out his face full of worry while his hands were on my cheeks to make sure I was okay, "Oh, good, you're okay." he said, relieved as he moved back and let me sit up, wiping away my tears as I remembered the dream.

It took me a while to get used to my surroundings, but I found that I was on the floor and everything seemed broken and dark. I saw Stein walk in as I used a jump seat to steady myself as I tried to stand.

"What happened?" Stein asked and I looked for my mask, which I realized had fallen off. I saw it on the other side of the room, near the door and sighed, letting myself fall to the floor again.

"We seem to have encountered Savage's megaweapon." Rip said, I realized that he looked like crap.

"And he kicked our ass." Sara added as I put my head in my hands.

"Gideon, how much time do we have?" Rip asked the AI.

"I estimate the robot should reach our location within the hour. Our propulsion engine was severely damaged in the crash and is no longer functioning." Gideon answered.

"So where does that leave us?" Sara asked.

"Alright, our only option is to take the jump-ship and try to out-run it." Rip said, walking towards the entrance before Stein stopped him.

"The jump-ship seats eight. The cargo bay's filled with refugees." Stein said.

"I'm well aware."

"Well, we can't just leave them there; we-" Stein stopped and I looked up, finally being able to see clearly. I saw a piece of shrapnel sticking out of his side and my eyes widened as I stood, trying to get to him before falling again. Everything felt weak and drained within me.

"Martin."

101

"So what, we just sit here doing nothing?" I asked Rip, who was sitting on the edge of his desk. I sat on the floor against a chair, I was strong enough to get that far before falling again.

"Yep." I heard him mumble and I frowned. He was looking down at a book in his hand before tossing it slightly, letting it fall to the ground. I saw the shadow of a person and looked over to see Ray walk into the room.

"How are repairs coming?" he asked. I would be able to do the repairs, being a pretty okay engineer, but one, that was Jax's job, and two, even he didn't know how to repair this. Rip's and my silence gave Ray a different idea, "Are repairs coming?" he asked.

"Not in 30 minutes, which is about as much time as we have." Rip answered and I looked down, hugging my knees to my chest, "We brought all those people on board, and all we've bought them is an extra few minutes to live in fear." Rip said, clearly disappointed in everything, including himself.

"Well, I guess the question is, what do we do with those minutes?" Ray asked and Rip stood up, turning quickly to look at Ray.

"The ship is crippled! Cassie and Martin aren't much better. Everyone aboard is as dead as my-" Rip stopped himself, not wanting to hear the sentence come out of his own mouth.

"Family?" Ray asked, finishing his sentence for him, "Look, I know that you think the universe wants them dead, but I don't; I don't believe in fate. I believe in choices. And we can choose-we can choose to fight, even if the fight may be futile. We can save your family Rip." Ray said and a smile tugged at my lips before disappearing once again, "It's not impossible. All we have to do-"

"Is kill Vandal Savage... the chances of which appear to be fading." Rip said and I went back to frowning, noticing another shadow walking into the room and turning to see Kendra and Snart.

"Not anymore." Kendra said and I looked at her, raising an eyebrow, "I figured out how to do it."

"And my new bestie and I can get us in." Snart said and I refused to look at him, still hurt by the way he had talked to me earlier.

"And I think I've got a way to stop the giant robot that's coming to kill us." Ray said and I looked at Rip for his reaction. He shook his head and wiped his face before turning back around to face them.

"Now, you may not believe in fate, Raymond, but I certainly do. And perhaps it was fate that compelled me to bring you seven together so we can change this future once and for all." he said and I smiled slightly before dropping my head and staring at the floor.

Soon I saw someone walk up to me and hold out my mask. I looked at it before taking it with a quiet "thanks", staring at it.

"You seem pretty roughed up." I heard and closed my eyes.

"What's the point of me being here, being a legend, if I can't do anything right? When I made this mask, I made the promise of protecting people, and I can't even do that simple thing, and now there's a chance that we're all going to die. The refugees, my friends," I looked up at him, "You." I said and Snart smiled slightly, sitting next to me, "And now, everyone is mad at me and I don't even know what I did." I muttered, looking back at my mask.

"Nobody's mad at you." he said as if I had just said the stupidest thing he'd ever heard.

"No? Well, it sure seems that way." I mumbled and hugged my knees.

"When I raised my voice earlier, that wasn't because I was mad." he said, obviously sensing that that was part of the problem.

"Then what was it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him. He sighed.

"I didn't want you to get hurt." he said and I laughed bitterly.

"She's in a cage."

"She was still dangerous." he argued.

"Yeah, well, keeping me here didn't seem to help." I muttered. He looked around before shaking his head and standing up, snatching the mask from my hands. He put it on the desk behind him before turning back to me. He held out his hands towards me and I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Come on." he said, nodding over his shoulder and making grabby hands like a child. I rolled my eyes and put my hands in his. He helped me up and immediately wrapped his arms around my waist to steady me. I stared up into his vibrant blue eyes. He smirked and leaned down, pressing his lips to mine before quickly pulling away, "I had fun earlier. We should do it again sometime." he winked and I felt my cheeks heat up.

