The pair walked through the streets of Seoul for a while. After the first fifteen minutes, Felix began wondering if Changbin really knew where he was going, but after a little while longer, the two stopped in front of an old store. Changbin looked at the building, then to Felix, then back to the building before he walked up to the front door and attempted to open them.
"Damn.." Changbin cursed under his breath. He looked around as if he was trying to find something. It took him a minute, but he eventually found the small alleyway entrance that he was looking for. He grabbed Felix's hand and pulled him down the alley, eyes constantly scanning the side of the old store.
"What are you even looking for?" Felix asked, kind of scared of being in the dark alley. Changbin just ignored his question and continued walking, his eyes straining to see what he was looking for in the dark.
After another minute or two, Changbin came to a stop. He let go of Felix's hand and walked towards yet another door. This time, however, when he tried to open it, it actually opened. There was smile on Changbin's face as he turned to Felix. He motioned for him to follow, but Felix hesitated. "Do you trust me?" Changbin asked as he held out his hand. Felix looked at it, then back at Changbin before he nodded and slowly took the latter's hand.
Changbin led Felix through what seemed to have been an old restaurant. Felix was totally lost at this point and had no idea what they were even doing there. Eventually, Changbin led them through a doorway and down a flight of stairs. Once they were at the bottom, Changbin turned and flipped a switch on the wall. It took a second, but several lights flickered to life, illuminating the room. Felix was so confused and shocked that he didn't even feel Changbin let go of his hand and walk away towards what looked like a stage, or at least what was left of one.
Felix took in the room. It wasn't huge, but it definitely wasn't small. There was enough room for about a dozen small tables and a bar then of course the stage. He was more confused as to why there was a restaurant under another restaurant. "What is this?" He asked as he started walking towards the stage, looking at everything as he walked past.
"This is the legendary Verse 2, or at least what's left of it," Changbin said with a loud voice as he climbed onto the stage. "The Restaurant above this was named JJ Project. The two owners ran both the restaurant and Verse 2, splitting it up. One of them ran the restaurant while the other ran this little club, I guess you could call it, and then they switched on the weekends." Changbin was walking around the stage with a smile filled with nostalgia spread across his face.
Felix just watched as his friend relived his memories. "How do you even know about this place?" He asked genuinely curious. Changbin stopped walking around the rundown stage and walked to the edge and sat down, letting his legs dangle off the edge.
"Well, during my last couple years of middle school, I got super into hip-hop and rap, so I would usually walk around watching busking events. Eventually, I started writing my own lyrics. One night, I was walking around, trying to find another performance to watch, and I stumbled across this place. One of the owners, the one who ran Verse 2 during the week, kind of took me under his wing and taught me how to produce music. Long story short, I started rapping here. JB said that I could preform here whenever I felt like it, so I did. Friday and Saturday were Competition days, anyone that wanted to could come up and challenge whoever they wanted to, and whoever won, got a decent amount of cash out of it." Changbin let out a content sigh as he reminisced in the past, and Felix couldn't help but admire how beautiful and pleased he looked. "I heard some people still come here to perform, but it's not nearly as lively as it was a few years ago." Changbin hoped off the stage and was standing beside Felix.
"What happened to it?" he asked.
"I'm not really sure. After Jisung introduced me to Chan and we started our little thing we got going, I didn't come here all too often. I'm still in contact with the two of them, as a matter of fact I just went out with Jinyoung not too long ago, but I never really asked about it and they never really explained," Changbin explained as he started walking back to the stairs.
Felix smiled slightly as he followed him. "Where are we going now?"
Changbin looked over his shoulder and shrugged. "Wherever our feet take us I guess."
The two walked all over Seoul, well, at least it felt like they did. They stayed relatively close to the hospital, making sure that they were either able to see the actual building, or at least signs that point them in the direction of it. They wandered in and out of stores with no intention of buying anything. They just wanted to look at the items, maybe try a few things on.
