"Did you see X's new post?"
"Oh my gosh yeah! He's so mysterious and deep."
"He really is! He's like an enigma or something..."
Changbin rolled his eyes as he listened to his friends blabber about the latest blog post. He just wanted to get through the lunch line without having to hear about 'X'.
"Can you guys pipe down for one minute while I get my daily dog food? I mean, first off, it's just some kid who has nothing better to do with their life than to make edgy posts on the school's blog," Changbin snarked as he punched his school code into the number pad to pay for his meal. He moved off to the side to let the other two punch their codes in then continued his tangent as the trio walked to their usual lunch table.
"Second, none of you know who it is, so how can you be sure it's a dude? It could be a girl for all we know. Or better yet, a fucking hamster or some shit." The three sat down at the semi filled table but continued their conversation, ignoring the greetings they got from the others at the table.
"Just because someone seems to be out-emoing you doesn't mean you get to get all angry and shit at us for talking about it," Hyunjin smirked and elbowed Changbin in the arm. Changbin just rolled his eyes and picked up his sandwich and started eating it.
"Aw, is our Binnie upset because X's post got more likes than his?" Minho chimed in from across the table. Changbin, being the mature highschool student he was, threw what was left of his sandwich at the other.
Changbin smirked at Minho, who flashed him a finger, and continued picking at the food on his plate. "What's so interesting about this 'X' person anyway?" Changbin's question was void of any sincerity save for the very small amount the stemmed from his natural curiosity.
Several voices erupted into laughter at Changbin's question.
"You're kidding right? Do you not follow him or anything?" Seungmin asked once he had calmed his laughter a bit.
Changbin rolled his eyes. "Yes, I follow him. But I just don't understand why quoting authors and posting random pictures is so interesting?"
All at once, the six other people sitting at the table with Changbin let out a sigh. Jisung placed a hand on Changbin's shoulder, and as much as Changbin tried to pry it off, Jisung kept his grip.
"Oh our precious Binnie-"
"Yah, stop calling me that! You all know I hate that name.."
"As I was saying... Our precious Changbin. It's not the quotes or the pictures that make X so interesting. It's the fact that he has never given a single clue to lead anyone to who he actually is. The pictures and quotes add to his personality and give people an idea of what he's like, but it's the thrill of not knowing who it is that makes X so interesting."
Changbin blinked a couple times at Jisung before he pulled his hand off of his shoulder.
"What's even more interesting about him though," Seungmin started, "Is that X only started this year. He wasn't around last year or the year before that."
"Oh yeah! Some people were saying that they think it's that new kid that's always in the dance room. That's literally the only place I ever see that kid," Chan threw in his two cents.
Changbin, already done with his lunch, moved to get up from the table but was stopped when Jisung grabbed his wrist.
"Yah, where are you going? We're going to try and figure out who X is! Come one, you gotta stay for that!"
Changbin laughed and shook Jisung's hand from his wrist. "Yeah, no I'd rather spend my time alone in a bathroom stall listening to my music than sitting here listening to you guys be gay as fuck for some person you don't even know." And Changbin turned, threw his trash away, and head in the opposite direction of the cafeteria.
Since it was lunch, the halls were pretty empty, which Changbin liked. It wasn't that he didn't like people, which, for the most part, he didn't, but it was more that he enjoyed being alone. It gave him space to think and just relax. There was one place that Changbin could relax the best.
The roof top.
It wasn't that cliche reason, it being 'romantic' but 'edgy' since the rooftop is supposed to be off limits to students. For Changbin, he liked the roof because he knew that one slip up and he'd be a goner. For him, it kind of put life into perspective. Walk along the edge, but just don't cross it. If you cross it, you don't know how far you'll fall.
The air smelled so much cleaner to Changbin up top than it down on the ground. A smile made it's way across his face as he made his way across the roof to the edge of the building. Once at the edge, Changbin sat down and let his legs dangle off the edge. He just sat there, taking in the sight around him.
A few minutes pass before a voice startled Changbin.
"Didn't expect to see another person up here." The voice was rather deep and it surprised Changbin. He turned his head to see a guy, who looked to be his age, standing next to him. His hands were in the pocket of his hoodie and he was wearing a black beanie. He was sure, but the kid looked familiar to Changbin. He just couldn't place where he had seen him before.
"Mind if I sit?" The kid asked as he turned his head to look at Changbin. Changbin nodded and watched as the other sat down next to him. "I'm Felix by the way," Felix held out his hand to Changbin, he slowly took it and shook it.
"Changbin."
"Well, nice to meet you Changbin." Felix smiled and drew his hand back, placing back into his hoodie pocket. The two then fell silent, staying that way for a while until Changbin realized why Felix was so familiar.
"Wait, are you the new third year from Australia?" Changbin asked suddenly and turned to Felix. The other was surprised for a moment a bright smile replaced the shocked expression in his face.
"Yep, sure am!" Changbin couldn't help but smile slightly at the kid's seemingly bright personality. "What year are you, if you don't mind me asking?" Felix asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Ah, I'm a third year as well." Changbin smiled as he responded.
"Oh, really? How come I've never seen you before then?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe you weren't looking hard enough?" Changbin's last question was more on the rhetorical side, but Felix answered anyway.
"Well, maybe... Maybe I'll do that more from now on." Felix smiled at Changbin who let out a short laugh. The sound of a muffled ringtone coming from Changbin's pocket broke the not so awkward silence the two found themselves in. When Changbin pulled out his phone, he rolled his eyes at the caller ID.
He hit the green button and held the phone up to his ears. "What do you want Woojin?"
"Yah, Minho stole Jisung's shoe and Chan took Jeongin's churro!" Changbin rolled his eyes at the flustered voice on the other end of the call. He mouthed a sorry to Felix and stood up from where he was sitting to excuse himself, turning his back to Felix.
"Okay, what exactly do you want me to do about that? Literally, three of you are older than me..."
"Yah yah yah! Let go of me! I'm not apart of this! Changbin, I gotta go! Just please hurry and come back down here!" Woojin shouted into the phone before he hung up. Changbin let out a loud and annoyed sigh before sliding the phone back into his pocket.
"Sorry about that Fe-" Changbin started to apologise as he turned around to back to his new aquaintance, but stopped when he saw that he was no longer there. "What the?" Changbin asked himself as he looked around the empty roof.
Did I really just imagine all of that?
