Chapter 5
The night was sleepless just like the others and I was crazy tired the next morning. But El was coming today. It was so exciting and I couldn't wait.
I practically jumped out of bed when my alarm clock went off and hurriedly got ready. I had to go pick her up in a little while and I didn't want to keep her waiting.
I made myself a quick breakfast and scarfed it down, bouncing with excitement. My phone buzzed and I looked down at it. It was El telling me her plane had just landed. I replied telling her I'd be there in ten.
I rinsed off my plate, took a gulp of water and grabbed me keys off the hook. I was just about to pull the door open when my phone buzzed again. I glanced at it and my heart stopped.
I'm coming for you ~Jason
I dropped my phone in shock and sank to the floor. No, no, he couldn't be coming. Not again. My throat was tightening and my breaths came faster. I gasped for air and stood up unsteadily, using the counter for balance.
I stumbled to the stairs one thought in mind my inhaler. I feebly continued up the stairs tears streaming down my face. I was getting weaker by the second due to lack of oxygen, but I knew I had to make it up those stairs.
I stumbled and fell on my stomach. The stairs seemed to stretch on forever, a tunnel that was never ending. My vision was blurring and my last thought was who's going to pick up Eleanor? Before everything faded to black.
Eleanor's P.O.V.
I worriedly tapped my foot as I sat on a bench outside the airport. Jess had texted me fifteen almost twenty minutes ago saying she was on her way. I had a bad feeling and decided to wave down a taxi.
I climbed in, told them the address, and sat there. I wished they would go faster. I didn't know what was wrong, if anything, but I know Jess. She wouldn't be late if she could help it. Plus the traffic was at a minimum right now so that certainly wasn't the problem.
I paid the driver and hopped out practically sprinting to the door. I fumbled with my key and finally got it in the damn hole. I pushed it open not knowing what to expect. All seemed normal which was good, I looked down and saw her phone cracked on the ground.
I picked it up a puzzled look on my face, why would she leave it here? And why was it broken?
I stepped around the corner and peered up the stairs. I gasped Jess was laying halfway up them clearly unconscious. I ran up and dragged her down them to the couch.
She was barely breathing and my heart was racing with panic. I sprinted upstairs and tore apart her room looking for her inhaler. I finally found it nestled away in a corner of her dresser and with a sigh of relief started back down the stairs.
She was still out and her breathing had stopped completely. I quickly, hands shaking, put the inhaler in her mouth hoping it would work.
Her chest stayed still and I threw the inhaler to the side and pulled out my phone. I quickly dialed 999 and put it on speaker. I started CPR on her hoping she was going to be okay.
Tears were streaming down my face. She had to be okay. I couldn't lose her neither could Niall. I managed to tell the operator what the emergency was and she said an ambulance was on its way. I continued CPR whispering to myself that I couldn't stop. That her life depended on it. Though my arms started aching I kept on hoping she would breathe.
I don't know how long it was before the ambulance got there, but it felt like forever. I heard them open the door but was only half aware as they pulled me away and put her in the ambulance. I was so scared for her. Maybe what I did wasn't enough, what if she didn't make it? I would be crushed.
"Excuse me Ma'am ." A voice said resting a hand on my shoulder." Are you okay?"
I looked at the person talking and nodded. He looked unconvinced but shrugged and walked away. I sank onto the couch and breathed deeply a few times to calm my racing heart.
I grabbed my phone knowing I had to call the boys. I called Niall since it was his girlfriend. He picked up right away and answered with a hello.
"Did you get there all right?" He asked cheerfully.
"Y-yeah." I sniffed and tried to keep it together.
"Is everything okay?" He asked a hint of concern evident.
"No. It's Jess. W-when she didn't come to pick me up I g-got a taxi. And, and when I came inside. She, she was laying on the floor unconscious. I don't know what happened. She's in an ambulance right now on her way to the hospital." A few more tears leaked out as I thought of losing her.
"Oh my god. Oh my god. I'll tell Simon, gosh I wish I could be there. Maybe he can let me miss one show." He sounded heartbroken.
"O-okay. I'll keep you posted."
"Okay. Thank you El. I hope she's okay." He said sorrowfully.
"Me to." I hung up and clutched the phone to my chest. She better be okay. I went to the doorway and picked up her cracked phone. The screen had gone blank, but I was curious as to what had happened. Why her phone was here when she was halfway upstairs.
I shrugged it off and grabbed the keys to the car. I jumped in and drove quickly to the hospital. I went to the receptionist who asked me for a name.
"Jessica Della." I said trying to keep my voice steady.
"I'm sorry hon, she isn't being allowed visitors until tomorrow." She said sympathetically, obviously seeing the worry written on my face.
"It's fine. Do you know if she's okay?"
"I don't, but I can get her doctor down here in a few minutes, you wait here. Are you her sister? Only family is to be updated this soon." She smiled at me warmly.
"Yes I'm her sister, I'll be waiting, and thank you." I smiled and sat down in one of the waiting chairs. What a stupid rule, it was one I didn't even feel bad about breaking.
I tapped my foot impatiently. It seemed hours before I heard someone walk into the waiting room. My head snapped up and met the eyes of a doctor, hopefully Jess'.
"Here for Jessica Della?" He asked.
"Yes." I replied.
"Okay well she's stable right now so no worries about that." I breathed a sigh of relief as soon as he said it, she was okay. "We think that she had a panic attack made worse by her asthma which caused her lungs to be closed off completely. Your CPR saved her life, you should be proud of yourself." He patted my shoulder and gave me a smile before walking away. "I'll let you know if anything changes." He left the room leaving an ecstatic me.
I quickly called Niall hoping he would answer. He did answer, right away in fact.
"Is she all right?" Were the first words from his mouth, understandably so.
"Yes, thank god she's okay." He immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good. I'm going to be there tomorrow to see her then I'll have to leave again the following day. Have you gotten to see her yet?" He asked.
"No, not till tomorrow." I said a hint of sadness evident. I didn't want her waking up all alone. But I guess this was the way it had to be.
