Chapter One ; THE DREAM

     ONE YEAR seemed like an eternity on the Ark. That's how long its been since Kai last saw Jasper and Monty. He use to look out for them like they were his little brothers. Guilty ate at him everyday. But he wasn't the only one feeling the guilt.

     Bellamy blamed himself for breaking his family up. It happened a month later. There was a masquerade dance for teenagers and Bellamy thought it would be perfect for Octavia to get out. Kai had helped get her ready to blend in with the others. Unfortunately it didn't work. Octavia was caught, Bellamy was demoted to a janitor, and their mother was floated. Things haven't been the same since.

     Kai and Bellamy felt themselves drift apart in some way. The two didn't get to hang out as much. Bellamy was always being watched constantly and ever since Kai completed his training he worked late hours. But when they did saw each other they made the most of it.

     At this point Kai was getting ready for work. His mother had already left leaving the place quiet. It was peaceful and helped relax the male before another stressful day. But the silence only lasted so long. There was a knock at the door.

     Upon opening the door a friend of Kai's, Jake Dillion, stood already in his guards uniform. Jake seemed to be nervous, a small bag hung over his shoulder.

     "We need to talk quick Kai."

     Letting himself nod Kai let Jake in. He watched as his blonde friend rushed in and place the bag on the coffee table in the middle of the room.

     "What's in the bag?" Kai asked

     "An extra guard uniform for you," Jake said as he paced.

     "Uh why?" Kai started getting a bad feeling in his gut. He wasn't going to like the answer he was gonna get.

     "Look I was informed today that we have to gather all the delinquents and take them to some drop ship. I think the Council is shipping them to Earth. They didn't explain much. I know you have some friends that where arrested," Jake stated when he faced Kai.

     "Wait what? Why would they do that?" Kai was just full of questions.

     "My best guess is that they want to get back to Earth sooner," Jake wasn't entirely sure as to why they would do such a thing. He just knew that Kai needed to know.

     "When does this happen?"

     "We start evaluating them in 10 minutes. You need to be on that drop ship in 30 minutes if you plan on going with them. That's what the uniform is for. I have to go but good luck Kai," Jake gave his shoulder a slight squeeze for reinsurance before he left.

     Could he really do this? Kai wasn't sure if it was a smart idea but he couldn't just let if friends be killed even though it could possibly lead to his own death. It was hard to decide. There was Jasper and Monty, his friend Miller, there was even Murphy who Kai became good friends with when he was younger right before he lost his father. Then there was Octavia. She didn't have any friends, she would be all alone. Kai had to go. Bellamy popped up in the boys head. Should he tell him? Should he let him tag along?

     No that's a stupid idea. Bellamy could get into more trouble plus you will feel better knowing he was safe on the Ark. Kai didn't think much more on the matter. It was better for Bellamy to stay. He would be safe, he wouldn't get hurt or worse, killed.

It didn't take long for Kai to change and clean up. His hair was done nicely and his face shaved. He looked as if he was actually apart of the guard.

Kai left a letter for his mother telling her that he would be okay and that they would meet again one day. At least he hoped so.

Before he left the comfort of his home completely he gave it one last good look. He most likely won't be back ever. Kai shut the door, there was no going back now.

Kai had about 10 minutes before he needed to be on the drop ship. It wasn't that far from farm station. When he got there there was still a good amount of teens left to be placed in the ship.

Off to the side stood Marcus Kane and Abigail Griffin. Kai noted to really keep his head down. The last thing he needed was Abby to recognize him from work. He would be floated for sure.

Kai went to move forward from
his position but stopped when another guard walked by and grabbed a girl from the line. He to kept his head down and took her to the drop ship. Kai didn't miss the way the guard's hair was done. Just like how Bellamy use to do.

"That son of a bitch," Kai whispered

Kai had to amit it to Bellamy that his was good at getting on the drop ship without being noticed but he was gonna kick his ass when they got to the ground. So Kai planned of following his friends lead and kept his head down while he grabbed ahold of the delinquent next in line to make it look like he was fighting to get away. Which he was in a sense since Kai had grabbed him.

Once he was on safely he send the kid up to a higher level to be seated. Kai stayed on the bottom floor and hid behind a few boxes of supplies till they where done. If he only knew Bellamy was hiding a few feet away on the other side of the supplies.

Soon the door to the drop ship began to close. There happened to be no delinquents on the first floor. To Kai's luck there was also seats to secure himself in. Both him and Bellamy got out of there hiding spots at the same time only to scare each other.

"Ah shit Bells! What the hell do you want to give me a heart attack?" Kai said looking down at the boy in front of him. Bellamy happened to be a few inches smaller then him.

     "Kai?! What the hell are you doing here?!" Bellamy exclaimed. He didn't want Kai there. He too thought about telling his best friend when he found out but decided not to in hopes of keeping him safe. Kai just had to throw it back in his face.

     "You didn't think I'd let you have all the fun, did you?" Kai asked winking at Bellamy before going over and buckling himself in.

