Prolong: Broken Family
Once there was a pirate named Rumpelstilskin Gold that worked with Captain Hook. He had a wife and a little girl who dreamt of being a pirate like her father.
Rumpel however wasn't sure if being a pirate would be the right thing for his little girl. He knew how dangerous it could be. Captain Hook understood his concerns, but knew if the child was like her father then she would probably be a good pirate.
Sarah was waiting at the docks for her father's return and was happy seeing their ship, "Papa!"
Her father waved to her and then hurried down the gangway to her "hello sweetheart" he picked her up and hugged her tightly "have you missed me? here, look what I brought you for your collection" he pulled out a beautiful sea shell from his pocket.
"It's so pretty, papa." She kissed his cheek.
He chuckled as he carried her from the docks back to their home.
"And I really missed you."
"I always miss you. I wish I could take you with me. Maybe when you're older perhaps."
"Really, papa?"
"....yes, we'll see," he laughed and ruffled her hair.
She smiled and giggled happily.
"If you like, you can have a look around the ship tomorrow" her father said once they were home
"Rumpel, are you sure it's safe? There's a lot of dangerous things on those ships," his wife Belle asked coming.
"It'll be fine, honey, I promise," her reassured Belle.
"I would love too." She smiled.
He nodded "it's settled then. I'll take you tomorrow."
Sarah clapped happily. They then both went and washed up because Belle was plating up dinner. After dinner, Mr Gold tucked her in Sami be it been months since he did, "you must've meet a lot of interesting pirates, papa."
"Yes there's definitely a few interesting ones," he chuckled, "some I wouldn't want to meet again. You have to remember, dearie, not all pirates are nice."
"What about cabin boy Buggy?" Sarah held a wooden doll he got from Gold Roger, he even had one of Shanks, but Sarah fell for the Buggy one. They were of his adopted sons, "from what I heard from you, he seems a nice little pirate."
Her father chuckled, "I think you just like the clown nose. Buggy is a good cabin boy. He's just....a little bit different to the others in many ways. Now Shanks, he's a fine boy. I'm sure he'll be a wonderful captain someday."
"....," Sarah sensed her father wanted to like Shanks, like if she did become a pirate, she could be with Shanks. But being a pirate you would be away a lot. So what's the point to find love. "I guess it's the nose."
Mr Gold chuckled and kissed her forehead. His scaly lips always made her ticklish so she giggled.
"Well who knows, maybe one day when you're old enough you could meet them both. Just don't mention Buggy's nose," he then turned out her light, "now get some sleep, dearie. Sweet dreams."
"Night, Papa. I love you. And I won't. He has a cute nose." She holds her wooden doll Buggy.
Her father laughed and shook his head at his daughter's sweetness. He then closed the door and headed to bed.
The next morning after breakfast, Mr Gold took her to the ship. She was on his shoulders as he walked on the docks. Captain Hook smiled seeing them.
He waved "well what do we have here then, a new member of the crew?" Hook joked as he waved to them
"Not until she's much older," Rumpel shook his head "she's just here for the tour."
Hook raised his eyebrows, "oh, you like Buggy? So do I. He'll be one heck of a fine pirate someday."
"She just likes the nose," Rumpel told him, "it's the clown thing, children love it."
"Buggy doesn't love it though," Hook reminded him.
"If I become a female pirate, I will love him. I would show him love and care." Sarah giggled.
Hook then laughed, "love doesn't always work that way sweetheart, but it's nice because I think that's what Buggy needs—"
"Do not encourage her, Hook!" Rumpel warned him "she's a long ways off being old enough to want to love any boy.... besides, Shanks would be a much better match for her."
"Shanks?" Hook was surprised.
Rumpel nodded "aye, Shanks. He's more.... sensible. He'll take care of her"
"Everyone knows sensible is just another word for boring" Hook chuckled
Rumpel gave him a look "being a pirate is dangerous enough. Buggy runs his mouth too much and can't control his temper. If he doesn't grow out of that, his trash talking is going to land him in a lot of trouble when he's older."
While showing her everything on the ship, that's when they heard another ship came.
Sarah peeked and saw it was Gold Roger.
