chapter three
Come Through
AFTER HANGING OUT FOR A FEW HOURS, Thomas finally broke the news that his family was moving to Mystic Falls. It was a bit of a shock for Suki but, she was happy to have her best friend back in a time like this. It wasn't even in her thought process to ask exactly why they were moving to the small town right after she did.
Over the weekend, Thomas had also developed somewhat of a friendship with Jeremy. So, now the three were like a trio, much to Suki's dismay. She didn't hate the Gilbert boy, the two of them just had some sort of unspoken rivalry that annoyed her immensely.
"What's wrong with you, Jeremy?" the Kim girl questioned as they ate lunch, the two were both essentially outcasts so they sat together.
Again, much to her dismay.
"Nothing." the dark haired boy kept a straight face and stared at his food, clearly upset.
"Are you sure?" Suki raised a cautious brow, not wanting to push him too far, she wasn't exactly sure the lengths he would go to in his anger.
"It's stupid." the Gilbert boy glanced at the Kim girl, his expression unreadable. "What are you doing tonight?"
"Zach gave me his car to practice driving, I might do that for a little while." Suki shrugged her shoulders. "What about you?"
"I don't know, do you want to hang out?" Jeremy asked almost shyly, his eyes finally meeting hers.
"Sure, we can drive around and then get some food at The Grill." the Kim girl let out a soft chuckle. "Is there a reason we are being nice to each other?"
"I don't know, fluke in the system?" Jeremy suggested before finally eating a French fry from his plate, eating for the first time since they sat down.
"Thomas must be a miracle worker if he managed to make us get along." Suki suggested jokingly, her hands tapping lightly on the table.
But they both knew that Thomas had nothing to do with it.
STEFAN SALVATORE WAS ABSOLUTELY getting on the Kim girl's nerves. He had been protective over her since the day they met but today, he was taking things to a whole new level. She couldn't understand if it was because she was going out with his girlfriends brother or what.
"This isn't a date, is it? I don't think you should be dating at your-"
"Stefan, it is one hundred percent not a date, i'm pretty sure I dislike him a lot." Suki shrugged her shoulders, trying to make herself mean everything she had just said.
"So, why did you invite him over?" the Salvatore questioned with furrowed brows. The Kim had become like a little sister to him and wanted to make sure she was completely safe.
Which is obviously annoying to a teenage girl.
"He seemed upset and Thomas seems to like him, we might as well get along if we have a mutual friend." the Kim girl replied simply. "Besides, you are dating his sister so that's another reason we should get along."
"Did I hear date?" Damon questioned smugly as he walked down the stairs.
"Nope, this is not a date." Suki shook her head lightly. "...and Stefan made him wait outside so I really should go."
"Have fun." The eldest Salvatore said, letting his hand wave gently to gesture a goodbye.
"Bye guys." Suki put on her jacket and walked outside where Jeremy was waiting, feeling slightly embarrassed by the lengths Stefan had gone to, in order to keep him out of the house.
Zach didn't care either way, and he was the one who okayed her going out in the first place.
"I'm lucky it's not that cold outside." the Gilbert boy smiled slightly, rubbing the back of his neck. "I like your uh.. hair."
"Oh? Thank you... I didn't really do anything to it." Suki took the car keys out of her pocket. "Your hair looks extra...gelled?"
"Was that a joke about my hair?" Jeremy laughed slightly, shaking his head.
"Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't." the Kim girl shrugged before starting to walk to the car, it wasn't a joke but if she could play it off as one, more power to her. "Warning you now I am probably the worst driver in the entire universe."
"Noted." the Gilbert boy followed behind her and when they reached the car he moved in front of her to open the door for the girl.
"Did I just step into some weird parallel universe?" Suki looked him up and down, confused by what was happening.
Why was he being so... gentlemanly?
"Is it a crime to be nice?" Jeremy rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly once again, letting out a slight laugh.
"I don't know, I guess it's just weird coming from you." Suki got in the car, placing the keys in the ignition. "You are always the two oody's, moody, and broody."
"Please never say that sentence again." the Gilbert responded with a laugh before shutting the door and running to the other side of the car where he got in, the Kim girl putting on her seatbelt during that time.
"Thomas would be proud of us, really. We have gone about.. 10 minutes without even one snide remark about each other, it's actually nice." Suki turned the car on as Jeremy shut the door and put on his seatbelt, the girl felt good about tonight, like it would open up new beginnings.