     "You better sit down babe, were gonna take off any second."

     Bellamy took a seat next to Kai and buckled himself in. "So sunshine do you plan on telling me how you knew about this?"

"Dillion came to me. You?" Kai asked looking at Bellamy.

"Um... Dillion came to me to." Bellamy was a bit hesitant with his answer. Kai knew but let it slide for now.

"I guess neither of us was planning on telling the other," Kai said

"No I wanted to keep you safe."

"So did I."

Before either boy could get anymore sentimental the drop ship detached from the Ark. The screams from the delinquents where loud while the whole ship shooked. Kai felt nauseous and scared. Falling wasn't his favorite this.

     Bellamy took Kai's hand in his after seeing the distressed in the boy's face. Kai laced their fingers together as Bellamy rubbed soothing circles in the back of his hand. It was a kind gesture that they both did to comfort one another. 

     Kai found himself relaxing at Bellamy's touch. When he looked at their hands he couldn't help but feel a slight blush. Bellamy watched with a small smile on his face.

     "You'll be alright sunshine," Bellamy said

"Is that like my new nickname or something now? Sunshine?" Kai asked as he laid his head on Bellamy's shoulder.

"Yeah it suits you. Why you don't like it?" Bellamy asked

"No I do. Now I just need a cute nickname for you then we will be like what kids use to say back in the twenty first century, 'goals'," Kai chuckled

Bellamy rolled his eyes. It was never anything new with Kai and his fascination with things from before the nuclear war.

The screaming from the delinquents stopped and was replaced with loud chatter. It was annoying Kai. "Can't those damn kids keep quiet for five minutes?"

"You can't even keep quiet for five minutes," Bellamy said

"Shut up."

"Nope."

"Bellamy."

"Sunshine."

Kai looked up at Bellamy seeing he was already looking back at him. They gave each other a challenging look. Neither noticed how close they really were till Kai found himself looking at Bellamy's lips for a second or two. Bellamy's cheeks became a light pink.

"Your blushing," Kai said softly

"Your ruining the moment," Bellamy said softly

"I always do darling," Kai winked

Bellamy laughed slightly causing Kai to smile. They were still close but Kai settled his head back on Bellamy's shoulder. It was again peaceful, till the drop ship broke through the atmosphere and things went to shit fast.

It didn't take long for them to land. After a few seconds both boys unbuckled and went to the door of the drop ship. The delinquents started coming down crowding around the door.

     "Hey everyone! Just stay back! We will be out soon enough!" Kai yelled

     "Stop! The air could be toxic," a blonde girl said as she pushed her way to the front of the crowd. Kai recognized her as Clarke Griffin, Abby's daughter.

     "If the air is toxic we're all dead anyway," Bellamy said

     "Bellamy? Kai?"

     Kai smiled when he saw Octavia making her way to the front. First she pulled Kai into an embrace just to smite Bellamy. The she turned to hug her brother.

     "That's the girl they hid under the floor." Kai glared at the teenagers around them looking for the boy who was talking about Octavia.

     "My God, look how big you are," Bellamy smiled looking at his sister.

     Octavia smiled back before she noticed what her brother and friend where wearing. "What the hell are you two wearing, a guard's uniform?" The words were full of disgust and hatred.

     "We borrowed them to get on the ship," Kai said

     "Yeah someone had to keep an eye on you," Bellamy laughed

     "Where's your wristbands?" Clarke asked ruining the reunion the three where having.

     "Do you mind? I haven't seen my brother or my best friend in a year," Octavia snapped giving Clarke a glare.

     "No one has a brother."

    "That's Octavia Blake, the girl they found hidden in the floor."

     Octavia got pissed at the way everyone talked about her like she wasn't even there. She went to hit someone but Bellamy grabbed ahold of her.

     "Hey! Why don't all of you mind your own damn business and shut the hell up!" Kai's voice was loud over the talk of the delinquents. Everyone grew silence, some where even scared by the sudden dominance held in Kai's voice, a voice of a leader.

     "Let's give them something else to remember you by," Bellamy said looking at Octavia after calming her.

     "Yeah? Like what?"

     "Like being the first person on the ground in a hundred years." Octavia smiled.

     Kai put his hands on the lever and pulled down. The door to the drop ship opened slowly. A bright white light cause everyone to shield their eyes till they got use to the new light. Everyone had been so use to the dim light from the Ark.

     Earth was simply breathtaking to the newcomers. It was better then the descriptions and the pictures they where given on the Ark. There where so many bright vibrant colors. Green was the main color. It cause Kai to fall in love with that color even more. It was the dream that his mother always talked about. He wished she was here to see it with him.

     Octavia took a big breath before she slowly walked down the ramp to the ground. Everyone watch anxiously. The Blake girl stopped at the edge of the ramp and looked down at the ground. Slowly Octavia put one foot on the ground. Then both feet. Smiling she looked up and threw both hands in the air.

     "WE'RE BACK, BITCHES!"