"Roger!" Hook smiled, "good to see you, old friend.
Sarah stayed hidden below deck, and listened.
Gold Roger jumped aboard and shook Hook's only hand "you too, Hook"
"You look troubled old friend" Hook said.
Gold Roger sighed "it's the boy...."
"Which one?"
"You know which one. Buggy. The kid accidentally ate something he shouldn't. And it's even worse. He found a map, to the grand line...."
"He did?"
"Then lost it. He said it's Shanks' fault for making him drop it into the ocean."
Sarah over heard and felt bad for Buggy. Shanks sounded like a rude person. Suddenly the door opened and saw it was her father.
"What are you doing hiding down here?" He came to her and picked her up, "would you like to meet a very famous captain?"
"Would he like me?"
Mr Gold chuckled and and walked her up on deck. Roger noticed her and smiled. Sarah was shy that she hide her face in her father's shoulder.
"Well who's this little princess, if Shanks saw her, he might fall for her." Roger chuckled.
Gold chuckled "This is my daughter, Sarah. And I'm sure she'd love to meet Shanks."
"Well Shanks is on my ship. Buggy is well...let's just say I put him to work for stealing something he shouldn't have." Roger sighed. He then called out to the red hair boy. He looked like he was around 14 years old. Shanks came over and smiled seeing Rumpel.
"Hello Shanks. This is my daughter, Sarah."
The red haired boy smiled, "hello, Sarah. It's nice to meet you."
Hook went over to Gold Roger's ship to speak to some of the crew members he knew, and to check if Buggy was okay.
Sarah was set down, but she hid her face on Rumpel's side. "Hi...," she said softly.
"She's very shy," Rumpel explained.
"Ah. That's okay. I know it's scary meeting new people."
Hook came back, "hey, Sarah, would you like to meet Buggy?"
She was about to nod, but Rumpel frowned.
"Uh, I think it might be a bit much for her, meeting too many new people all at once."
Hook looked at Rumpel confused, for her knew Sarah seemed to like Buggy, so he felt she would like to. But her father wasn't giving her a choice.
"Maybe next time," Rumpel said.
"But I like—"
"Sarah...." Gold then leaned down and said to her quietly, "Buggy has been acting up again and is being punished. He needs to be left to do his chores."
"...," she looked down. "Alright..."
He then went to talk to Roger and Hook to tell the real reason. Sarah pulled her wooden doll of Buggy and hugged it tightly sadly.
Shanks then tapped Gold Roger and whispered to him, then pointed to the doll.
Gold Roger then chuckled, "ah. She has the doll of Buggy."
"But he is bad news," Shanks whispered.
Sarah then climbed down the boat and walked home which was a long way for a little girl. Once she left, Mr Gold noticed and panicked.
"Sarah's gone!" he told Hook.
"You know why," Hook said as they left the ship together and ran towards Rumpel's house to search for her.
"Why? Because I know what is best for my daughter."
"You're overreacting," Hook said, "they're just kids what harm can it do?"
Sarah was with Belle and she had been crying. Her wooden Doll was also broken. Belle was comforting her, "don't worry, sweetie. I'll fix the doll right up and it'll be as good as new," she kissed her head, "don't cry."
"No papa broke it, he doesn't want me to have it."
This now made Belle mad "well, I will tell your papa he's naughty for breaking your favorite toy. I will fix it for you, I promise. Your papa is just being silly."
Rumpel finally came inside with Hook, Sarah turns to Belle whispering something and Belle nodded, Sarah then went to the back door. Belle frowned at Rumpel with her arms crossed.
"I need to speak to her," Rumpel said, but Belle stopped him and showed him the wooden doll.
"Explain this, Rumpel!"
"She broke her toy?"
"She said you did because you didn't want her to have him anymore!"
"...I didn't do that!?" Rumpel yelled.
Sarah never lied before. She never lied about him ever. They were close.
"She wouldn't lie." Belle said.
"Well she obviously did, Belle! She's just upset because I told her she couldn't meet Buggy."
"Why?"
"It's for her best!"
"Rumpel, they are kids, it's harmless," Belle said, sternly.
