Hellhound (2): From Now On

Requested by: hisshissss

Ok so this is a pseudo sequel to my first hellhound one shot. What I mean by that is that it's based on another scene from the greatest showman. Also sorry it took me so long to write this. I've been struggling with chapters of all my books. So monthly or bi monthly updates are the best I can do at the moment.

"Fire! There's a fire at the circus!" Someone shouted.

"What?!" Charlie Charme asked in alarm as he turned to see a fire truck barreling towards the circus that Charlie owned and operated.

"Charlie what's going on?!" His wife Cinder asked nervously.

"I-I don't know," Charlie admitted, "but I'm gonna find out."

At the building that housed the circus the air was thick with black smoke and the streets were filling with the performers and patrons fleeing from the flames.

"Roman what's going on?!" Charlie asked his business partner as he and his family made their way to the small group standing outside the circus.

"I'm not sure," the man admitted, "some people were verbally threatening some of the performers and I but after a minute the fight turned physical. I'm guessing one of those thugs must've set the fire."

"Jenni?! Jenni where are you?!" A voice suddenly shouted.

Roman and Charlie saw Rogna Wolf, one of the trapeze performers, running around in a panic.

"Rogna what's the matter?!" Charlie asked.

"I can't find Jenni! What if she didn't make it out of the building?!" Rogna asked, panic rising in his voice.

Jenni was Rogna's partner but she was also his little sister.

Roman turned to the building and thoughts raced through his head of Jenni stuck somewhere inside with no escape. Without even thinking he raced back into the burning building.

Charlie shouted for Roman to stop but his voice was drowned out by Jenni yelling for her brother as she ran out of the building. Rogna ran over and hugged his sister tightly. Thankfully, the young Faunus woman appeared to be unharmed.

The roof began creaking and it looked as if it would cave in at any second. Charlie didn't want to let his business partner die inside and as minutes passed by Roman still didn't emerge from the building.

Cinder looked at her husband, "Charlie-"

But Charlie only gave her a sorrowful look before he ran inside the building himself.

He was only inside for a few seconds before the roof collapsed and smashed through the building effectively crushing most of it.

Cinder felt her heartbreak and she held her daughters close.

"Look!" Someone then shouted.

Through the smoky doorway Charlie's shape could be seen walking out and he was carrying an unconscious Roman in his arms.

Jenni felt her stomach twist in knots and tears welled in her eyes as she looked at Roman's limp body. It looked as if he was-no Jenni refused to believe he was gone.

The paramedics came and helped Charlie lay Roman on a stretcher. His ginger hair was almost a dark brown color due to the ash and his body was littered with burns.

Jenni tightened her hold on Rogna, she didn't want to see her friend like this....she just had to trust that he would pull through.

————————————————————
A week later Jenni was sitting by Roman's bed in the hospital. She was holding his burned right hand in both of hers and was rubbing circles on the back of his hand with her thumb. Ever since the fire Jenni had been spending everyday at the hospital with Roman. Praying, wishing, hoping for the day that he would open his eyes again. The doctors had warned her though that there was a chance Roman wouldn't be the same. But Jenni didn't care.

"So Mr Charme is working on rebuilding the circus. There isn't much left though. But I'm sure it'll be better then ever when it's fixed. What do you think?"

Jenni had also been telling Roman everything that had happened in the past week. Partially because she wanted him to be informed of everything he missed while he was in a coma and partially because she didn't think she could take the eerie silence of the hospital another minute.

The young woman sighed sadly and began to feel another round of tears prick her eyes when she noticed something move out of the corner of her eye. It was so slight that Jenni almost thought she had imagined it. But then she felt it again. Roman was tapping her hand with his finger.

Jenni felt tears pour down her face, but for the first time these were tears of joy not sorrow.

Slowly Roman's eyes fluttered open and Jenni found herself staring into the beautiful green eyes that she was afraid she would never see again.

Roman looked up at her and he smiled softly, "h-Hey...."

But Jenni didn't let him finish. She leaned over him and kissed him on the lips. She knew Roman loved her and she was finally ready to admit that she loved him too. She didn't care who tried to pull them apart Jenni knew that Roman and she were meant to be. And that's how it would be from now on.
