chapter two
Smile
SUKI WOKE UP FEELING COMPLETELY AND utterly drained, something that happened to her often because of what happened to her parents. Now that things were weird at the Salvatore house, the Kim girl felt like things could never stay her way long enough for her to achieve true happiness. You see, Stefan's brother, Damon arrived in town and things were already going downhill.
For some reason, Suki felt an odd urge to go the hospital so, after getting dressed and went through her daily morning routine, she did. It felt like something in her body was making her do it and she didn't like that feeling at all. The Kim girl walked down the hall without a care in the world until she bumped head first into someone's chest, the person catching her before she could stumble backward.
"Man, you really have to learn how to walk." the boy in front of her mumbled, his voice full of annoyance.
"Oh, it's you." Suki straightened out her clothes and crossed her arms, backing away from the grip of the boy she had met at her first day of school.
"I think someone owes me an apology." Jeremy commented as he raised a brow, his lips formed into a half smile.
Suki looked around the area they were in and noticed nobody else was around, the girl completely confused.
"Who?" She asked, shaking her head lightly.
"Fine then, no apology. How about you tell me why you are skipping Tanner's class?" the Gilbert boy leaned up against the wall his head tilting to the side.
"Why are you skipping Mr.Tanner's class?Don't feel like... what did he say again? Sticking with the program?" Suki had to say the most amusing part about living in Mystic Falls was her stupid run ins with Jeremy Gilbert, even if they had only met once.. twice now.
"I came to see my uh... friend." Jeremy nodded his head, rubbing the back of his neck. "Her name is Vicki, her brother used to date my sister."
"Now my fake brother wants to date your sister, she must be created from some magic love potion or something." the Kim girl said, chuckling at her own joke.
"Who's your brother?" The Gilbert boy asked, he wanted to know who was trying to get with his sister because he felt the need to protect her, her and Jenna were the only people that she had left.
"It's kinda complicated actually, he's technically my adoptive cousin now? but me and him are practically siblings. Anyways, his name is Stefan Salvatore." Suki finished her sentence knowing she spent way too much time speaking, her talkative nature getting the best of her.
"Cool, wanna walk to school together?" Jeremy asked, it kind of irked the girl that he was so nonchalant about literally everything, the way he acted like he didn't care almost sparking a type of jealousy inside her.
"Sure, I have to do something really quick. I'll meet you back here in five." the Kim girl walked off, not knowing which direction she was actually going, just that it was like she was supposed to be doing it.
Her feet brought her to a room with tables and a few fridges, when she opened one up, bags of different types of blood were sprawled out in front of her. Her head tilted to the side, her mind trying to keep her from taking anything. However, her body finally won over after a few moments.
"What in the name of the lord am I doing here?" Suki asked herself, furrowing her brows as she observed the blood, the girl reaching forward to pick up a few bags before putting them in her purse. "This could get me in a lot of trouble.."
Suddenly, the Kim girl forgot why she was even in the room and left to go back to Jeremy.
"What did you go do? Someone you know in the hospital?" he asked curiously, holding onto the straps of his book bag with a smile.
"I don't remember." Suki replied to him, shaking her thoughts away.
Both teens shrugged, making their way out of the hospital.
AFTER FINISHING HER HOMEWORK, Suki picked up her purse and headed for the stairs. Her body was once again taking control of her, making her do things she wasn't sure she wanted to do. It was hard to explain yet, she just felt like she was in her body but, not in control of it.
"Let me guess, hospital." She heard Damon say as she went down the stairs, the conversation peaking her attention.
"Someone had to clean up your mess." Stefan replied to him, annoyance laced in his tone.
"What mess?" Suki asked as she took blood bags out from her purse. "Here's what you asked for, Damon. You weren't very specific so, I got a few kinds."
"Ooo, obedient and can think on her feet, I like this kid." Damon grinned, patting the girl on the shoulder while his brother sent him a glare.
"You can't use her like a puppet, Damon! She's family now!" Stefan yelled, his hands waving in the air.
"Well, all of our family knows our little secret, do you want Suki here to know too?" The eldest Salvatore asked, it was almost like he was challenging his brother, pressing him to fall over the edge.
"What secret?" The Kim girl questioned with her eyebrows furrowed.
"Don't go anywhere near her." Stefan warned, his teeth gritting together angrily.
