Chapter Eight: Not You Again
"Where are we this time?" I asked, staring down at my feet while kicking slightly. I was sitting in between Sara and Jax, who was next to Stein, with Snart on the other side, an empty seat beside him, and Ray and Kendra sitting together. The two love birds disgusted me.
"Harmony Falls, Oregon." Rip answered after explaining something about time travel side effects that I didn't bother to listen to, "According to Captain Baxter's Intel, Savage makes an appearance in this Quaint little hamlet."
"What the hell is Savage doing in pleasantville?" Jax asked, raising an eyebrow. Rip was looking at a screen with newspaper articles and I stood up, getting closer to read them. I saw a headline that read "SLASHER STRIKES AGAIN" with a picture of a dead body and grimaced.
"Murder, apparently." Rip said slowly, sounding unsure, "Several denizens of Harmony Falls have been brutally slain, and others have gone missing." Rip explained and I crinkled up my nose in disgust. Murder was gross, especially when it was innocent people.
"Huh. Kind of like Rory." Jax said and I saw him and Snart glance at each other. I frowned and looked down at my feet once again.
"Reports are vague, but it seems like the killer is an expert with knives." Rip said and turned back to us.
"That sounds like Savage's MO." Sara said, putting one and one together.
"Yeah, but serial killing isn't. Sounds pretty small-time for a guy who's had coffee with Hitler." Ray said and I shrugged.
"Maybe he has bigger plans. It's called thinking ahead." I said and Rip nodded at me.
"Exactly right, Fae. We have to assume that Savage has a larger, more nefarious plan. But, since we've jumped back in time, Savage isn't expecting us here." Rip said, walking towards us.
"Savage is pretty good at hiding, even in a small town, so how do you plan to find him?" Kendra asked, using her brain. I smiled and held up a thumbs up her way, making her smile.
"By investigating these murders." Rip said and began doing things on the computer table, "Now, there has to be a common link between the victims, starting with the first." Rip said before going into detail, "A piano teacher was found slain in her home, which is now on the market." Rip then explained some of the plan, telling us that Kendra and Ray were going to go undercover as a couple and buy the house, "Dr. Matt Miller was found murdered on the grounds of the asylum where he worked. The sanitarium is in need of a replacement." He told us that Stein and Sara were to go undercover as a doctor and nurse for the asylum. I began growing curious as to what my part was going to be as he narrowed down the list, "Meanwhile, Jefferson is the perfect age to discern the facts behind the disappearance of three teenagers who went missing a week before these murders began." He said and I nodded as Snart cut in.
"So Raymond and Kendra are shaking up, Sara's nurse Ratched, and Jax's the new kid in town. Where does that leave me and Fae?" he asked and I looked at Rip, just as curious as Snart.

Snart was to go with Rip undercover to get the files and I was supposed to stay back on the ship for "Moral support" according to Rip. I groaned, my mask off and in one of the seats as I walked around, bored. No one was on the comm.s as they were all busy, which made me question why I even had them.
"Join the Legends, Fae. It'll be fun, Fae. You'll be a hero, Fae. Look at me now." I groaned.
"You do know you're on an open line, right?" I heard and jumped slightly.
"Sorry!"

"Savage doesn't think I recognize him, which means he won't try to kill me. He can't steal my powers before I've found them." Kendra said. The whole team had come back a little bit ago and were now talking about what happened while they were out. I obviously had nothing to talk about as I had sat around bored all day. I was laying spread out on the floor, which they'd questioned at first, to which I replied with shushing them, so they gave up.
"Don't forget, we also have to figure out why he's killing townsfolk." Ray brought up, eating Tuna surprise that was apparently a gift from Savage and his wife. That's right, Savage had a wife.
"Are you really eating that?" Kendra asked, seeming disgusted.
"Say what you want about Savage, he makes one hell of a casserole." Ray said and I stood up, walking to him and taking the spoon from Ray, taking a bite for myself under my mask before smiling.
"Yes, well, Mr. Snart and I have been analyzing these forensic files." Rip said and I turned to him and Snart, who were both dressed up and looked nice. Snart was wearing a hat, and I got an idea.
"Which reveal nothing except Savage is very good at making people disappear." Snart said as I sneaked up to him and took the hat off of his head, putting it on my own and resting my hand on my fist like he was.
"Hmm, something you both have in common." Jax said and I turned to him, just as everyone else did, and frowned, looking down again, "Are we just gonna pretend like none of this happened? That Mick Rory wasn't a part of our team? If you can just ice your best friend like that, I hate to think what you could do to us." Jax said, very rudely. I looked up at him.