Rumpel frowned, "No! He's a monster Belle!"
Sarah came in hearing everything, "I HATE YOU! I don't even have any friends anyway because of you! I hope you never come back!" Sarah cried angrily at her father. She then ran out the door.
Belle was now really mad at Rumpel.
"You handled that really badly, Rumpel. I don't know what has gotten into you, but I can't believe you would call a child a monster."
"I'll go to her," Hook said, and he went to Sarah to comfort her.
Sarah was on the swing in the backyard and was crying. Hook went to her and crouched down beside her "it's alright, love. Your dad is just being overprotective. You're so precious to him but he doesn't realize he's being mean. Your mom will fix your doll. And... I promise the next time Gold Roger is in port, I'll take you to meet Buggy."
"...what if...Papa won't let me the next time?"
Hook smiled, "don't worry. I'm sure your mom will change his mind. And I will try too."
"...ok. Thank you Uncle Hook."
"Don't mention it, little one," he then hugged her.
She hugged him back.
That night Belle tucked her into bed instead and Sarah held her Buggy wooden doll sadly. She even had a talk about lying. The whole night she stayed quiet.
Morning came and Rumpelstilskin and Hook went on the ship with Charming and the left the Fairy Island, a week passed and Hook came back, but where was Rumpel?
Belle was now worried and seen Gold Roger and his crew looking concerned and worried mixed with hurt. Sarah was beside her holding her buggy doll looking confused and even scared.
"...I'm sorry, Belle...Rumpel...he...," Hook dropped his head down.
Sarah looked vey scared now. A clown pirate boy, behind Gold Roger, looked at her and felt bad.
"What happened?" Belle asked, tearing up.
Hook shook his head, "we don't know for sure. He just....disappeared. And when people vanish into thin air at sea that can only mean one thing."
Belle then broke down crying, "he went overboard."
"Sorry, love," Hook then hugged Belle.
"We assume he saw Shanks fell overboard and tried to save him, because he also disappeared..." Roger said.
"Oh my goodness, Shanks too.....," Belle cried.
Hook hugged her tighter, "it's alright, Belle. I'm here for you. I'll take care of you and Sarah. I always promised Rumpel I would....if something happened to him."
"Momma, I didn't mean it. I didn't want papa to die...," Sarah cried, she then ran off crying.
"Sarah!" Belle and Hook then ran after her.
Buggy was about to go too, but Roger stopped him.
"It's not your place to get involved. You don't know this family."
"No but I knew Rumpel!" Buggy snapped "and I'll never know the family if I'm not allowed to go near them."
Gold Roger frowned, "don't talk back to me right now, Buggy! This is not the time for your sass!"
Buggy sighed, but looked down and picked up the Buggy doll she dropped. Sarah was sitting at the beach sobbing and holding her head.
Hook and Belle came to her. They both sat down on either side of her. Belle hugged her, "Your father knew you didn't really hate him. Please don't feel bad. We still have each other."
"If I hadn't told him those things, it wouldn't happen...," Sarah cried.
"Sarah, it has nothing to do with what you said," Hook reassured her, "your father tried to save Shanks."
"...," she looked down shaking.
It was Buggy, they thought that he pushed Shanks overboard, but Hook didn't believe it because Buggy said he didn't do it. He was with Shanks when it happened, but Buggy claimed Shanks jumped overboard and screamed for help as if he pushed the blame to Buggy. Hook didn't want to say it to Belle and Sarah, because he believed Buggy. For Gold Roger, he didn't. Shanks was his favorite.
"But still...I shouldn't have said it. That's not the last thing I should say to Papa...," Sarah wiped her tears away.
"It doesn't have to be the last thing you say to him. Papa will be in a better place, in heaven, and he will hear you" Belle said, tearfully.
"And your papa knew you loved him. We all say things to people we don't mean when we're mad."
"....I know, I just feel so guilty...."
"that's natural. I feel it too, sweetheart. I was mad at your papa before he left."
"But he wouldn't want either of you to feel guilty." Hook was right. It was hard, but Sarah knew her father would want to move on.
She promised herself she would be the best pirate in honor for her father....
