07: More Shocks

I entered the cafeteria and bought two burgers for me. As I turned around, I spotted Jin sitting on the seat in the almost empty cafeteria with a can of coke as usual.

I ignored him. What the hell? Where were the others and what was he doing alone? I knew he was staring at me. From the side of my eye, I saw him intensely staring at me rather at my burgers.

I sat on the seat across from him and put on my headphones to ignore him even though I wasn't listening to anything, but just acting as if I was. I looked at my phone and busied myself liking some ugly selfies of my ugly high school classmates.

Yeah, classmates! You read it right. Classmates! Not friends! 'Cause I had no friends. I only had one friend and that was my mom with whom I used to share everything, even when I had a crush for the first time-it was our class monitor. I still remember how I blushed whenever I told her about it and how she calmly told me that it was natural and just a phase. She was so understanding and loving. She never overreacted. No one knew how awesome it was to have a mother as your best friend.

"Caught in a lie!"

What the-

I almost jumped when I heard someone singing-scratch that, shouting-making me snap out from my thoughts. I looked around, discovering Jin sitting right next to me.

I felt my heart beating fast and had goosebumps. Wide-eyed, I looked at him. Why the hell was he shouting? When did he sit here? I didn't even notice him 'cause I was busy with my phone and thoughts.

"What the hell!" I said, giving him a what's-wrong-with-you look.

"So you weren't listening to anything," he said, smiling mischievously

"Yeah! Anyway, none of your business," I said as I took a bite on my burger, looking at my phone again and trying to ignore him.

"That looks tasty. Let me have one please," he said before moving his hand to take my second burger on the tray. I slapped his hand away.

"Ouch, that hurts." He massaged his hand and glared at me as if I'd done some type of crime.

"Go buy one for yourself. I haven't opened a charity for. . . for. . . Ah. Anyway." I stopped myself from calling him dumb, idiot, or anything that was insulting 'cause I didn't want to make him angry. I knew the consequences.

"Please, just one bite. Please, please, please," he pleaded like a small kid.

Was he pleading? What the hell! For a burger, are you serious? I was shocked, but I kept it inside, maintaining a straight face as I ignored him.

"No!" I said, looking at my phone and taking another bite on my burger.

"Okay!" he said like a child as he sipped on his drink, looking here and there, sometimes on my phone.

Five minutes passed, I noticed that he had finished his coke and now he was just sitting next to me, peering at my phone and sometimes at my burger.

I didn't know why, but I felt bad for him. Even if he hadn't helped me when I fell, still he was never rude to me. He was friendly and helpful, the only person I could actually call my friend.

'He helped you yesterday. He was so sweet and friendly. How could you behave so rudely to him? He's the only person who gives you importance other than your parents. And here you're acting like the rudest person in the whole universe. You really don't deserve friends. You're an emotionless bitch!' the angel inside me shouted angrily.

'Did you really call her bitch right now? Wow!' The devil gave a look of disbelief, 'She's really pissed now."

I felt pain in my heart. I liked this guy; he wasn't harsh like the others even though we had met yesterday. I couldn't do this to him. I finished my burger and turned to him. He staring at my phone but looked away instantly when I turned towards him. He was so childish.

"Here, take this," I said, passing my another burger to him.

He stared at the burger. He must be really hungry.

"I don't take things from strangers," he said, looking away

'Aww,' the angel inside me squealed.

'Are you fangirling? Hey! I think she likes him,' the devil said, smiling mischievously as the angel gave him a death glare

What the fuck! How could someone be as childish as him?

"Take it, it's for you," I said.

But he still ignored me, crossing his hands tightly.

I took a deep breath. "Listen, I'm really sorry. Please forgive me and take this holy burger for god's sake."

"It's okay. I forgive you." He took the burger, bit a small bite, and chewed with godly expression.

"I knew no one can be pissed at me for a much longer time." He finished chewing the food in his mouth and took another bite

"I'm still pissed at you," I said, crossing my legs

He stopped at once, and instead of eating, he looked at me with a confused look.

"Why?"

"'Cause you didn't help me when I needed it," I said angrily.

"When? I can't remember," he said with a puzzled look as if he was trying hard to remember, the half-eaten burger in his hand

"When I fell down on the floor while coming to the cafeteria," I said. "Can't you remember? Short-term memory!"

"Oh, that time." He smiled.

"Yeah, that time! I thought you'd help me but there you laughed with the others."

"You might be talking about Jin Hyung," he said, taking another bite of his burger

Jin Hyung? I gave him a what-are-you-talking-about look.

"So who are you?" I asked, irritated after hearing his meaningless excuse. I narrowed my eyes in frustration.

"I'm Jin Oppa."

"Who's Jin Hyung, then?" I asked, giving him a look of disbelief. I knew that he was lying.

"His name is also Kim Seokjin, but there's a secret," he said in a low voice.

"And what's that?" I was literally facepalming myself due to the stress that he was giving me again.

Please stop lying.

"You know, they're both same people living in the same body of Kim Seokjin, but Seokjin becomes Jin Hyung when he's with BTS and can't recognize any of the people he met when he was Jin Oppa," he said in a low voice, leaning near me and raising his eyebrows.

"What the-" I stopped myself, crossing my arms instead. "You think I'll believe you?"

"You have to, it's the truth. Don't be surprised if you see Jin Hyung acting like a stranger to you. He won't be able to recognize you so don't be mad," he said in a simple straight tone as he chewed on his burger.

"You know, it's the dumbest story I've ever heard. I was expecting a sorry but got to hear some shitty psycho-thriller," I said a bit louder with rage.

"Don't be pissed. It's all Jin Hyung's fault. Don't expect anything from me," he said giving it's-not-my-fault look.