"You're right, Mick was a part of our team. He was a part that didn't give a damn about us and betrayed us in a heartbeat for his own good. W-What were we supposed to do, Jax?" I asked, my stutter giving away the hint that I was upset. I took off the hat and put it down before walking out, deciding that the conversation would be better without me in it. I got back to my room and immediately created a punching bag and began punching it with all my strength. Soon there was a knock on my door, "Who is it?" I asked as I grabbed my mask, ready to put it on before hearing.
"It's just me, Fae." Snart called through the door and I put my mask down, not caring if he saw my face or not anymore. I opened my door and pulled him inside as it closed, "The rest of the team went out on missions, other than Rip." he said and I nodded, pulling him close and pressing my lips to his. He put his hands around my waist and kissed me passionately before pulling back and kissing my neck. I felt him gently sink his teeth into my skin and I smiled as he lightly sucked at my neck. Afterwards he pulled back and I smiled up at him, giving him a peck on the cheek before plopping down on my bed and patting a spot for him. He smiled and rolled his eyes as he sat next to me and I leaned on his shoulder.
"This doesn't mean I have to stop calling you Snart, right?" I asked, trying to figure out what my relationship with him was in my head. I felt him chuckle slightly and looked up to see him shaking his head before he looked at me from the corner of his eyes.
"Ms. Carlisle, I may have found something regarding your powers, but I would understand if you would like to ask Mr. Snart to leave before I explain." I heard and I looked up, groaning. Now Snart knew my last name.
"Carlisle?" he asked smugly, taking it in.
"Thanks Gideon." I muttered sarcastically.
"I apologize, Fae." Gideon said and I sighed. I turned to Snart and opened my mouth to speak. He held up his hands, knowing what I was gonna ask as he stood up and turned to me.
"Got places to go and things to see, anyways." he said in understanding and I smiled. He looked at my neck, smirked, and then left. I raised an eyebrow, but ignored the action.
"What is it Gideon?" I asked.
"I believe your powers may be the cause of your hallucinations." Gideon said and I raised an eyebrow.
"How so? I've had these powers for years, but these hallucinations are recent." I said, Gideon paused for a moment.
"I will continue to look into it for you." I heard after a bit and smiled.
"Thank you Gideon." I said and like that, Gideon had disappeared. I smiled and reached for my mask, finding it gone. I frowned and continued to look around before realizing where it had went. I sighed and pulled out my phone, putting on the camera and looking at my neck, groaning as I saw a small mark formed. I'll have a great time explaining that, "What happened there, Fae?" "Oh nothing just thought I'd make out with a criminal."

Apparently Jax had gone on a date with some girl and they'd been attacked. Jax was now nowhere to be seen and the girl was severely injured. We found out that her boyfriend had been somehow exposed to the same kind of meteor that Kendra and Carter had been exposed to, just instead of making him live forever, it made him turn into some kind of psycho killer creature. Now we were in the situation of the whole group chat that always has to happen, you know which one I'm talking about.
"Me?" Kendra asked. I was sitting in a seat in Rip's office, turned to face the rest of the group. Rip was somewhat leaning against a wall, Snart was sitting in a seat by a desk a few feet away from me, Stein was walking to where Kendra was standing which was by a table with things scattered all over it. Ray and Sara were both standing on opposite sides of said table.
"Well, you and Carter. Four thousand years ago. The meteorite which gave you your powers appears to be of the same variety that mutated Tommy Fuller." Stein explained and I rested my chin on the palm of my hand as my elbows rested on the arm of the chair.
"And I'm guessing it's not curable." Snart said, looking at his nails like a basic white chick.
"Well, I-I suppose, if the talons which lacerated her left some mutagenic residue, I could-" Stein began and I began to get at when he was saying.
"Yes or no?" Snart cut him off impatiently. I rolled my eyes under my mask.
"Perhaps." Stein said, obviously tired of Snart's shi-
"Why don't you get to work on that, Martin?" Rip butted in, realizing that it would be very easy for a fight to bust out between the two. Stein nodded and left and I stared at Snart. He noticed and raised an eyebrow at me, to which I rolled my eyes.
"Okay," Sara started, drawing both of our attention to her, "so if Savage isn't the one doing the killing, what is he doing in town?" she asked. She had a point.
"Doesn't matter." Ray said with a goofy smile on his face, making me wonder what he was up to as he reached into his back pocket. He then showed us the knife that Carter tried to kill Savage with, setting it on the table in front of him.
