Flashback 3 years ago

I got home from school today, nothing really changed... I was used to be a 'happy go lucky' person,  but it changed my life since my mom died.

The next day i met a girl named Emiko Haruka, she was one enthusiastic girl.

She always tried to cheer me up... I dunno why.

"Emiko..."

"hm? What is it Jay?" she replied cheerfully as always

"why do you try so hard?" i said in a dull voice

"what do you mean?" she asked confused

"you try so hard just to make me smile, which you know will never happen..."

"of coarse! I just wanna make someone happy, even if it hurts me i just wanna see them smile!"

she stood from her seat, her fist raised up to the air and her eyes filled with determination.

I always liked that about her she's always determined and never gives up.

"Thank you for trying... I guess, but don't do anything stupid while trying"

i patted her head and prepared to leave the classroom.

"see you tomorrow J!"

She waved good bye and i did the same...

As i arrived back at my house, my elder sister, Jannette greated me

"Welcome home lil bro!"

"hey sis..."

"hey, listen... It's been years that I seen you smile... Why don't you cheer up?"

"..."

I only said nothing and went straight to my room.

I could feel tears forming in my eyes, i really missed mom... Why did she leave us? Why??

I wiped away the tears and looked something under my bed.

I found what i was looking for, i stood up and sit on my bed.

I opened an old photo album filled with our pictures together.... Dammit...  I wish she didn't left us...

I didn't notice that i fell asleep while looking at our old pictures

-next morning

I got up early and dressed up hurriedly because Emiko wants to have lunch at this new café...

As i arrived at the café Emiko dragged me hurriedly inside

"Hurry up Jay!! Let's go let's go let's gooo"

"alright2x!  Jeez.... You don't have to pull me"

"sorry" she smiled apologetic

We took a seat near the stage, i noticed this café has a kareoke. Well let's just hope Emiko doesn't want to sing -_-

"What will you have today maam, sir?" the waitress asked us

"I'll have a Strawberry shortcake with a strawberry shake" Emiko replied

"I'll have a triple choco moose with iced mocha"

"alright, just please wait for 5 minutes" the waitress replied with a smile

I ruffle with my raven black hair until Emiko spoke

"So Wanna hear a joke?"

"Emiko... Please don't.. "

"Why did the pelican got kicked out of the restaurant?"

"i don't wanna hear it"

"It's because he has a very large BILL"

"wanna hear a joke about paper?"

"Shut up"

"Nah, i knew it you would find it TEARebble! Pffttt hahaha"

"knock knock"

"who's there?"

"Juno"

"Juno who?"

"Juno anymore than bad jokes"

"haha, ok.. That was terrible for your first joke" Emiko remarked

After we finished our food, we were about to leave until the guy on the stage announced.

"Today we're going to choose random people to sing up here annndddd the lucky duo who gets to sing issss the people in table 4!"

"Ohhh Jay that's uss!!! " she said enthusiastically

"uh,  you know i hate to sing Emiko.. "

She started to drag me towards the stage and she chose the for us to sing.

"Emiko... " i just stared at her orange fiery eyes and giving her the 'i don't want to do this look'

"come on Jay! It's going to be fine! You won't die or anything!"

I sighed in defeat,  and the song started

We left the café and we both started to head home

"YOU DIDN'T TELL ME THAT YOU HAVE A GREAT VOICE"

"Umm... Thanks..." I could feel my face getting hotter

"Anyway thank you for today.... I had fun i guess"

i leaned over to her face and gave her a kiss on the cheek

"Bye..."

few months passed by and we finally graduated

Emiko wanted to hangout with me today before going on her vacation and i agreed

We met at the mall and all we did was to have fun liked we used to..

At the end of the day we decided to stop by at the Sakura tree, where we first met.

" remember how we first met?" Emiko smiled at the memory

"Yea..."

"Good times right?"

"I'll miss you... And thank you for being my friend Emiko"

I hugged her

"I'll miss you too.."

We started head back home, and as we're about to leave...

"JAY WATCH OUT!"

"Huh?----"

A shot from a gun was heard

Instead of me getting hit

Emiko took the bullet for me

"Emiko! Why?! Why would you do that?!"

"i-i wanted you to be safe... I wanna s... S-see you smile.... D-don't wor-ry... S-smile F--for m-me.... " she smiled

"n-no... Emiko..  Please... Noo..."
I hugged her body tight

Emiko died that night, it turns out that guy who killed her was her half brother.

I never stopped crying that night.

I arrived at Emiko's grave i gave her a visit since it's a really special day.... The day when we first met.

"Hey Emiko... It's been a while huh... I missed you... And thank you"  I smiled

I smiled for the first time...

"that's the only thing that i wanted to see"

"huh?"
i spun in circles to see who spoke

Until a flash of light appeared on Emiko's grave

"it's about time you smiled"

"Emiko???"

"hey jay, it's been a while huh?"

" I miss you! "

"i miss you too"
She hugged me

"don't be a cry baby"

"don't leave... "

"heh... Sorry... I need to go... "

"Thank you.... Goodbye..."

The light faded away, Emiko was gone... Even if she's not here... I know She'll always be watching me... Thank you Emiko.