Disgusting.

I turned away, not quite believing how that was possible. How could someone lie with such confidence? I was speechless.

"But instead I can give you a hug," he said, stretching his arms.

"No need!" I looked away. In my whole life, I'd never hugged any male except my dad. It was awkward for me and also I wasn't in the mood to get some silly hug from some person who eats other people's food.

"It's girls' dreams to hold my hand and you're refusing to hug me. Are you serious?"

"Do I look like I'm kidding?"

I wish this day ends fast, I want to go to my room and take a long long sleep, I thought, letting out a sigh.

Room. Room! I was about to forget it. I should ask him. Maybe he could help. Of course, he could help. He knew about everything.

"You want a hug or not?"

"I already said no. Now listen, I want your help-" He cut me off.

"Okay," he said as he hugged himself.

"I want your help." I looked straight at him.

"Hey! Don't ask for Jimin or Jungkook's number or any of the BTS members' including me 'cause I can't give you that." He stood, turning away, burger still in his hand.

"What? Ah, I'm not asking for anyone's number, okay. Now please sit down, my lord," I requested, rolling my eyes.

"Okay! But if you ask, I won't give you even if you beg. I strictly follow my rules."

"Okay, my roommate informed yesterday that our landlord asked us to leave his house in two days 'cause his son is returning and he wants his room back. So as I said, two days. Today is one of the two days and my landlord will kick me out of his house tomorrow. So I want to ask if you know someone who's looking for a paying guest," I explained and took a deep breath to calm my small heart that was gasping for air.

"Oh!" Jin raised his eyebrows, a bit amused as he stuffed the remaining burger in his small mouth and struggled to chew. It seemed like he was thinking deeply. Looking down, he nodded, his eyebrows knitted and a serious look on his face before turning to me.

"You know someone?" I asked with a little smile on my face as my eyes shone with hope.

"Um." I could see how puzzled he was. "Um, yeah! But you'll not like him."

"Why?" I gave him a puzzled look.

"He can give you a room for rent, but. . . Anyway if you want, I can make you meet him." He stood.

"Really? Thanks a lot!" I said, standing as well, a wide smile appearing on my face. "So can you give me his phone number, so I can contact him myself."

"Um, no. It's. . . better to meet him in person." He bit his lower lip. Why do I sense a tone of hesitation in his voice? What was wrong?

"When and where?"

"Today! After classes! Near the abandoned factory," he said, scratching the back of his neck nervously.

"Okay."

Why was he behaving differently? We walked out of the cafeteria.

"Bye!" he said.

"Yeah!" I nodded as I slowly walked in the opposite direction toward my class.

I should've asked him what was wrong. I looked back, and I could see he was busy with his phone, probably chatting with someone. He wasn't moving to go to his class. He was still visible, standing a bit distance away from the cafeteria entrance.

"Hey, Jin!" I shouted. He looked up and gave me a confused look, still serious.

"What?" he mouthed.

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's okay! Why?" He shouted.

"Just asking! I felt like there's something wrong," I shouted back, smiling hesitantly.

"No, everything's fine. I'll see you later, okay?"

"Okay!" I smiled back, relieved.

"Bye!" he shouted and gave me a flying kiss. I acted as if I caught it. We laughed.

"Bye!"

He went to his class and entered. I stood there until his figure disappeared, still laughing about how silly we were. As I turned around, my eyes widened the way they would if I had seen a ghost. Of course, the scene was nothing more or less frightening than a ghost.

My whole class stood there, including the students from other classes. The scariest was the look of my Geography teacher who seemed like she was gonna blast at any moment. There was pin-drop silence.

Everyone was shocked. Some boys smirked at me while I noticed most of the girls rolled their eyes sighing and some gave me dirty looks. My face was as red as a tomato, as I bit my inner cheeks with nervousness. My heart was beating at wind speed.

I looked at Irene who stood with Boa and Suzy among the crowd. They were surprised too but didn't give me any dirty looks instead Boa put a hand on her face to hide her smile while Suzy smirked at me.

"Wow!" Irene mouthed and gave me an amazed look.

"What are you all doing here? Go to your classes," my teacher shouted with anger turning towards the crowd as everyone rushed to their classes.

I also started to walk toward my class.

"Not you!" the teacher said angrily with knitted brows.

I expected that I would get some serious punishment like detention or something worse than that. But double homework every day for one month? That was my punishment. I was happy other than sad 'cause I liked studying. I would've hated the punishment only if the subject would be Chemistry.

Chemistry! It made me remember my professor What was his name? David, Steve, Jim, Jackson, Aaron, Anesthesia?

"Hey! What's our chemistry professor's name?"I murmured.

"Who? That hottie?" Irene asked in a low voice, leaning towards me.

"Uh-huh!"

"Um, Austin. . . Astonishment?" Irene tried to remember as I looked at her like an idiot waiting for an answer.

"Austin, Amanda, um, Aston? Yeah, Aston. Kim Aston. Why?" Irene took a deep breath and gave a relieved smile.

"I was trying to remember his name since morning."

"I always forget his name. It's so hard to remember," she said, making an exasperated look. I laughed at her. She was so funny.

My class ended. I walked out along with Irene, Suzy, and Boa. Then, I noticed Hana coming to join us.

"Just sometime before you missed a memorable moment. I should've recorded that," Boa said, giggling as she remembered the whole incident and my scared-yet-shocked face.

"What are you talking about?" Hana gave a confused look.

"Ivy just gave a legendary first impression to our Geography professor," Suzy said, snorting.

Hana also started laughing when Irene and others controlling their laughter told her about the whole incident. And there I was, laughing along with them though I wasn't liking the way they made fun of me.

Maybe this was what we call friendship.