"Fine, after I compel her to forget all this I won't go anywhere near orphan Annie here." Damon shrugged and looked into the girls eyes, his hand firm on her shoulder. "Forget any of this happened, you came downstairs to ask for money to go to The Grill and hang out with some friends."
"Hey guys, can I have some money for tonight? I am studying at The Grill and I am flat broke." the young girl smiled, a small laugh escaping from her lips.
"Here you go, kid." Damon handed her a $100 in cash. "Have fun tonight."
"Our lord and savior-.. you didn't need to give me that much, thank you!" the Kim girl said enthusiastically before giving Damon a hug, the man patting her back lightly.
"Are you sure you should go there by yourself? You are only fiftee-"
"She'll be sixteen soon, right Suki?" The elder Salvatore questioned the girl, his smirk challenging the other man in the room.
"I'll be sixteen in a month." the girl shrugged her shoulders. "I heard there was some candle lighting thing too, maybe you two can come?"
"Can't I have things to do, people to see. I'm sure Stefan here would love to take you though." Damon shrugged his shoulders, letting his arm fall from the girl before waving at the people in his room and walking away.
"I really need to get out of the house, Stefan. I feel like I am going to crumble into a million pieces if I don't." Suki looked towards the Salvatore boy with pleading eyes, her lips forming a pout that he couldn't say no to.
"Yes, yes, i'll take you." The younger Salvatore sighed. "I just have to get dressed, wait here."
Stefan left the area to get dressed and Suki waited patiently for his return. She figured Damon couldn't be that bad considering he gave her $100 for literally no reason. Then again, rich people were always bad in movies.
"Oh crap." The Kim girl sighed and checked her pockets. "I forgot my chapstick."
The one thing people needed to know about Suki was, she would never ever leave the house without chapstick, it is an absolute must for her. So, the girl ran upstairs and remembered she left it in Stefan's room. As she approached though, she heard her adoptive parent Zach talking to Stefan.
"Is she worth it uncle Stefan?" Zach asked, his voice sounding like he was concerned.
"What in the flying-... who's Uncle Stefan?" the young girl furrowed her brows and instead of eavesdropping more, she just went downstairs to find a different chapstick from her room.
... knowing that her new family was hiding things for her.
AS SUKI STOOD WITH STEFAN, HOLDING A candle in her hands for the comet ceremony, she noticed him staring at Elena. He had been talking about her non stop for the past day or two, and she found it nauseatingly cute how happy he was. Or how happy he could be, considering they barely talked.
"Go after her, I know you want to." the Kim smiled. "..and you better get her number this time."
"I can't leave you by yourself—" His protests went unnoticed as he was cut off by the young teen.
"In the name of the lord, please just go and stop worrying about me." Suki crossed her arms over her chest. "If I get into any trouble, i'll call you or Zach, I promise."
"Fine." Stefan sighed. "I'll see you at home kiddo, don't be too late."
He walked off leaving the Kim girl alone, she didn't really mind standing by herself. She never really needed anyone to take care of her and she never felt the need to constantly have someone by her side. However, someone leaned over and lit her candle as she stood there so, she decided to thank them quietly.
"Thank y-" the Kim girl's eyes widen happily as she seen who exactly it was. "Thomas!"
Suki happily threw her arms around her best friend and he laughed slightly.
"I had to come see where they stuck my best friend." Thomas placed a kiss on her forehead. "Where do they eat around this god forsaken place?"
"The Grill is over there, subpar food, and lots of teenagers." The Kim girl informed him, pointing towards the building not too far from where they were standing.
"Well, let's go eat subpar food, Sook." Thomas threw an arm over her shoulder and after blowing out their candles, they went towards the grill.
After a few moments, they made their way inside, the warm air and scent of food surrounding them entirely.
"Have you made any friends yet?" the Beckingridge boy asked curiously, tilting his head to the side.
"Kind of? There is one, Stefan, he's basically family and some guy but, I don't think we are exactly friends." Suki shrugged and bit the inside of her lip as she noticed Jeremy talking to Vicki in the corner, watching them from afar.
"What the hell does that mean?" Thomas asked, his arm falling from off of his best friend.
"Something just tells me i'm going to be seeing a lot more from him." She responded, laughing lightly.
... and she would.