"Hush." I whispered, embarrassed as I remembered earlier.

"My angel." he said and kissed me once again before pulling back, "Do you think you can fight?" he asked and I furrowed my eyebrows. I had begun feeling better, so I nodded and he smiled, turning around with one hand still on my waist while he picked up my mask with the other one, "Then you're going to need this."

101

I've never been a very good liar. Lying is a difficult concept, trying to make yourself sound truthful when you know you're not. It wasn't that I was taught better, in fact I had to lie in most of my foster homes as getting into trouble had consequences and I was the maker of trouble.

Vandal Savage made his way towards his daughter Cassandra, a dirty grin on his face. As he reached her, he put a hand on her shoulder.

"I've been so worried." he said, getting her to face him, "How did you..."

"I am your daughter." Cassandra answered with a smile. I still didn't trust her, although Snart seemed to. I was afraid she'd give us away as I clenched onto my sledgehammer so tight that my knuckles turned white.

Savage chuckled and I looked at Rip and Snart, sticking two fingers in my mouth to make a gagging motion. Rip rolled his eyes with a bored expression and Snart did the same, but with a slightly amused expression.

"Did you really think some rabble could hold me captive?" Cassandra asked and I turned back to keep watching them.

"Rabble? These are the Time Travelers I warned you of." he said before looking at her wrist, grabbing it as it now didn't have the bracelet on it.

"Father?" she asked, seeming to grow worried.

"Your bracelet. It's gone." he said, staring at her wrist before they glanced at each other.

"I-I must've lost it in my escape." she lied. As I said before, I was never the best of liars, but I knew stuttering was an obvious red flag.

"Ah." he said and I realized he'd caught the same thing I had as he tightened his grip on her wrist, "As the person who tutored you in the art of deceit, you cannot fool me, Cassandra." he growled. What a way to treat your daughter. And father of the year award goes to...

"Like you fooled me? You told me my mother died from the Armageddon Virus. But you were the one who released it. Tell me it isn't true. I might even pretend to believe you." she said angrily and I felt my sledgehammer disappear, "Let me go."

"Call them. Call the ones that you no doubt helped gain access to my bunker." Savage said and Rip swung his arm around the side, aiming his gun at Savage as we walked into the open.

"No need to trouble yourself, Miss Savage. We're already here." Rip said and Vandal let go of Cassandra's wrist. We slowly walked closer, they both had their guns aimed at him and I felt smoke wrap around me as I formed my sledgehammer once again.

"Oh, I admire your command of irony, Gareeb..." Savage said as Mick and Sara emerged from the other side of our hiding spot, "Using my own child against me." Savage looked back at his daughter.

"Sorry to say it didn't take much." Snart said as Cassandra walked to us.

"None at all, you ass." Mick said and I smiled under my mask.

"They showed me the truth of what you've done. The innocent-" Cassandra began not getting very far.

"Do not speak as if you know anything about ruling a people. Do you really want to align your fate with these... pretenders? They're nothing but grains of sand in the desert of time." Savage said, walking up to her. I rolled my eyes, just wanting to bash something already.

"You are a monster." Cassandra said and Savage looked almost disgusted. Soon a small army of guards ran into the room and I looked at them, deciding which one I wanted to bash first. Mick, Snart, and Rip all held up their guns, aiming at the guards. Sara swung out her sticks and I smirked, hauling my sledgehammer over my shoulder. Savage turned and walked back to his guards. He stopped halfway across the room.

"She's here." he said, looking around as if he'd find her, "I can sense her." he turned to us all, "You do realize that she can do me no harm?" he asked, making his way back to us for the millionth time.

"Clearly, you didn't get the memo." Mick said and I grinned. I heard wind, like wings, and we looked up to see Kendra swoop down and pick up Savage, despite his attempt to dodge. She flew him into another room and we began fighting the guards. I swung and bashed as hard as I could, knocking out at least four or five guys before noticing one sneak up on Snart. I ran up behind him and hit him over the head with my sledgehammer as Snart turned around to shoot.

"I had it covered." he said and I rolled my eyes.

"Sure you did." I said sarcastically and we both continued fighting.

"The reinforcements are coming!" Sara shouted after another while of fighting. I swung at another guy before looking at her, wondering what was taking Kendra so long before noticing Rip was gone.

"Whatever you plan on doing, Kendra, do it!" Mick yelled and I began making my way through the guards to the room Kendra and Rip were in, swinging at four just to knock them away for a little bit. I reached the room and looked in, my eyes going wide. Savage was at least knocked out, if not dead, Kendra was in tears and Rip looked either scared or angry, or both. But the thing that shocked me the most was seeing the guard on the floor without a helmet on. It was Carter. I looked back up at Kendra and Rip and watched Kendra just shake her head at me and I understood.

She couldn't kill Savage.