"Well, what do you think?" Changbin asked as he spun around dramatically, sporting the stupidest face possible. Felix burst into laughter at the sight in front of him. Changbin was dressed in a pair of overalls with some sort of blouse pulled over his shirt that he was already wearing. To top it off, he had on a a bright green and pink bucket hat and sandals. The entire situation was too much for Felix to handle.
"Just, take that off before I pass out!" He managed to croak out between laughs. Changbin chuckled and slide out of the ridiculous outfit. After his little escapade, the two decided that they were hungry again and stopped at a food cart and got some churros. Night life in Seoul was just like it was during the day, the only actual difference was that the people weren't just a bunch of business men trying to rush to their next meeting. Changbin didn't know how Felix felt about it, but he wouldn't mind spending another night walking around Seoul.
The two sat down on a bench by the river and ate their churros in comfortable silence. After a while, Felix looked at Changbin who was too preoccupied by his churros to notice. He played with the churro in his hand before he cleared his throat. "So why did you run away?" Felix's voice was soft. The silence shifted from comfortable to tense in a matter of seconds.
Changbin let out a sigh and set his churro down on the bench beside him. "I really don't know... Looking back, it wasn't anything different than what I'm used to. Every time they get back from one of their trips, it's the exact same conversation. It's almost like we're robots, programmed to say, do and feel the exact same things every time. Except this time, something was different, but I still don't understand what it was." Felix had set his churro down as well, giving Changbin 100% of his attention. "I just hate being told what to do with my life. I hate being told that I'm a failure and that my dream is childish. As much as I hate it though, I can usually handle my emotions, but for some reason, I just couldn't this time."
Felix could hear how he held back the emotions from escaping in his words. His face softened and he put a hand on Changbin's thigh. "Changbin, you're a human being, not a robot. You feel things. No matter how hard you try to suppress it, you still have your breaking point. Everyone does, and there isn't anything wrong with that." Felix said with a comforting smile. Changbin looked up at him, meeting his eyes. In that moment, Changbin felt like he could stare into Felix's eyes forever. The light from the city casted a light onto Felix and it illuminated him in a way that made him all the more beautiful to Changbin. Everything seemed to wash away in that moment. Nothing else seemed to matter to him except for Felix. Changbin raised a hand to Felix's cheek, causing him to flinch slightly at first, but he relaxed after a moment. Felix's smile was replaced with a confused expression, his brows knitted almost as if he was worried.
"You know," Changbin spoke in a hushed voice as he leaned in slowly, eyes moving between Felix's own and his lips. "I'm not someone who usually likes to show emotion."
Felix's eyes darted frantically around Changbin's face as he leaned in, looking for any sort of emotion. His brain kept telling him to back away, but his body had other ideas. Felix remained frozen on the bench with Changbin inches away from him. "But?" Felix whispered, his eyes meeting with Changbin's.
"But tonight seems to be the exception." Changbin said and met Felix's lips with his. The kiss was simple and soft, but filled with all kinds of emotions. Sadness, happiness, desperation, loneliness. A tear fell down Felix's cheek as the two shared their kiss. Felix could feel every emotion Changbin had, almost as if the kiss had been more than just a physical interaction between the two.
The kiss didn't last long, with Changbin pulling away first. He remained close enough to Felix that he could feel the latter's slow breathing brush past. When Felix's eyes fluttered open, the expression on Changbin's face worried him.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that," Changbin said as he picked up his trash and stood up from the bench. Felix grabbed his wrist, pulling slightly on it.
"Wait, why are you sorry?" He asked. Changbin just gave a soft smile.
"You should probably get back to Olivia. She's probably worried sick about you by now," He gently pulled Felix's hand off of his wrist. "Thanks for tonight though, I had fun."
Felix watched in confusion as Changbin began walking away. Felix got up from the bench and ran after him, grabbing his shoulder and spinning him around so that he was facing him. "What just happened? Where are you going to go, Changbin? Just come back to the hospital with me, they have beds there," he pleaded with the other, but it was to no avail.
Changbin shook Felix's hand off and gave another soft smile. "I'll see you in school, yeah?" and he turned and walked away, leaving Felix alone and confused by everything that just happened.
