I even smiled when people asked about my divorced parents. They seemed to be so worried about my well being, so I figured if I acted happy they would be happy.

I walked into the store looking for my favorite chocolate bar.
My mother wasn't with me. She didn't really care where I went as long as I was home on time.
I found the chocolate and walked up to the counter.
"Hello there." The sales lady said.
"Hi." I said with the brightest smile I could muster.
"I heard your parents divorced, how are you feeling? I know it must be hard." Her voice was laced with sympathy.
I smiled again, which seemed to creep the lady out.
"As long as they're happy, I'm happy." I smiled even bigger to show her I was "happy".
She seemed to be creeped out even more, but she gave me a small smile back.
"Well okay. You go home now." She waved her hand at me like I was a bug.
"Goodbye." I walked out still smiling.
After I walked out the store I began to cry.
"They should always be happy, but shouldn't they think about me too?"