"We can take him down." Kendra said happily and I smiled.
"The Amon Dagger-where did you-" Rip started, walking to the table and picking it up.
"Savage's house." Ray said as Rip put the dagger back on the table.
"Alright, we need to proceed on two fronts: locate Jefferson and make an all-out assault on Savage." Rip said and I furrowed my eyebrows, listening intently.
"A full-on attack only plays to Savage's strengths. If we want to get him..." Sara trailed off as Rip understood what she meant.
"We need to target his weaknesses." Rip said and I snorted.
"She might be a better captain than you, Rip, and she's not even a captain." I said and saw him roll his eyes as he continued what he was saying.
"Sadly, very few come to mind." he continued, ignoring my comment.
"I can think of one." Kendra said and we all looked at her, "Me." Wow, egotistic much? "He wants me, and he always has. So if I can get close enough to him, then-"
"Then he'll kill you." Ray cut her off and I groaned, rolling my eyes. Can no one let anyone finish their sentences today?
"Thank you for the vote of confidence, but I don't need your protection." Kendra said and I let my head fall back in annoyance of this whole conversation.
"There's no reason to go alone. We're a part of a team for a reason." Ray said and I couldn't help but agree. It's not that I didn't believe that she could take Savage on on her own, but I didn't believe that she could take Savage on on her own. Four thousand years with Carter, and they still died every time, now she doesn't even have Carter and she thinks this is a good idea?
"Yes, and the team seems comfortable with me doing this, so that makes it about you and me." She said and grabbed the dagger, walking away.
"Wow, drama."

While Ray was playing patient, Sara and Rip playing nurse, and Kendra playing slut, Stein, Snart, and I were in the basement of the facility. Stein was freaking out and it was obvious. I didn't want to bring it up, because I knew he had a bond with the kid and I knew if Stein didn't have Jax, he wouldn't live long.
"I'm sure the kid is fine." Snart reassured Stein.
"Jefferson and I, as you know, share a psychic connection, but for some inexplicable reason, I can't seem to reach him." Stein sighed as I trailed behind the two. I liked to believe they'd made me stand behind them to protect me, but honestly, in horror movies, most things come from behind, "I've grown so accustomed to our partnership, to suddenly be without him is disquieting." Stein said.
"I know the feeling." Snart said and I rolled my eyes.
"Maybe if you liked your partner, you shouldn't have been such a jerk to him while he was at least semi-sane." I muttered under my breath, but I saw Snart tense up, meaning he'd heard me. He ignored my comment and continued walking.
It didn't take long before an alarm sounded, and we came across something. There before us stood a snarling man, except he wasn't a man.
"Oh, boy." Stein exclaimed in disbelief.
"Just when you thought you'd seen everything." Snart sneered.
"The truth behind Twilight." I said and they both looked at me. I shrugged.
The man jumped in front of us and we got a better look at him, not that I wanted to look at him. His hair grossly stuck out every which way like Beetle juice, his skin was a pale green and his hands had four claw-like fingers. Long, dark wings protruded from his back and his eyes were all black, but the one feature that made it entirely terrifying was the one giant fang in the front of his mouth, surrounded by multiple little fangs.
On impulse, I created my sledgehammer and Snart shot his icy blue flames at it, knocking it to the other end of the room. Another one appeared and I threw my sledgehammer at it, knocking it back as well, before pulling my sledgehammer back with my black smoke.
"Guess those missing kids are no longer missing."
I heard more snarling and growling and looked over my shoulder to see Jax walking around a corner, except it wasn't Jax. He had been turned into one of those things.
"Oh, my God." Stein said, terrified by what his partner had become, "It's Jefferson. Jefferson, it's-it's us!" he shouted as Jax made his was towards us, snarling. He let out a shriek and I jumped, grabbing onto Snart's arm as wings emerged from Jax's back. Snart pushed me and Stein over to the side, and I lost my balance, falling to the ground and backing up as he got ready to shoot Jax.
"Jax, don't make me do this." He yelled over the sound of his gun powering up. Jax kept taking steps forward before there was a similar shriek behind Snart. He turned back to see one of the other creatures before looking back at Jax, who immediately hit him with his clawed hand, knocking him off his feet. I jumped, wanting to help him, but I couldn't get over my fear. Snart aimed his gun up and shot a pipe. Some kind of smoke rained down on them and I immediately hopped to my feet, running to Snart as the creatures ran away. I helped him up before we both helped Stein, running out and up to the main floor.