"I guess we get along better than we think we do." Jeremy shrugged his shoulders, lightly. "Please don't crash this car, i'm not even sixteen yet, I can't afford to die."
"Believe me, I have my own fear of car accidents." The Kim girl pressed on the breaks before changing gears and driving off slowly.
Very slowly.
"What do you mean?" the Gilbert boy asked curiously.
"My parents, they um... they died in a car accident a few months back, it's taken me awhile to even step foot in a car, but i'm fine now...." the Kim girl frowned slightly as she drove away from the Salvatore driveway, her fingers slowly tapping on the wheel.
"We have a lot more in common than I thought." Jeremy commented as he looked out the window, trying to prevent tears from escaping his eyes.
"Yours too?" Suki glanced at him but it made her swerve slightly off the road, scaring her half to death as she took in a small breath before straightening out the car.
"Yeah, mine were a few months back too, off of Wickery Bridge." the Gilbert boy explained sadly, he hadn't really talked to anyone about how he felt, not even Elena, so this was a big deal.
"That bridge must be a death trap, my parents died there too..." tears started to swell up in Suki's eyes, the girl blinking to hold them back.
"The only accident I remember is the night my parents-" Jeremy stopped himself before proceeding. "I think our parents were in the same accident..."
"What!?" Suki's voice squeaked loudly as she quickly pulled over onto the side of the road. "That's a coincidence way too freaky for me."
"Elena told me there was another car, a married couple but I never thought about the fact that they had family too..." the Gilbert boy said with a slight frown, the boy feeling guilty he had been feeling like the only person in the world who knew the pain of losing parents.
"I honestly didn't either." Suki sighed slightly, her eyes now looking into her lap. "What do we do now?"
"I don't know, maybe we can just listen to music and try to get happy again?" Jeremy suggested, the topic of conversation making them both visibly uncomfortable.
"Deal." The Kim girl nodded, reaching forward to turn on the radio.
Anything was better than the awkwardness of realizing that their parents had died the same night, for the same reason. Part of her wondered what that reason was. The way they died was just... odd?
But she had to push that to the back of her mind.
THE GRILL SEEMED TO BE THE ONLY PLACE THAT people ever went to hang out in Mystic Falls. When she first got there, the Kim girl figured there would be other places to go but, there wasn't anywhere good in town. The one downside she had observed so far while living in Mystic Falls.
"These fries are so good." Suki commented as she took another bite , the Gilbert boy seeming to be on a whole other planet as she looked in the direction he was staring to see Vicki and Tyler close to each other. "Okay then, I'm just going to eat them all then."
Matt came over to the table with a smile on his face as the Kim girl continued to feast on her fries. She wondered why Jeremy cared about Vicki and Tyler and simply figured it was her nosy side jumping out. Maybe it was even another side of her she had yet to experience.
"She's my sister, and I love her but, sometimes she can really make you work for it." Matt said jokingly, referring to the pair he was looking at.
He knew the boy had a crush on his sister, and he also knew that his sister was hung up on Tyler.
"It looks pretty easy." Jeremy answered before getting up and walking away angrily.
"He's really moody." Suki commented with a smile on her face, a small puddle of cheese on the corner of her lip. "I wouldn't take anything he says too seriously."
"That's not good." Matt and Suki both turned to see Jeremy and Tyler pushing each other back and forth, the Lockwood seemed to be a bit of a jerk in the Kim girls eyes so she was secretly hoping Jeremy would win.
They both got up and ran over quickly, Matt grabbing Tyler and pulling him away.
"Let's go, Jeremy." Suki pulled his arm and dragged him out of the grill harshly, swiping the lingering cheese off her face with the sleeve of a hoodie she had stolen from Stefan.
"What did you do that for!?" he questioned angrily, throwing his hands up into the air.
"A thank you would be nice, you could've gotten trouble for a girl who clearly does not care about you." The Kim girl responded, shaking her head lightly. "I was just trying to help."
"Oh, and you do?" Jeremy rolled his eyes, not letting the girl respond as he walked to the car.
"I'm just saying she's not worth it, no person is." Suki explained to him as the boy stopped at the car, her following closely behind.
"Whatever, just take me home." The Gilbert boy responded with a sigh.
... there went a perfectly good night.