It was chaos. Papers and bodies everywhere and Sara was already fighting creatures. Rip, Ray, and Kendra were nowhere to be seen. Just as we emerged, Jax appeared again, swiping both his hands down as he shrieked. I jumped back and formed my sledgehammer as we backed up.
"I'll bash if I need to bash, Jax. Don't test me." I shouted over his roaring. Suddenly, Sara came out of nowhere and her fist met his face in an instant, "I had it covered." I muttered and she rolled her eyes.
"Sure you did." she said before looking at the rest of us, "It's time to go."
"Not without Jefferson. Or whatever's left of him." Stein said and I nodded.
"We've already lost enough members of our team." I stated and they all looked at me.

After Stein fixed Jax and the rest of the "missing" kids, Jax went to go say bye to Betty as Sara did to her nurse and Ray and Kendra were grabbing their things from the house they had been staying in. I walked into the bridge to see Snart sitting by the window. His leg was crossed and it looked almost like he was hugging himself. He looked up when he heard me and I sighed, sitting next to him.
"I'm sorry." I said and he raised an eyebrow. I looked up at him, "What I said in the Asylum about you being a jerk to Mick, I mean, you were, but I know you were just trying to keep him in line." I explained and he nodded, looking over his shoulder and out of the window.
"Look how great that worked out." He mumbled sarcastically and I smiled sadly. Without thinking, I took his hand into mine and rested my head on his shoulder. I felt him kiss the top of my head and a small, hidden smile tugged at my lips.
We pulled apart hastily when Jax walked in the room. He gave us a questioning look but it left when Snart began speaking.
"Well, look who's up and around." he said as Jax continued to stride to us.
"Mm, yeah." he said and pulled his hands out of his pockets, "I guess I owe you an apology. Grey told me about what happened back at the asylum. You had the chance to kill me, and you didn't." Jax said and Snart looked back out the window, shooting a glance at me, "After last night, I know enough about being a monster to know that you're not one."
"Stop. I'm getting misty-eyed." Snart said and both me and Jax smiled a bit.
"I just want you to know... about what happened with Rory? I get it. You were protecting us. And that doesn't make you a murderer. It makes you a part of this team." Jax said and I smiled.
"Jefferson, you should be resting." Stein interrupted, walking into the bridge.
"Aw, man, I'm-I'm done laying around. I just want to get the hell out of Mayberry." Jax replied, turning around to face the professor.
"Agreed." Snart said, standing up. I followed his actions, "We're still waiting on Sara and the two lovebirds to get back. Seems they've taken quite a shine to 1958." Snart said, walking next to Jax as Rip joined us in the bridge. Before anyone could reply, the WaveRider began shaking and we all lost balance. I fell back onto the window ledge me and Snart had previously been sitting on.
"What on Earth?" Stein asked, stumbling and grabbing onto one of the jump seats. Rip walked up to the computer table.
"Gideon?" he asked and I stood, running to the table. It showed what looked like surveillance of the Time Master we knew to be Chronos.
"Not this guy again." Snart sneered angrily.
"Captain, Chronos has breached the starboard hatch." Gideon informed us.
"How is that possible?" Stein asked and I stared at the screen. Something about this guy wasn't right. I knew he was a time master, but it was almost as if he knew more about us than them.
"Clearly, he's received some new toys from his Time Master friends since our last encounter." Rip said and turned, "Gideon, seal the bulkheads from here until-" He shouted, stopping mid sentence. I looked up to see Chronos standing there.
"Not you again!" I groaned. He shot Rip and I jumped slightly. I formed my sledgehammer and connected it to black smoke, throwing it at him. He did the exact thing as last time, catching it midair until I pulled it back. I sighed and ran to Rip, helping him up as Snart shot at Chronos and Jax and Stein hurried out of the bridge. They knew they couldn't turn into Firestorm because it could very possibly explode the entire ship. I ran at Chronos, jumping and bringing my sledgehammer down. Once again, he caught it and threw it, with me hanging on, to the side. I groaned as I hit the wall and slowly got back up.
"Fall back!" Rip shouted and I nodded, "Get to the jump ship!"
"Don't mind if I do." I said to myself as I ran in the direction of the jump ship. Chronos was shooting at all of us. I turned back on my way, "What'd we ever do to you, guy?" I shouted, not waiting for an answer as I kept running.
The Wave Rider began shaking under us and I swore under my breath. The ship was leaving, and Ray, Kendra, and Sara were still out in 1958 somewhere.
